TM SPOOL OR SHACKLE INSULATORS INDIA Two sizes of L.T. shackle insulators are widely used in india for tension as well as tangent locations depending upon conductor sizes. These are 90 X 75 mm and 115 X 100 mm having failing load of 11.5 kN and 16 kN respectively. These insulators are made of good commercial grade wet process porcelain. Altough L.T. Insulators are not susceptible to electrical failure, nevertheless NP-INDIA ensures effective quality control particularly for archiving required mechanical strength and avoiding sharp bends or uneven surfaces. L.T.PIN INSULATORS The choice of low tension insulators are guided by the relative realiability of the secondary lines and constructional practices adopted by the different electricity supply undertaking. L.T. pin insulators are also used in tangent locations. These are provided with a top groove and threaded to take mild steel pins. The Pin insulators are generally suitable for a minimum failing load of 3.5 kN. GUY/EGG INSULATORS NP-INDIA guy insulators provide high quality insulation for medium and low voltage circuits. Its rugged design provides relative freedom from breakage due to impact or rough handling. Maximum strength is obtained from porcelain of guy insulators by the interlocking of guy cables as the load places the porcelain between the holes in compression Further, the porcelain grooves of these insulators are suitably designed to minimise strans stress. Guy or stay or egg insulators give protection in the event of a broken live conductor accidentally energising a guy wire or stay wire and remaining in contact with the live line which does nor trip. in such cases, he bottom portion of the guy wire or stay wire would have no voltage due to insulation of guy strain insulator which normally installed in the middle of the guy or stay wire. Three types of guy strain insulators are generally used for rural lines in India. These are (i) A type for 240/415V with minimum failing load of 44 kN, (ii) B type for the same 240/415V with min. failing load of 53 kN and (iii) C type for 11 kV lines with min. failing load of 88 kN. Two C type guy strain Insulators are normally used in series for 33 kV lines. Guy Insulators can also be effectively used for dead end on medium voltage lines 11 KV PIN INSULATORS NP - INDIA pin insulators are made of high grade wet process and are normally brown glazed. Available range of 11 kV pin insulators : 230 mm CD (small head), 230 mm CD (bell mouth), 280 mm CD & 320 mm CD. 11 KV POST INSULATORS NP-INDIA post insulators are made from high quality electrical grade porcelain which provides excellent electrical and mechanical properties. All post insulators are assembeled by jig and fixture to ensure accuracy of overall height, parallelity of end faces and correct alignment of fixing holes. Available range : 230 mm CD, 270 mm CD, 280 mm CD, 320 mm CD & 330 mm CD. 22 KV PIN INSULATORS NP-INDIA range of 22 kV pin insulators includes both one piece or multipiece construction. Pin insulators with special head grooves to accomodate special conductor fastenings can be supplied on request. Range available upto 900 mm CD 22 & 33 KV POST INSULATORS NP-INDIA cap & pedestal type post insulators are designed mainly to support disconnecting switches, busbars, conductors and equipment of substations. They are capable of being stressed in tension, compression, flexion, torsion and combined stresses upto the specified limits. These insulators are more ecnomical than other types of insulators used for similar applications. Cap & Pedestal type post insulators are divided into two main groups, viz. nonstacking and stacking units. For service voltage upto 33 kV single units are available. Multi-unit stacks are available for service voltage upto 220 kV. Smooth rounded contours of shell provide protection against chipping. Caps are made of malleable cast irons and pins of forged steel. These are galvenised to provide better protection against corrosion. Insulators having alternative electro-mechanical ratings, spacings or leakage distances to suit enviromental conditions. The glaze applied is compressive in nature, adds to mechanical strength and provides smooth surface for self cleaning under contamination. Standard glaze colour is brown. Disc Insulators are the most widely used models for transmission and distribution lines. In strings they can be used for any voltage depending on the number of units mounted in series. Their design varies to suit different types of polluted zones and mechanical strength as per customer’s requirement. Multipiece construction makes these insulators less vulnerable to damage as with one shell broken a multipiece insulator can normally withstand the line voltage for a considerable time without difficulty. In the early days, insulators were made of ceramic and glass materials. But in 1963, polymeric insulators were developed and its improvements in design and manufacturing in the recent years have made them attractive to utilities. It consists of a fiberglass core rod covered by weather-sheds or skirts of polymer such as silicone rubber, equipped with metal end fittings.
