The following applies to polyamides: the mechanical characteristics change as a result of moisture absorption, the material becomes tougher, more impact-proof, the E-module decreases. However, depending on ambient atmosphere, temperature and time for moisture absorption, only a certain surface layer is affected by the changed characteristics. In thick-walled components the core area remains unchanged. The mechanical characteristics of fibre-reinforced materials were determined from injection-moulded test bodies in the direction of the fibre. We would be delighted to inform you of the relevant data for your applications on request if you are designing constructions or defining material specifications. Printing errors excepted. Other characteristics Resistance to acids Please note the following: The specified electrical parameters (test condition: dry) were measured on natural-coloured material. For other colours (especially black) or when the material is moist, significant changes of electrical parameters may occur. The short-term operating temperature only applies to applications with very low stress over a few hours. The long-term max. operating temperature is based on the heat-aging of the plastics by oxidation and this has a reducing effect on the mechanical characteristics. Temperatures indicated are those that cause a decrease in tensile strength (measured at room temperature) of 50 % compared to the initial value after a time of min. 5000 hours. This value provides no information about the mechanical strength of the material at high operating temperatures. In the case of thick-walled components, only the superficial layer is affected by oxidation at high temperatures. These can be better protected by the addition of anti-oxidants. The core of the components is not damaged in any case. The min. operating temperature is significantly determined by a possible impact or shock loading in operation. The specified values relate to low impact stress. The specified values were ascertained from many individual measurements as average values and reflect our current state of knowledge. They only serve to provide information on our products and as an aid to the selection of materials.
