SASKATCHEWAN AGRICU
Leading the Way
BY NICOLE WILLIAMS
Saskatchewan’s Agri-Manufacturers
Saskatchewan’s agri-manufacturers are
well-known for their ability to produce
world-class, innovative and durable machinery and technologies for the agriculture industry. Saskatchewan manufacturers
produce a variety of agricultural equipment – including grain handling, seeding
and tillage, storage, harvesting and spraying as well as livestock management products and technologies – which are shipped
to numerous countries around the world.
According to the latest Statistics Canada
data, Saskatchewan recorded nearly $1.5
billion in manufacturing exports in February 2015, the highest monthly volume
in the province’s history. Agriculture machinery and technologies were among the
main drivers for this record growth, and
the industry is expected to continue to see
positive numbers in the future.
Part of the agri-manufacturing industry’s
success lies with the state-ofthe-art research and development facilities
that exist in the
province. Agrimanufacturers
rely on the
Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute
(PAMI) and the University of Saskatchewan
to not only handle requests for research
and development, but to also test new agricultural products so that they will either
meet or exceed international testing and
quality assurance standards.
The industry’s success is also tied to
Canada’s reputation for producing high
quality products, as well as the business
opportunities that have been generated
through the North American Free Trade
Agreement (NAFTA), and those that will
be created through the Canada-Korea
Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), the country’s first Asian free trade agreement, and
the Comprehensive Economic and Trade
Agreement with the European Union. The
new CKFTA alone – which came into effect on January 1, 2015 – is expected to
eliminate nearly 90 per cent of all duties
on Canadian exports heading to South Korea, increasing the opportunities for agrimanufacturing exports to this growing
marketplace.
The following directory features an
extensive listing of agri-manufactures in
Saskatchewan; manufacturers who are
actively exporting their products around
the world with the assistance and support
of the Saskatchewan Trade and Export
Partnership (STEP). This directory is
intended to raise awareness about
the province’s agri-manufacturing
industry and to aid potential foreign investors and buyers in their
pursuit of technologies,
products and equipment that will
support their
operations
abroad.
As part
of STEP’s
continued commitment to furthering
trade in Saskatchewan, this agri-manufacturing directory will be distributed
through the International Business Centre
at the Canada’s Farm Progress Show in Regina, Saskatchewan (June 17-19, 2015) and
Canada’s pavilion at Agritechnica 2015 in
Hanover, Germany (November 10-14).
Over 45,000 people from across Canada
and around the world attend the Canada’s
Farm Progress Show, which features more
than 800 agricultural equipment manufacturers and exhibitors every year. The
International Business Centre matches potential buyers with exhibitors at the show,
setting up business meetings and providing other necessary supports, to help
generate significant sales and networking
opportunities for Saskatchewan exporters.
Meanwhile, Agritechnica remains the
largest agricultural machinery and equipment trade fair in the world, taking place
biennially and attracting approximately
450,000 attendees from around the world.
The Government of Canada recently announced its support of STEP attending
the event to organize pavilions aimed at
showcasing Western Canada’s agricultural
prowess, including its agri-manufacturing
sector.
STEP expects that this year’s event will
generate between $50 and $100 million in
sales for Canadian agri-manufacturers over
the next two years, seeing as the 2013
event generated an estimated $72 million
in immediate sales and $50 million in additional contracts for Canadian businesses.
Vast opportunities exist within Saskatchewan’s agri-manufacturing industry, and
STEP looks forward to working with both
potential buyers and exporters to continue to grow Saskatchewan’s economy and
increase global trade opportunities for its
outstanding members.

Gatco Manufacturing is a Canadian based manufacturer of grain
ventilation and grain handling products. Designed by a farmer,
with farmers in mind, their unique ventilation designs were built
around natural principles of air movement in a storage environment. Utilizing these principles, they designed products that are
simple, practical and environmentally friendly, requiring no external power or fan base. Producing results and saving money has
been core to the engineering philosophy at Gatco Manufacturing. This same philosophy has lead to the development of grain
auger hoppers that improve unload performance, reduce lost
grain and provide flexibility for use in various auger and unload
scenarios. Gatco’s flagship product is the Grain Air Tubes, and
they are an innovative product designed to reduce grain moisture levels by 1-2% without the need of external fan power systems. Complimenting the Air Tubes is the Gatco Vent-A-Lid. This
unique design allows non-stop bin ventilation while preventing
moisture and birds from accessing the bin. Gatco Auger Hogs’s

Koenders Water Solutions Inc. has been manufacturing and distributing windmills throughout the world since 1988. Their focus is to build top quality, reasonably priced products which are
primarily used for aeration of ponds and small lakes. Koenders
Water Solutions Inc. provides continuous production of air/
oxygen to stagnant, unhealthy water – even during winter. This
perpetual oxygen circulation ensures the entire body of water
is maintained, healthy and won’t deteriorate during any season.
Aeration has been found to be the most effective natural way to
keep static water sources clean, and the free power of windmills
makes that even more appealing. Koenders Water Solutions Inc.
has a range of windmills from 12’ to 24’, available in galvanized
steel and powder coated, with single and double diaphragm
models. They function in wind speeds as low as 3 mph and will
turn out of the wind at 27 mph or greater. Their Freeze Control
Unit will keep the air flowing, and with constant aeration, can
prevent icing near the airstone. One system is ideal for ponds up
to two acres in size.

Rainy Day Fabricating
Redekop Manufacturing
Rainy Day Fabricating is a manufacturer of high quality products
that are tough, durable and helpful for farmers to become more
efficient. In 2010 this company emerged to develop products
that help promote an easier way of farming. The Hopper and The
Lump Buster are two signature products manufactured by Rainy
Day Fabricating. The Hopper is a lightweight, all steel hopper
that is made to fit each individual size of auger. The jack/hitch
system allows the hopper to stay on the auger during transportation and keeps the hopper tight to the bin to ensure no grain
spillage. The Lump Buster sits inside The Hopper and is used
for beating up fertilizer lumps with a series of studded shafts.
Driven by the auger’s hydraulic package, The Lump Buster allows
an auger to run at full capacity, beating up all the lumps and hard
fertilizer that gets plugged in air seeder hoses.
Since 1985, Redekop Manufacturing has developed innovative
solutions for residue management and has become a manufacturer and exporter of straw chopper units and upgrades sold
to combines manufacturers, agricultural equipment dealers
and farmers. Located on the outskirts of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Redekop focuses on developing innovative harvest technologies that reduce labour and improve a farmer’s profitability.
Over 25,000 combine harvesters worldwide have used the straw
chopper and chaff management technology, and it is now standard equipment on many new combine models. The Maximum
Air Velocity (MAV) Technology, manufactured by Redekop, has
surpassed any other product on the market today, achieving the
widest spread and finest cut available. Redekop uses state-of-theart manufacturing technologies to produce high-quality, dependable products for customers worldwide.
