THE CANADIAN NATIONAL ROVER MOOT
As no doubt you're already aware, those long lazy, warm summer days are
q u i c k l y disappearing. Each proceeding sunset comes a l i t t l e e a r l i e r now; i t s
a sure sign t h a t autumn i s j u s t around the corner. Some o f you are already
t h i n k i n g September, I hope, and how the crew/company w i l l gather ranks t o
s t a r t the new year ahead, I t r u s t everyone has had a good time o f i t over the
summer season, w i t h l o t s o f outdoor a c t i v i t i e s and "fun times".
I n the l a s t few months the organizing committee f o r the next National
Rover Moot i n 82 has been active i n piecing together f u r t h e r the best Moot
t h a t Canadian Rovering has ever seen. Much o f the Brotherhood o f which I've
spoken so h i g h l y , has been evident, as Rovers work together i n t h a t common
bond o f f r i e n d s h i p , t r u s t and good s p i r i t . Emotion and excitement i s b u i l d ing s t e a d i l y as more become involved i n t h i s "Rovering Extravaganza". No
stone w i l l be l e f t unturned; i f there's a way i t can be done, the Moot committee
w i l l f i n d i t ; r e s t assured.
Plans have been l a i d t o give Canadian Rovers and our i n t e r n a t i o n a l
guests a piece o f Ontario as i t has never seen before. Many o f Ontario's
"high p o i n t s " w i l l be v i s i t e d by the Moot p a r t i c i p a n t s ; storming the CN

We, the 11th Cambridge (Invested) Rovers, wish t o correct an e r r o r w i t h
appeared i n a recent issue.
In regards t o the remark made i n the "How Bout That" column where as the
11th Cambrdige Rovers, "showed t h e i r s t u p i d i t y " , by challenging the Donnacona
Ranger Regatta canoe team t o a race a t Camelot 80 and l o s i n g .
We would l i k e t o put the record straight*. I I THESE FOOLS WERE SQUIRES!!!
They were s t i l l "wet" behind the ears. They had not yeat learned t o "paddle
t h e i r own canoes". Let i t be known t o a l l t h a t these squires have been given
a good "paddling", b u t they're on an even "keel" now.

F o f years Rovers have be on a s k i n g f o r i n f o r m a t i o n on Questing.
You hear i t a t every Moot. People speak o f q u e s t i n g , l i s t e n
t o t a l k s on q u e s t i n g t h e n go back home, f i x t h e l o c k on t h e den
door, b r i n g t h e photo album up t o date, design a crew c r e s t and
c a l l i t q u e s t i n g . We don't g e t t h e p o i n t across somehow. Maybe
something w r i t t e n down w i l l be more e f f e c t i v e , more e a s i l y r e membered. "The H a m i l t o n Quester" w i l l endeavour t o h e l p a l l
Crews t o come t o a r e a l i z a t i o n o f what Questing i s and o f f e r
some s u g g e s t i o n s t o h e l p you g e t s t a r t e d .
The e d i t o r o f t h e s e c t i o n "Questing" w i l l be known as Ye
Olde H a m i l t o n Quester, a pen name he p r e f e r s t o use s i n c e much
of the m a t e r i a l i s not o r i g i n a l .

broad minded, p r o g r e s s i v e f e l l o w s who w i l l somedat take over
the r e i g n s f r o m t h e b u n g l i n g , p r e j u d i c e d men who a r e r u n n i n g t h e
a f f a i r s o f t h e w o r l d today. I t has been a p r i v i l e g e t o r u b
s h o u l d e r s w i t h f e l l o w s who have t h e p o t e n t i a l a b i l i t y t o g e t
out and make t h e w o r l d a good p l a c e t o l i v e i n - a l l o v e r - a t

You have t h e answers f o r most o f t h e problems which f a l l

w i l l chew i t t o shreds. Toss o u t some o t h e r s u b j e c t and what
happens ? Unless you have a couple o f f e l l o w s who are r e a l l y
h i p p e d on t h e t o p i c i t w i l l go as f l a t as y e s t e r d a y s (name o f
beverage cencored). I t ' s g o t you w o r r i e d , hasn't i t , S k i p p e r .

How can y o u g e t them on t h e beam you ask ? I saw G.W. do
i t once when he came down t o guest speak a t my Crew. He b r o u g h t
a l o n g some s l i p s o f paper, b e f o r e he began h i s t a l k he passed
these s l i p s around and asked each p e r s o n t o w r i t e down what
that
person wanted t o be i n l i f e .
Then he c o l l e c t e d t h e papers and
went on w i t h h i s t a l k w i t h e v e r y f e l l o w t h e r e p a y i n g close a t t e n t i o n t o see where h i s a m b i t i o n f i t t e d i n t o t h e t a l k . You c o u l d
j u s t hear t h e gears g o i n g around i n t h e i r heads. Three hours
l a t e r we had t o t h r o w t h e gang o u t so our h o s t c o u l d go t o bed.

WHY
?
Rule one;
MAKE I T PERSONAL.
The s a l v a t i o n o f h i s s o u l i s
n o t o f immediate importance t o a young f e l l o w , b u t h i s j o b i s .
I f you can make r e l i g i o n p e r s o n a l enough y o u ' l l g e t good d i s c u s s i o n
on t h a t t o o . So t o g e t t h e f e l l o w s used t o d i s c u s s i n g t h i n g s head
them i n t o something t h e y know a "bit about, make I t mean something
t o each one o f them t h e n s t a n d c l e a r .
Here comes a n o t h e r problem. Once t h e f i r e i s l i t and steam
i s up do you g e t t h e most o u t o f t h e o p i n i o n s t h a t f l y around.
Rules say t h a t o n l y one man s h o u l d speak a t once. Of course you
can be v e r y p a r l i m e n t a r y and have everyone address t h e c h a i r .
T h i s approach I s f i n e f o r t h e windbags i n t h e Crew who can sound
o f f by t h e hour, b u t what about t h e f e l l o w who hasn't t h e nerve
t o jump up and y e l l "But Mr. Chairman". These q u i e t f e l l o w s must
be brought o u t a b i t , so l e t ' s use a system w h i c h g i v e s everyone
a chance. The system I l i k e , imposes much needed s e l f d i s c i p l i n e
on t h e showoff, i t f o r c e s t h e verbose t o choose h i s words and g i v e s
t h e q u i e t l a d a chance t o express h i m s e l f b e f o r e a d i g n i f i e d
audience. I c a l l i t t h e Put Up and Shut Up Method and i t i s dandy
f o r a contraversial subject.
Seat t h e group i n a horseshoe o r around a t a b l e . Each person
speaks i n t u r n f o r a l i m i t e d t i m e - say two minutes. Any person
n o t w i s h i n g t o speak may Invoke one minute o f s i l e n c e f o r though.
Go around t h e group as o f t e n as necessary. For summing up have
each person i n t u r n t e l l how t h e d i s c u s s i o n has changed h i s views.
The Leader may g i v e a f i n a l summary o f c o n c l u s i o n s reached.
When everyone wants t o t a l k a t once draw names o u t o f h a t f o r
t h e f i r s t round. A c t u a l l y i t s h o u l d n ' t t a k e Rovers l o n g t o l e a r n
t o be a gentlemen i n a d i s c u s s i o n . I ' v e found i t pays t o be as
i n f o r m a l as p o s s i b l e .
Rule two: KEEP I T INFORMAL. Many a good i d e a has been l o s t
because i t t o o k t o o l o n g t o g e t Mr. Chairman's a t t e n t i o n o r t h e
i d e a c o u l d n ' t s t i c k around t o o u t w a i t t h e windbag. S h o r t speaking
p e r i o d s and simple r u l e s keep t h i n g s moving.
Keep on t h e q u i e t f e l l o w s t a i l .
Pound i t every once i n a w h i l e
and h e ' l l g e t over b e i n g shy. Some f e l l o w s keep q u i e t because t h e y
a r e new i n t h e Crew o r because o f language d i f f i c u l t y , o r j u s t p l a i n
l a c k o f i n t e r e s t . Bounce a q u e s t i o n o f f t h e s i d e c u s h i o n once and
w h i l e . I f someone i n t h e gang asks a q u e s t i o n o f no one i n p a r t i c u l a r , p i c k i t up l i k e a good s h o r t s t o p and whip i t over t o t h e
q u i e t f e l l o w . That's y o u r j o b , s t i m u l a t e t h e slow Joe. Make t h e
new f e l l o w f e e l t h a t h i s i d e a w i l l be f r e s h and i n t e r e s t i n g t o t h i s
group who know each o t h e r so w e l l . Y o u ' l l be w e l l rewarded.

used t o d i s c u s s i o n s e s s i o n s . L e t them e x p e r i e n c e t h e t h r i l l o f
c o n t r i b u t i n g t o t h e i r success.
Remember t o summarize so t h a t each
person t a k e s away a n e a t l y wrapped up gem f o r h i s storehouse o f
experience.
QUESTING
Every Crew wants t o be proud o f t h e i r r e c o r d . You hang up
y o u r Moot Pennants and p r i z e r i b b o n s . You t h i n k t h a t y o u r gang i s
the b e s t bunch o f f e l l o w s t h e r e ever w i l l be. You're r i g h t t o o .
Bur underneath a l l t h e c h e s t thumping t h e r e i s j u s t a l i t t l e f e e l i n g t h a t i t i s p o s s i b l e t o do a b e t t e r j o b o f Rovering. T h i s r e a l i z a t i o n h u r t s because t h e r e seems t o be so l i t t l e response t o t h e
q u e s t i o n "How?". How can you l i v e up t o t h e Promise and Law?

Because Q u e s t i n g covers such an area Dr. G r i f f i n back i n 1930
suggested Quests f o l l l o w i n g the g e n e r a l p r a c t i s e o f t h e Scout Law.
Because t h e r e doesn't seem t o be any b e t t e r approach "The H a m i l t o n
Quester" w i l l f o l l o w t h e same p l a n . However s i n c e c o n d i t i o n s have
changed and more m a t e r i a l i s a v a i l a b l e we have compiled a l l we can
get o u r hands on. We hope t h a t some o f t h e ideas are new s i n c e we
hate t o be j u s t a copy-catL

Why embark on t h e Quest o f T r u t h ?
Know t h e T r u t h and t h e T r u t h s h a l l make thee f r e e . That doesn't
mean j u s t f r e e o f s h a c k l e s .
I t means f r e e o f many k i n d s o f r e s t i c t i o n s . I t means freedom from c o l d and hunger, freedom from f e a r ,
freedom o f movement and a l l t h e o t h e r freedoms you can t h i n k o f .
People a r e no l o n g e r l i m i t e d t o one t r a d e , one type o f c l o t h i n g ,
one method o f t r a v e l l i n g , oneway o f t h i n k i n g . Why? Because men
have pushed back t h e b a r r i e r s o f ignorance and b r o u g h t t o l i g h t g r e a t
t r u t h s which have been a p p l i e d t o make o u r l i v e s t h e f r e e and p l e a s a n t
t h i n g s they are.
Why have some people l o s t t h e i r freedom? Because i n t h e i r
ignorance o f t h e T r u t h t h e y have accepted f a l s e d o c t r i n e s and become t h e s l a v e s o f f a n a t i c s . These people a r e s l a v e s because t h e y
r e l i e d on t h e i r emotions r a t h e r t h a n upon t h e i r knowledge f o r
answers t o t h e i r problems. A Rover need never be swayed by t h e s p e l l
b i n d e r , t h e f a n a t i c , t h e p u l p i t pounder, f o r a l l t h e f i e l d s o f knowledge a r e open t o him. The Rover s h o u l d study o n l y f a c t s and i n t e r p r e t them t o a r r i v e a t c o n c l u s i o n s which a r e h i s own. A Rover
s h o u l d n o t accept anyone e l s e ' s c o n c l u s i o n s w i t h o u t a knowledge

G a t h e r i n g a r o u n d t h e f l a g p o l e , s a d thoughs o f p a r t i n g were on e a c h
man's mind. I t had been a c h a l l e n g i n g weekend, w i t h e a c h man g i v i n g no l e s s
t h a n h i s b e s t f o r t h e c a u s e . A l l were t i r e d , many were s o r e , b u t none doubted
t h a t t h e weekend had been e n j o y a b l e , i t s memory o c c u p y i n g a t r e a s u r e d p l a c e
i n t h e museum o f t h e i r minds.
A f t e r h a v i n g h a l t e d t h e i r means o f t r a n s p o r t a t t h e c l a n o f t h e r e g i s t r a r ,
and p r o c e e d i n g on f a s t t o t h e S h e r i f f ' s domain,, Robin Hood and h i s men had
s p e n t t h e f i r s t n i g h t making camp, m e e t i n g o l d a l l i e s , and j o i n i n g i n on an
i n f o r m a l c a m p f i r e . The e v e n i n g was rounded o u t w i t h a m i d n i g h t t e s t o f t h e
men's t r a c k i n g and s o l d i e r i n g s k i l l s t h a t i n v o l v e d g a i n i n g p o s s e s s i o n o f t h e
o p p o s i n g teams' b a n n e r . A f t e r r u n n i n g t h r o u g h dew-moist f i e l d s and f o r e s t s ,
the men r e t r e a t e d t o t h e i r encampments t o r e s t and r e g r o u p f o r t h e c h a l l e n g e s
t h a t a w a i t e d them on t h e new day.
Dawn b r e e c h e d t h e h o r i z o n i n d a z z e l i n g r i b b o n s o f w h i t e , t h a t s e t t h e
b i r d s c h i r p i n g and t h e wake-up c a l l w a i l i n g .

b a n d a g i n g o f wounds.

The t r e e s were b a r e l y c a s t i n g a shadow when t h e S h e r i f f o r d e r e d a recommencement o f t h e Games. The a f t e r n o o n ' s c h a l l e n g e s i n c l u d e d a Tug-o-War, a
t r a v o i s r a c e , and a game o f v o l l e y b a l l .

E a s t , t o t h e d e l i g h t and amazement o f a l l .

Why a l l t h i s t a l k about home? I t has been b r o u g h t t o o u r
a t t e n t i o n , t h a t i n r e c e n t moots, t e n t r a i d i n g and s e r i o u s horseplay i s s t a r t i n g t o esculate.
Some o f you a r e b l i s s f u l l y unaware o f these episodes, o t h e r s
i n c l u d i n g some i n n o c e n t bystanders a r e p a i n f u l l y aware o f a
s i t u a t i o n t h a t can g e t p r o g r e s s i v e l y worse.
Horseplay, pranks o r whatever you want t o c a l l them, can
be f u n , b u t when i t invades t h e campsite o r i s d i r e c t e d a t a
campsite, i t can become dangerous and d e s t r u c t i v e .
An example you say, ok , a group o f Ventures a t a r e c e n t
moot b r o u g h t w i t h them a w a t e r b a l l o n l a u n c h i n g c a t a p a u l t , which
was h i l a r o u s . But when t h e y t u r n e d i t on a campsite, t h e home
away from home, t h e c o i n f l i p p e d over. One o f a c e r t a i n crew's
d i n i n g f l y t o o k a d i r e c t h i t , w h i l e t h e y were absent, a Coalman
l a n t e r n i n s i d e was knocked o f f i t s hook and smashed on t h e ground.
The crew i n v o l v e d decided t o l e t t h e m a t t e r pass i f t h e r e were
no more a t t a c k s . BUT what would o f happened i f t h a t l a n t e r n
had been lit.........BOOM!!
Two groups s t a r t e d o u t p l a y i n g minor t r i c k s on each o t h e r ,

The Cubs c o u l d ; r e a l l y s e e what R o v e r i n g was
a l l a b o u t . I g u e s s I was wrong and boy was I s h o c k e d . A f t e r e x p l a i n i n g
t o t h e Cubs t h a t t e n t r a i d i n g w o u l d n o t b e c a l l e d f o r and anyone c a u g h t
w o u l d be s e n t home, we expanded a l o n g t h e s e l i n e s s a y i n g t h a t i t w a s n ' t
t h e n i c e s t t h i n g t o h a v e t o g e t up d u r i n g t h e e a r l y m o r n i n g h o u r s t o p u t
up t e n t s a g a i n .
We were awakened from: t h e f i r s t r e a l s l l e p any o f u s h a d found d u r i n g
t h e week, a t 5:05 i n t h e morning b y h y s t e r i c a l c u b s , t e l l i n g u s t h a t
" B i g Men" ( R o v e r s ) h a d dumped t h e i r t e n t s .

JUNE 1980 CAMP SAMAC AT THE 2 0 t h EDITION OF THE
CAMAS MOOT. A SILENT ROBED AND HOODED FIGURE WOUND ITS WAY
THROUGH THE CAMAS MOOT SHORTLY BEFORE MIDNIGHT, ON SATURDAY
EVENING. THE ONLY SOUND MADE DURING ITS VISIT WAS THE TAPPING
OF A THUMBSTICK ON THE ASPHALT ROADS. THE GHOSTLY FIGURE WAS
FOLLOWED BY SOME CURIOUS RANGERS FOR A WHILE AND BY A COUPLE
OF ROVER SKIPS. AT TIMES I T SEEMED TO STOP AND OBSERVE THE
PARTICIPENTS, THE SLOWLY CONTINE ON ITS WAY. THE APPARITION

my b r o t h e r and s i s t e r - i n - l a w s m a g n i f i c e n t , g l o r i o u s , p l u s h , f a n t a s t i c , superb 30 f o o t ocean g o i n g c u t t e r f i g g e d s a i l b o a t , named Sinbad.
Now you p r o b a b l y know who w r o t e t h i s paragraph, my b r o t h e r , t h e
Captain.
He o n l y has t h e t i t l e o f C a p t a i n , because t h e A d m i r a l , my s i s t e r i n - l a w s a i d so. What i s happening t o good o l d navy t r a d i t i o n , s i g n e d
the Captain.
O.K. you o f f i c e r s , go back t o y o u r s t a t i o n s , I would
l i k e t o f i n i s h my a r t i c l e , s i g n e d t h e o n l y crew.
Our adventure began a t Newcastle, O n t a r i o ( j u s t east o f Oshawa),
where I had dreams o f s t a r t i n g my g l c r i o u s suntan. W e l l f o r the 60
m i l e t r i p down t o T r e n t o n , we e x p e r i e n c e d c l o u d y , m i s t y , c o o l , foggy,
w e l l g e n e r a l l y f o u l weather. But t h a t was t h e b e s t p a r t o f our day,
b e l i e v e me.
T r e n t o n , which i s l o c a t e d i n t h e Bay o f Q u i n t e , marks
t h e 2^-0.6 m i l e T r e n t System. I n o r d e r t o get t h e r e , you have t o pass
t h r o u g h P r e s q u i l e Bay, Canada's N a t i o n a l weed f a r m , o r so i t seems,
and t h a t s were our t r o u b l e began. W e l l C a p t a i n nervous, my b r o t h e r ,
s t a r t e d t a l k i n g o f h i s y e a r l y swim i n t h e Murray Canal which conn e c t s P r e s q u i l e Bay and t h e Bay o f Q u i n t e . W e l l a f t e r a s h o r t s t o p
i n t h e c a n a l , f o r weed removal, we proceeded t o T r e n t o n .
The T r e n t Canal system o r i g i n a l l y was a t r a d i n g r o u t e i n c o r p o r a t i n g t h e use o f t h e Severn R i v e r , a s e r i e s o f l a k e s , t h e T r e n t
R i v e r and a s i n g l e l o c k , b u i l t a t Bobcaygeon i n 1883- I t wasn't
u n t i l 1920 b e f o r e a v e s s e l c o u l d t r a v e l between Lake O n t a r i o and
Georgian Bay b u t t h e p a r t s t h a t were completed were used e x t e n s i v e l y
by l o c a l commerce. Now a days commercial t r a f f i c on t h e system i s
almost n o n - e x s i s t e n t , s i n c e t h e e s t a b l i s h m e n t o f e x s t e n s i v e road and
r a i l networks. Water t r a f f i b on t h e T r e n t has n o t decreased however,
due t o t h e p l e a s u r e b o a t e r s making use o f i t s p r e t t y canals and l a k e s
The f i r s t s e t o f l o c k s ^ h i c h s t a r t y o u r ascent t o t h e summit,
Balsam Lake i s a l o c k i n a s e r i e s o f 42. One l o c k t h a t must be seen
are t h e Peterborough L i f t l o c k s , which operate on a h y d r a l i c system.
W i t h a l i f t o f 65 f e e t , t h e y are the h i g h e s t i n t h e w o r l d . I t i s
q u i t e a s e n s a t i o n t o t a k e yo'pr boat i n t o t h e l o c k and be l i f t e d those
65 f e e t a l o n g w i t h 9-7 m i l l i o n g a l l o n s o f water. By t h e t i m e we
reached Peterborough, I was r e c e i v i n g a o v e r c a s t and soggy t a n .
One n i g h t we s t a y e d a t Nassau M i l l s , l o c k 22 which had a n i c e
q u i e t O n t a r i o Hydro power q e n e r a t i n g s t a t i o n l o c a t e d r i g h t beside
the l o c k . We decided t o go f o r a swim and wash those c o o t i e s o u t o f
our h a i r .
I was g o i n g t o jump i n p e a c e f u l l y b u t , my b r o t h e r had t o
make i t q u i c k e r by t h r o w i n g :ne i n . What a j o y . The n e x t day was
one I was l o o k i n g f o r w a r d t o more t h a n t h e o t h e r s . We were g o i n g
t h r o u g h Sturgeon Lake. That might n o t sound l i k e a t h r i l l t o you
b u t i n was t o me, because oui? f a m i l y use t o r e n t a c o t t a g e on t h a t
l a k e f o r 18 y e a r s . I went f o r 8 o f my 14 y e a r s . For t h e n i g h t we
q u i t e w e l l , Government Dock. I r e c a l l
t h i s dock b e i n g r e a l l y b i g but when we g o t t h e r e a l l o f our boat
w o u l d n ' t even f i t a t t h e dock. I t seemed much b i g g e r i n my c h i l d h o o d
mind.
We c o n t i n u e d on t h e n e x t day t o Fenelon F a l l s . We stopped t h e r e
f o r h a l f a day.
My b r o t h e r went t o get d e i s e l f u e l b u t none o f t h e
gas s t a t i o n s s o l d d e i s e l . We f i n a l l y purchased some from some cons t r u c t i o n w o r k e r s . A t 51£ a g a l l o n , i t had t o be t h e b e s t buy on
our t r i p .
While we were t h e r e we g o t some more i c e and our f i r s t
meal out a t D i x i e Lee Chicken.
Along t h e way we have seen many b i r d s , e s p e c i a l l y Herons.
My s i s t e r - i n - l a w , Sue, has bpen keeping count, she i s up t o 20.
A l o n g t h e way we have met up w i t h s e v e r a l motor-boats, and
we met up w i t h them a g a i n i n t h e Severn R i v e r . The Severn R i v e r
weaves i n and out o f a l l k i n d s o f r o c k s , i t l o o k e d l i k e we were
p l a y i n g hide-and-go-seek.
Another I m p r e s s i v e s i g ht i s l o c k 4 1 , t h e second l a s t l o c k
i n t h e T r e n t system. I t i s n • t r e a l l y a l o c k b u t a marine r a i l w a y .
T h i s hanger t a k e s you r i g h t out o f t h e w a t e r and i s a b l e t o handle
up t o a seventy f o o t s a i l b o a t . Once you and t h e o t h e r boats are
ready t o go you can j u s t s i t hack and r e l a x .
The marine railway
i s j u s t a maze o f h y d r a l i c s t h a t i s on t r a c k s t h a t t a k e a boat
up o r down a h i l l and back i n t h e water. The reason f o r b u i l d i n g
a marine r a i l w a y i n s t e a d o f a l o c k i s t o keep t h e Lamprey f i s h o u t
o f t h e T r e n t System.
Thursday o f t h a t week we f i n a l l y made i t t o t h e l a s t l o c k .
We d i d t h e whole t r e n t system i n 5 days. The r e c o r d f o r a s a i l
boat i s ki days,and now i t i s on t o Midland t o have h e r mast stepped
or f o r you non s a i l e r s have t h e mast p u t up. The n e x t day she
had h e r mast up i n a hour. The r e s t o f t h e day was spent g e t t i n g
t h e r i g g i n g up. We p u t t h e s a i l s up a t dock t o make sure t h e y
were a l l r i g h t . I n d o i n g so t h e r e was a. breeze and she l e a n e d
a t dock and seemed t o be a l i v e once more.
We spent a n o t h e r day a t t h e posh M i d l a n d marina j u s t t o
r e l a x and c l e a n up t h e boat a l i t t l e . I n d o i n g so, I was c l e a n i n g
the h u l l by s i t t i n g i n t h e d i n g y . I t was j u s t my l u c k , i t s t a r t e d
to r a i n .
I v/as s t a n d i n g up i n t h e d i n g y hanging on t o t h e dock
t r y i n g t o g e t o u t , when a l l o f a sudden'the d i n g y went under t h e
dock, l o s i n g my balance I f e l l i n . I had a v e r y h a r d t i m e g e t t i n g
out o f t h e water. Do you know how c o l d Georgian Bay i s w e l l I do
f i r s t hand.
A s i m i l a r t h i n g happen a g a i n when we were anchored, a t
Beckwith I s l a n d f o r a few days.
I came back f r o m r o w i n g and
was g e t t i n g o u t . My two hands were on t h e s t e r n o f t h e boat and my
one f o o t on t h e s t e p , when a l l o f a sudden guess who had f a l l e n
i n t o t h e w a t e r up t o t h i e r w a i s t , b u t was s t i l l hanging on.

G e t t i n g back t o B e c k w i t h I s l a n d , I t was j u s t b e a u t i f u l .
I t i s i n Georgian Bay and i f you have ever seen Georgian Bay
you know how c l e a r i t i s . We were anchored i n 12 f e e t o f w a t e r and
c o u l d see o u r anchor a t t h e bottom and where I t had been a l l
n i g h t . I t was j u s t g r e a t .
Tuesday J u l y 29 we reached o u r d e s t i n a t i o n W i a r t o n . I
d i d n ' t g e t much o f a t a n , b u t t h e t r i p was w o r t h i t t o see more
o f O n t a r i o , Canada. I f you. ever have t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o do
