Connectors for Space Applications
Description
A new kind of low weight, high power PSM-connector for
space application. This PSM-connector combines the low
weight characteristics of the SMA-, and the high power
capability of the TNC-connector.
The standard SMA connector is used worldwide in a variety
of applications in large quantities. For space applications,
however, this type of connector is severely limited in microwave
CW power capability. This is due to the design of the
connector that is not optimized for corona, multipaction and
simple overheating effects. For any application with 10 W or
more CW power space grade TNC connectors have to be
used that are much larger and heavier and, in a lot of cases,
oversized for the application.
