QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q-1
The fire rated glass door details provided in the contract drawings appear to be the typical
details used by two companies that cannot meet the buy America requirements for the
project and will require a waiver. We can provide fire rated glass doors and meet the buy
America requirements but the details will significantly differ from those on the contract
drawings. Please advise if a waiver will be provided or if it will be acceptable to provide an
alternative product for the fire rated doors that can meet the Buy America requirements.
A.
Fire Rated Glass Doors assemblies meeting the buy America provision and differ from the
contract drawing details will be allowed. However, the detail deviations must be limited to the
parameters defined in Specification Section 08113, FIRE RATED GLASS AND FRAMING
SYSTEMS. Refer to Article 2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS.
Q-2
Drawing A-4480 Details 1 & 2 show a pre-manufactured booth. Please provide additional
details and specifications for this booth?
A. The Prefabricated Booth shall meet MBTA Design Standards, achieve ADA compliance, and be
of nominal size 6’-0” W by 8’-0” L by 8’-0” H. Specification Section 13129,
PREFABRICATED BOOTHS has been added. Refer to the Contract Specifications section
of this Addendum.
Q-3
Specification section 14210 Electric Traction Elevators Paragraph 1.9 Quality Assurance
References “Buy American” please confirm this should read “Buy America”. “Buy
America” is listed everywhere else in the specifications.
A. Correct. Article 1.9, QUALITY ASSURANCE, Paragraph C will be revised with reference to
“Buy America” provisions not “Buy American” provisions. Refer to the Contract Specifications
section of this Addendum.
Q-4
Specification Section 05721 Ornamental Railing Assemblies calls for a Satin #6 polished
finish on the Gates, Railings, & Fences. It will be nearly impossible to repair any scratches
or damage in a number #6 finish in the field. We recommend using the standard #4 finish
which can be more easily repaired in case any damage occurs during installation or in the
future.
A. A #4 polished finish will be allowed for the Gates, Railings and Fences of the Ornamental Railing
Assemblies. Refer to the Contract Specifications section of this Addendum.
Q-5
Note E on sheet S-4204 “THE STRUCTURAL CAPACITY OF THE CHAMBER LEVEL
SLAB SHALL NOT BE EXCEED” What is the structural capacity of the chamber level
slab?
A. The intent of the Note E on sheet S-4204 “THE STRUCTURAL CAPACITY OF THE
CHAMBER LEVEL SLAB SHALL NOT BE EXCEEDED” is to stress that the temporary
support design is to pick up the concentrated loads from Orange Line slab and distribute them all
the way down to the Red Line North Passageway foundation slab (see S-4204). Contractor shall
not support these loads solely by the Chamber Level slab without additional support below. The
contractor shall submit the proposed temporary support system to the Engineer for approval.
