ASPELA Times The News of the Los Angeles Chapter of The American Society of Plumbing Engineers www.aspela.com February 2015Volume 15 Issue 2 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Bill Siler President February 2015 Happy New Years. It’s the start of another wonderful year. Don’t know about your office but our office is really busy right now. We are even hiring for cad draft persons and entry level designers. With the start of a new year we have to start thinking about the up and coming elections for the ASPE LA board. I have decided to run for another year with the anticipation of possibly running for the region chair position in two years. I have the support of our current board and hope to have your support as well. It’s my understanding that everyone on the board would like to come back for another term with the exception of our treasurer. Ira has decided to step down. I would like to thank Ira for all his hard work the last couple years. I had this position one time, and I have to say I think it is the hardest job as a board member. So that you all understand with the changes that were voted in last year in Chicago, all the board positions are open for all but student members. So you can now run for any position on the board no matter what your membership status is. So with that being said if you’re happy with the board as is great. If you think you can help and want to, please step up and run for the position you think you can help the most in. We do need a new treasurer so please let me know if anyone is interested in this position. We currently have speakers up until our August meeting. After that we are open to your suggestions. As we all know the speaker is what really drives the attendance at our meetings. So I am asking the membership what topic would you like to see covered that has not been covered before. Legislative Starting the New Year with an update on the energy efficiency standards for residential water heaters: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/appliance_standards/product.aspx/productid/27 New energy efficiency mandates from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will take effect on April 16, 2015. They require higher energy factor (EF) ratings on virtually all residential water heating products including gasfired, oil-fired, electric, tabletop, instantaneous gas-fired and instantaneous electric. Tankless systems already exceed these EF requirements, and all other water heating products manufactured before the DOE mandates take effect can still be bought and installed after the changeover date. Residential water heaters must comply with the amended standards found in the Code of Federal Regulations, 10 CFR 430.32(d) , by April 16, 2015. This information is also in the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations. Table 2. When I was VT tech I have to say finding speakers that would hold your attention was the hardest thing. So if you have any suggestions please contact Thura. The ASPE LA, Orange County Golf Tournament Chris and his golf tournament committee is doing a great job. They have had quite a few meetings. A lot of great ideas have come up during these meetings and once we have nailed down a few things I will share with you what we have in store for you this year. I think this year is going to be over the top. You can find the flyer in this month’s newsletter so please plan ahead and sign up for your foursomes, or get your sponsorship forms sent in. For anyone wanting to put a foursome together please get your form in with your check to Chris as soon as you can. FYI we are taking signups on a first come first serve bases. We are accepting 144 entries on the first come bases and an additional 8 golfers to make a total of 152. So it’s important to everyone to get your sponsorship forms completed and sent in and your foursomes put together as soon as you can. The final 8 spots will come at a premium at $175.00 per person. For the sponsorships we are only asking for your form to be sent in at this time, we will collect your money next year as we get closer to the event. The beverage carts will be running again for all to keep hydrated with the beverage of your chose. If you have suggestions of things you would like to see happen during the event please let us know. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for event updates. I would like to thank Lubrizol and (Sloan Valves) Delco sales for stepping up again as Platinum Sponsors. If you have received a sponsorship form from myself or one of the other golf committee members please get it filled out and sent back in. We are going to add a pull down tab in our website for Platinum sponsors this year with a link to your website. So even more reason to step up to the platinum level. The ASPE LA Fishing trip So the fishing trip is officially in motion. During the last board meeting your board decided to change the deadline info a little. We have decided to look at the income for this event at our May meeting. What we are going to look at during our May board meeting is if we have enough at this time to change the trip to a 1 ½ day trip. If we have collected enough my May to do a short trip we will do this instead of canceling the trip. As you all know last year the chapter was on the hook for a lot of money because some people could not make the event. So if you sign up for the trip, rather you go or not you will be required to pay for that spot or find someone to fill your spot. They had a great time last year check out the Facebook page for all the photos of the event. I have a feeling this trip will fill up fast so contact Scott Steindler as soon as you can. You should be able to find the flyer with all the info in this month’s newsletter. The ASPE LA Product show The product show is on. We are still working on some final details one being the location. As soon as we have the location we will have a flyer on the event in the newsletter. So keep an eye out next month’s newsletter. The ASPE LA website The website is getting a face lift. We have launched a new website with some simply content for now. Our old website had a lot of clutter within it in the background causing some issues, so we have had our web designer working on getting us back online with something that is a more up to date. I had a meeting with Brian and his designer on Monday. We are making a few changes to the new website to give it a better look and more functionality. Keep an eye out in the coming months for the changes. Also if there’s something you would like to see that we do not have covered please let us know. The ASPE LA Facebook I know I’m a broken record but we are trying to get more people on the Facebook page. So please visit and sign up on the ASPE LA Facebook (ASPE Los Angeles). All of our event pictures will be posted on our Facebook page along with updates to our events. Until next month WHO Showed up? Attendance for the January 2015 Meeting...
