eXPert automation and control integrated system eXPert is a complete product suite that allows the development of industrial automation and control systems; eXPert software components can be distributed on LAN/WAN connected nodes (PC) and can be configured in compliance with the particular plant characteristics and requirements. eXPert consist of both hardware, field connected, data acquisition, regulation/control devices and elaboration software packages (plant data management, historian, alarming, graphical visualization) running on Vista/XP platform. s.d.i. s.p.a Trezzano S/N – Pisa www.sdiautomazione.it Hardware devices are grouped in eXPert field data acquisition and control product family that consists of: the STAR series (acquisition and regulation stations) used in building DCS systems (distributed control systems) and μSTAR series (RTUs: remote terminal units), specific for telecontrol applications. STAR units (STation for data Acquisition and Regulation) are programmable logic controllers of the latest generation; they provide to all functions of PLC, LOOP and MULTILOOP controllers. STAR provides field data acquisition and plant control functions defined as level 0: automation, regulation, logics and sequences, blocks. STAR is one of the main components of the s.d.i. automazione eXPert DCS system. It is completely configurable, from a remote development PC unit. Automation and control logic are defined using functional block diagram written using an IEC 1131-3 conformant editor. specifically designed for telecontrol applications. μSTAR and ηSTAR peripheral telecontrol equipment is the low cost solution for geographically distributed data acquisition. RTU devices can connect to supervisory centre using PSTN, GSM or radio modem. Low power carachteristics of μSTAR RTU allows the use of solar energy and batteries for device power supply. μSTAR equipment has been used in public utilities services, such as public light management systems, semaphoring network control, waste water, water depuration plants, gas distribution and storage; all telecontrol systems were widely distributed on geographic area. s.d.i. automazione industriale developed a field data acquisition and control unit (being part of the STAR product line) s.d.i. s.p.a Trezzano S/N – Pisa www.sdiautomazione.it Field data acquisition and protocol implementation is provided by the I/O Server component. In case of telecontrol systems I/O Server provides also to communication lines management, and multiple protocols/communication media support, allowing connection with different data acquisition devices (RTU, PLC, data logger) on different communication media (PSTN and ISDN telephone lines, GSM, radio bridge, WAN, LAN). Connectivity tools are also provided, allowing geographically distributed telecontrol applications; multiple networked SCADA systems (in hierarchical or flat connectivity architecture), telephone remote alarming (Remote Alarming), web enabled plant display visualization (WEB HMI). eXPert run time environment is the software package used in automation and control systems. It consist of SCADA, HMI, Historian stations, SoftPLC, I/O Servers providing field data acquisition and (if needed) communication lines management. eXPert integrated development tools provide an engineering and maintenance station that allow the definition of the whole automation and control system: field and calculated data tags, displays, popup control faceplates, reports, historical data, application programs.
