Programme information
The aim of this programme is to prepare students with the knowledge and
practical skills for employment and apprenticeship in the electro-technology
industry. This programme includes the National Certificate in Electrical
Engineering (Level 2) and teaches a high level of practical wiring skills.
In this programme you will learn about:
>> Safe work practice for electricians
>> Career opportunities within the electro technology industry now and in
the future
>> Practical hand skills. You will learn tricks of the trade in workshops. You
will discover best practice for the use of hand tools, power tools and test
instruments
>> What employers' expectations are by participating in practical team
exercises
>> Modern electrical practice by completing practical projects in the
workshop
>> Electrical theory
>> The products and equipment of the trade
>> Electrical appliances
>> Basic introduction to electronics
>> 12v, 230v, 415v and control circuit wiring
>> An introduction to industry regulations and quality control measures

Graduates gain the Certificate in Electrical Engineering and also
gain the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 2)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Domestic students: 10 credits NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10
credits NCEA Level 1 numeracy or equivalent
Youth Guarantee: Youth Guarantee entry criteria applies
International students: IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5.0)
