This document evaluates L-PRO 4000's IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging capabilities, applicable to several communication-aided protection (Trip/Block) schemes, such as Permissive Over-Reaching Transfer Trip (POTT), a combination of POTT with Weak Infeed (WI), Directional Comparison Blocking (DCB) and Permissive Under-Reaching Transfer Trip (PUTT). RFL IMUX 2000 multiplexers with standard LAN bridge adapters (MA-427 units) were used as the interfacing device, and testing was carried out with all the other standard functionalities (protection, recording etc.) enabled on the L-PRO 4000 relays. the 61850 GOOSE messages between these relays was delayed by 4-6 ms. Using the RFL IMUX 2000 multiplexers with the standard communication (just serial inputs and outputs of the relays) results in near zero delay in communication transfer time. However, output contact operation and digital input hardware delays in the relays can add 6-8 ms (3-4 ms per relay) to the total time delay between relays. This app note will be useful to many users. This study concludes: Using point-to-point serial connections between relays with RFL IMUX multiplexers operating at a 1536 Kbps bandwidth results in a 61850 GOOSE message taking an additional 2-4 ms transfer time. When the RFL IMUX 2000 multiplexers were loaded with traffic in addition to a relay to relay line protection application, 4 VOL 33 FEB 2013 - MAR 2013 ERL NEWSLETTER ERL Trains HVPNL Engineers on Substation Automation ERL organised a comprehensive in-depth onsite training program on "IEC 61850 based Substation Automation Systems(SAS)" for the benefit of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (HVPNL) employees. The entire training program was handled by Mr. Sanjay Jangra, Dy. Manager-Service, Northern Region at their customer premises, from 4th March to 8th March, 2013. approach. The feedback received from the management was quite positive and The main objective of this training program was to train the HVPNL employees to handle independently the single point control at local level and as well as remote operations through SLDC of SAS. Training included the various protection schemes in power system for the benefit of conventional substations as well as SAS. There were large number of HVPNL employees from operators to engineers level actively participated in the training program. This was well received by the participants and they were very happy with our professional encouraging. Congrats to Northern Region for arranging such a wonderful training. program ERL’s 19" Rack Type CRP Shell Passes IP 55 Test at CPRI Control & Relay Panel (CRP) is used in power generation, sub-stations and industries for both indoor and outdoor application. Most of these panel shells are fabricated at ERL Harohalli and the final assembly of all CRP is done at ERL Hosur unit. Rack Type CRP come with adjustable racks. This offers a great deal of flexibility for assembly of relays, meters and lamps at different positions. There is a great demand for these products from customers. The recent orders received by Hosur unit is for 60% of this type of panels out of the total CRP orders. Now we are proud to announce that we started manufacturing 19" Rack Type CRP Shell (welded type) at our Harohalli factory situated near 5 VOL 33 FEB 2013 - MAR 2013 ERL NEWSLETTER Bangalore. The product has successfully passed the IP 55 test. This test was conducted and certified by Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Bangalore on 2nd April 2013. As defined in the international standard IEC 60529, the IP 55 Test classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures. The standard aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as waterproof. IP means Insulation Protection. First Digit: 5 -Dust protected - Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact. Second Digit: 5 -Water jets -Water projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.Test duration: at least 3 minutes. Water volume: 12.5 litres per minute. Pressure: 30 kN/m2² at distance of 3m. There were several stringent tests conducted at CPRI. This included subjecting the panel to IP5X Dust & IPX5 water tests including meggor & 2 kV/1min before and after tests. The test was conducted in response to customer demands for panel protection. This is carried out on panels produced through the normal production process in the shop floor. We can produce 8 panels per shift with this existing setup. This is the first time that an IP test of a Control and Relay Panel has been done for a product which was exclusively designed and manufactured in ERL Harohalli. The volume demand is huge and the forecast is more than 200 CRP panels per month. We look forward to a jump in sales soon. We heartily congratulate the team instrumental for such initiative. Stress Management Program at ERL High levels of stress can impair productivity and bring down the quality of life. ERL is committed to helping their employees lead happy and healthy lives.
