Despite what you may have read, the sky is not falling. Actually, the sky is a lot brighter than many think. There are many reasons to believe that we may dramatically improve our record over last year. Most of our improvement will come from within. Ike Davis and Daniel Murphy are healthy and will resume their emergence as impact hitters. Ruben Tejada will continue his growth at the plate and refine his stellar defense. Lucas Duda will showcase his power and potential as a run producer. A healthy David Wright and Jason Bay will benefit from the reconfigured outfield at Citi Field. Johan Santana has been working hard to come back from shoulder surgery and is eager to prove that he can return to form. R.A. Dickey will again be a solid performer for us and we expect Mike Pelfrey to bounce back from an off year. Jonathon Niese is on his way to becoming a dominating major league pitcher and Dillon Gee, who had the second-most wins of any rookie pitcher in Major League Baseball last year, is still improving. We have taken steps to substantially upgrade our bullpen, which was our greatest weakness in 2011. The acquisitions of Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez will help us in the later innings and will lock down more wins. Terry Collins succeeded last year in changing the club’s attitude and effort, reflecting his energy and passion. Under his leadership, the team will once again play the game the right way with grit, determination and hustle. In the meantime, keep an eye on our minor league system and the continued development of top quality pitchers such as Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler and Jeurys Familia and promising position players including Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Reese Havens, Wilmer Flores and Brandon Nimmo. Thank you again for your passion for the Mets. We look forward to seeing you at Citi Field on Opening Day and throughout the season. Sincerely, Sandy Alderson General Manager 2012 SEASON TICKET HOLDER PROGRAM 1 STARTING LINE-UP Welcome to the Mets 50th Anniversary season at Citi Field!
