Wherever water is used for
DUST SUPPRESSION in
Mines / CHP / Power / Steel / Cement
‘hmc Conflow’ products can be found’
The main areas of use is :1. Dust Suppression
2. Fire Fighting
Dust Suppression
• Why needed:
- airborne coal dust, when mixed with gas / air in the presence of a naked
flame, is very dangerous and can causes an explosion.
- DUST is a health hazard
- Supress dust to prevent it becoming airborne
• What is needed: Essential Dust Suppression Requirements
Water supply available in the plants / CHP to suppress the DUST
FILTRATION-PUMPS-REGULATOR-PIPELINE-SPRAYBARS-NOZZLE
SPRAY ACTIVATION (manual / auto ) (mechanical / electrical)
CONTROL PANEL (DOL – VFD) / Auto mode selection
• Where located:
– Primary unloading (wagon tippler / Track Hopper / Truck unloading)
– Conveyor belt transfer points
– Stock Piles
Dust Suppression System
Fundamentals
ƒ Dust prevention – Humidity/moisture content in the material
is increased to prevent dust from becoming airborne
ƒ Dust suppression – Humidity/moisture content in the
material is added to the air to capture dust particles that are
already airborne
ƒ Dust returned to the product stream with correct wetting to
minimise any product problems
ƒ Poor quality water can be minimised by filtration to reduce
water contamination
ƒ Water conservation is controlled by the system being
activated only when conveyors are running under load
conditions
Dust Suppression System
Standard Practice
Using a minimal amount
of water
ƒ Water spray requires a high volume of
moisture for dust suppression
ƒ The addition of moisture can be costly
ƒ Plain water added at 5% of the material
weight requires 27,852 –139,260 kj of
energy to dry the product to acceptable
level
ƒ Fine spray added at 0.1% of the
material weight requires 279-1393 kj of
energy to dry the product to acceptable
level
ƒ The use of fine & controlled dust
spraying systems reduces the likelihood
of a thermal penalty being imposed on
coal operators
Amount of moisture added to
percent of material weight
Dust Suppression System
Standard Practice
ƒSpray points at the chute and on the belt run
ƒSpray patterns designed to not directly infringe
upon any surface
ƒSprays mounted in order to minimise the
exposure to a heavy laden dust air stream. This
avoids erosion of spray nozzle components
ƒSpray patterns generated so all fugitive
emissions are forced to pass through the fine
spray blanket

STOCKPILE DS SYSTEM
(SPDS)
Sprinkler Features
™Roadway & Stock Pile Dust Suppression for overburden haulage
roadway & Coal stockyards has become a necessity in mining
/power project across the world.
™Sprinkler dust suppression system is actually spraying water
pumped through a long pipe work giving an effect of natural rainfall
required in a particular area with the help of Sprinklers / RAINGUNS
available in various discharge capacity & throw angles.
™System prevents liftoff of dust from stockpiles and roadways.
Water spray over the stock-pile area is produced by sufficient
number of sprinklers suitably installed in a ring to cover the entire
projected area of the stock pile / roads.
™The Sprinklers are swiveling type with the provision of change in
the swiveling angle & height, as well as spray nozzle angle. (Various
model available) The sprinklers break up the water into small
droplets simulating natural rainfall.
Eagle Sprinklers
™Raingun ES-65 PC Sprinkler:
ES-65 PC Raingun of impulse drive type have 2½” inch BSP female
threaded connection, housing made from die cast all alloy to IS-617
GR-4652, blade: cast steel to IS 1030 ideally suitable for dust
suppression applications.
Raingun are free from Ball Bearing, Gear or Cam and free from
periodic maintenance requirements such as oiling, greasing,
alignment and / or replacements. Raingun must have a radius range
of 42 meters and flow range from 3.8 LPS with 2.0 to 4.5 kg/cm2
operating pressure respectively.
Twin 95 Sprinklers
™Raingun Twin 95P Sprinkler:
Twin Raingun 95 P of impulse drive type have 2 inch BSP female
threaded connection, housing made from wear resistant cast
aluminum, ideally suitable for dust suppression applications.
Raingun are free from Ball Bearing, Gear or Cam and free from
periodic maintenance requirements such as oiling, greasing,
alignment and / or replacements. Raingun must have a radius range
of 27 to 54 meters and flow range from 2.6 LPS to 15.6 LPS with 2.0
to 6.5 kg/cm2 operating pressure respectively.
