Second International

Workshop on Seismic

Performance of

Non-Structural Elements

May 13, 2015, Pavia, Italy

Second International

Workshop on Seismic

Performance

of Non-Structural Elements

Objectives

In many earthquakes, losses from damage to non-structural building elements have exceeded losses from structural damage. Failure of non-structural elements can limit severely the functionality of critical facilities, and can pose a significant safety risk to building occupants as well. However, the development of seismic design provisions for nonstructural components has lagged behind that of primary structural system, and research on the seismic design of non-structural elements is limited. With these in view, this Second International SPONSE

Workshop is intended to promote communication and develop synergies among international researchers on the study of seismic performance of non-structural elements.

Organizer

European Centre for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering (EUCENTRE), Pavia,

Italy. The Eucentre Foundation, based in Pavia (Italy), is a non-profit organisation that promotes, supports and sustains training and research in the field of seismic risk mitigation.

The Eucentre was founded in 2003 by the following institutions: Italian National Department of Civil Protection, University of Pavia (Italy), Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology

(INGV), Institute of Advanced Study (IUSS) of Pavia (Italy). Its research section “Non-Structural

Elements” develops analytical and experimental methods in order to improve knowledge on the seismic performance, analysis and design of non-structural building elements in buildings and facilities.

Co-chairs

Dr. Timothy Sullivan, University of Pavia, Italy

Prof. André Filiatrault, IUSS Pavia, Italy and State University of New York at Buffalo, USA

Venue

The Workshop will take place at the Collegio Riboldi (www.collegioriboldi.it), a landmark structure dating back to the second half of the seventeenth century, purposely refurbished to serve as an international hosting facility for postgraduate students and visiting scholars working in the field of natural risk mitigation. It is located in the centre of Pavia, in Via Luigi

Porta, 10.

Attending the event

In addition to the presenters and invited attendees, external participants may also be accepted, for which professionals and researchers worldwide are encouraged to take part in the event. A 50 e fee is required from external attendees, to cover for the cost of coffee/lunch breaks. Those who wish to attend the Workshop are kindly invited to contact the Eucentre

Secretariat, at the following address: info@eucentre.it.

You may also refer to the Eucentre website (www.eucentre.it) for further information on all

Eucentre activities.
