CTIA Battery Certification Scheme The CTIA Battery Certification Scheme is an industry-led programme for anyone wishing to sell cellular products and accessories to network operators in North America. Compliance with the scheme satisfies the minimum requirements imposed by the network operators and allows manufacturers of battery cells / packs, power adapters, docking stations / charging cradles and cellular devices to raise safety and quality levels within the industry. Certification is based on demonstrating compliance with the standard IEEE 1725 “Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones” and CTIA certification documents. IEEE 1725 covers system integration, battery cell design processes, manufacturing considerations, assembly precautions, leakage protection, component & thermal considerations, overcharge, over-current, mechanical considerations, connector & terminals, quality control, security & validation, as well as external influences such as the intended use of the cellular device and its associated accessories. Auditing (where relevant) and 3rd party testing by any CTIA Authorised Test Laboratory, such as TÜV SÜD, is required for recognition of accessories and certification of complete cellular systems. We are one of the established market leaders in the scheme and the only authorised test laboratory in the UK, placing us as your compliance partner of choice to help you obtain certification for your cellular device or recognition for accessories. TÜV Product Service TÜV SÜD Group We understand that time to market is of the upmost importance to you, so we offer a fast, efficient and cost effective route to CTIA Battery Certification. Working with us gives you access to our international CTIA test laboratories, specialist engineers, consultants and auditors. Recognised Accessories: - Battery Cell Battery Pack AC – DC Adapter DC – DC Adapter External backup battery Docking Station / Cradle Certified System (Cellular Device): - Cell / Mobile Phone - Handheld Computer (e.g. Scanners / Portable terminals) Certified Cellular product systems typically are handheld / portable cellular products powered by a Li-Ion / Li-Ion Polymer battery. The certified system can include, for example, a recognised AC-DC Adapter. The battery pack and the battery cell used within the battery pack must also be recognised by the CTIA. Db = Database Subsystem Recognition applies to Battery Cells, Battery Packs, Adapters and "Hybrid" devices such as an external backup battery pack. System Certification applies to the complete cellular system for example consisting of a recognised battery pack & adapter with Host device such as a mobile phone. Battery Cell Recognition requires annual factory audits of the cell manufacturing facility.
