Welding aluminum with a pointed electrode increases
penetration and stabilizes the arc.
Structural and stainless steels are welded using direct current with the electrode negative pole.
Light alloys are welded using alternating current: when polarity alternation reverses, the flow of electrons from the plate to the electrode cracks the layer
of refractory aluminum. On the following alternation, the direct polarity ensures penetration.

European CE standards
They guarantee a quality of construction, chemical and mechanical
characteristics and a level of safety. All Oerlikon power sources have CE
certification. They impose construction requirements according to
European directives.
• Directive 89/336 imposes limitation of emissions of electromagnetic
interferences.
• The low voltage directives impose manufacturing, safety and
performance rules.
EN 60974-1, device capacities are given according to a welding current
delivered at a given duty cycle.
Duty cycle
It is defined in the standard. The duty cycle is the duration of continuous
use of a device, based on a time of 10 minutes at a temperature of 40°C. A duty cycle of 100 A at 60% means that over a period of 10
minutes, it is possible to weld continuously for 6 minutes, followed by a
stop of 4 minutes. A duty cycle of 100 A at 100% means that the source
is designed to deliver 100 A continuously.
Pre-gas
Used to purge the torch pipes before welding in order to start welding in
an atmosphere of protective gas.
Preheating stage
Allows positioning on the joint and preheating of the metal to be welded.
Up slope
Makes it possible to reach the welding current level progressively.
Down slope
Avoids the crater (shrinkage cavity) at the end of the bead when welding
stops.
End setting
Allows slower cooling of the weld pool and selection of a “lighted arc”
welding cycle, which is very useful when welding in position.
CITOSTEP
Used to adjust two distinct current levels via a signal from the torch
trigger.
Post-gas
Protects the weld pool and tungsten electrode during cooling.
Balance
Allows welding using alternating current (light alloys) to favour cleaning or
penetration.
Pulsed system
Avoids collapse of the weld pool during welding of thin thicknesses by
time phasing the welding current between a high value (hot time) and a
low value (cold time).
Clamping
Saves time during spot welding operations by avoiding having to go
through the whole welding cycle.
HF arc striking
System involving a distant striking of the electric arc without contact
between the tungsten electrode and the part to be welded.
Arc striking on contact
System involving striking of the electric arc as soon as the torch is raised
after contact has been made between the part and the tungsten
electrode. This mode is particularly useful when operating in
environments that are sensitive to high-frequency interference.
Square waves
In alternating current, the square form of current waves ensures excellent
arc stability and avoids arc disruption when the current changes
direction.
IP protection class
The first figure indicates the maximum diameter of an object able to
penetrate the device and come in contact with a dangerous part. The
second figure indicates the level of protection against falling rain.
Example: IP 23 - the “2” indicates that an object with a diameter greater
than 12.5mm may not be introduced into the device - the “3” indicates
that it is not damaged by rainfall at an angle of 60°.

Pulsed TIG and “synergic” pulsed TIG
2006-670
Because all pulse parameters can be adjusted, the pulsed TIG process allows
better control of the weld pool. The synergic pulsed system is an additional mode
proposed to make adjustment of the unit easier. With the synergic pulsed
system, there is no need to adjust the welding current or other pulse parameters
that may have been pre-programmed. The pulse frequency gives a high,
concentrated arc and increases welding speed.

CITOTIG AC/DC, inverter technology for TIG welding of
With 2 air-cooled models (200 and 250 amps) and 2 water-cooled
models (250 and 350 amps), this new CITOTIG AC/DC range handles
even the most difficult welding situations. A unique, complete and
very user-friendly front panel gives you a precise display of all
stages in the welding cycle.
This is a full range of units: single-phase at 200 amps and three-phase beyond with a high duty cycle value, these are water-cooled units that
ensure continuous, high-quality work. The front panel groups all functions and offers a very complete welding cycle, digital display of numerous
parameters and memorization up to 9 complete welding programs.
Product advantages:
• Single-phase power supply for the 200 AC/DC unit with primary consumption lower than 16 A, which makes it totally compatible with maintenance
and site work.
• Three-phase power supply for the 250 unit and twin-voltage for the 350, which makes them tools capable of meeting all customer requirements.
• Digital display of welding parameters for enhanced readability
• Complete welding cycle with LED display
• Processes: TIG DC, AC and MMA
• Pulsed function allowing work in position, on tubes and on thin thicknesses
• CITOSTEP function with 2 welding current levels and torch trigger call

all materials
Structural and stainless steels are welded using direct current with negative pole. Light alloys
are welded using alternating current: when polarity alternation reverses, the flow of electrons
from the plate to the electrode cracks the layer of refractory aluminum. On the following
alternation, the direct polarity ensures penetration. Welding aluminum with a pointed
electrode increases penetration and stabilizes the arc.

Workshop welding units
Microprocessor-controlled TIG inverters, these CITOTIG units, which use a
technology that has been extensively tried and tested by OERLIKON, have
a very comprehensive programming cycle. They deliver a very high-quality
current, which allows welding of steels and stainless steels using the TIG
DC process. In addition, the CITOTIG 500W AC/DC unit has the capacity
for AC welding of aluminum and alloys. Both units are also designed for all
CITOTIG 350W DC and CITOTIG 500W AC/DC
The CITOTIG 350 W DC and 500 W AC/DC ensure total operating safety with protection against power supply surges, overheating, absence
of coolant and display of the possible defect type, accurate and continuous parameter adjustments, easy arc striking with the electronic HF system,
electronic parameter control and LED display of cycle, progressive melting and exceptional arc rigidity, absolute current consistency totally regulated,
very low minimum current and high duty cycle value, automatic pre-gas programming and pre-display, retractable bottle holder and slinging rings,
totally rugged (functional cabinet with recessed front panel), integrated cooling system in bottom of unit, these are the numerous advantages
presented by this new inverters range.
Product advantages:
Pre-melting setting
Progressive current increase
Welding current
Arc fading
Arc extinction setting
Post-gas Function selection
2T / 4T / Clamping control
Arc striking by HF or "contact" with tungsten inclusion
TIG or MMA welding with choice of polarity

On-site welding power sources, CITOTIG TH
types of coated electrode. The CITOTIG TH 250 DC and TH 350W DC family consists of “thyristor”-technology welding power sources that are still widely used in piping/plumbing and
industrial maintenance activities. This technology made its name on sites all over the world,
providing its users with performance, simplicity of use and high resistance to the extreme
conditions encountered on outside sites.
CITOTIG TH 250 DC and TH 350 DC
CITOTIG TH 250 DC and TH 350 (W) DC welding units are power sources for the welding of all steels and stainless steels using both the TIG and MMA
processes. Specially designed for high-quality work both on-site and in the workshop, CITOTIG TH are very easy to move due to their large-diameter wheels
and judiciously placed handles. Some additional advantages of these power sources: total ruggedness (functional cabinet and recessed front panel), reduced
weight and size, slinging rings, bottle holder as an option. In addition, the welding performance of CITOTIG TH is very high: excellent arc striking facilitated
by the electronic HF system, progressive melting and exceptional arc rigidity, absolute current consistency totally regulated, adjustable up slope and down
slope, accurate and continuous parameter adjustment by potentiometer with display, 2T or 4T control.
