Toyota Immobilizer
TYPE 1
ALL Toyota TYPE 1 use what the industry refers to as a 4C transponder chip in
the keys.
The same 4C chip can be programmed into the car as a MASTER or as a VALET
key.
A key that is programmed as a VALET cannot be used to introduce more keys
into the system with the MVP or T-Code.
How to tell if a programmed key is a MASTER or a VALET?
Valet key- when first inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will stay on for 2
seconds and then stay off.
Master key- when inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will not illuminate at
all.
TYPE 1 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
RESET Immobilizer:
This function allows you to erase all keys and to place the immobilizer in the “Auto
Learn Mode”. This function is used when the customer has lost all their keys.
ADD MASTER KEY:
This function allows you to add a Master key to the car’s immobilizer system as long as
you have an existing pre-programmed Master key to start with. On Type 1 system cars
it is possible to program a key in as Valet as a Master
ADD VALET KEY:
This function allows you to add a Valet key to the car’s immobilizer system as long as
you have an existing pre-programmed Master key to start with. The vehicle’s immobilizer system cannot tell the difference between the transponder chip in the key,
so it is possible to program a Master as a Valet into the immobilizer system.
ERASE KEYS:
This function allows you to erase all keys except the key in the ignition lock at the time.

Toyota Immobilizer
TYPE 2
Use the KEY LOOK UP GUIDE to determine proper key blanks to use.
There are various aftermarket version of these keys you can use.
When in doubt check with the dealer for the exact part number
for the key.
ALL Toyota TYPE 2 use what the industry refers to as a 4D transponder chip in the keys.
Factory 4D chips can come in two varieties MASTER and VALET.
Factory keys with grey plastic heads have a VALET type & chip cannot be used to perform a
RESET or to introduce more keys into the system with the MVP or T-Code.
How to tell if a programmed key is a MASTER or a VALET?
Valet key- when first inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will stay on for 2 seconds and then stay off.
Master key- when inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will not illuminate at all.
TYPE 2 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
“QUICK” RESET Immobilizer: (“NEW” Available on Type 2 Immobilizer)
This function allows you to erase all keys and to place the immobilizer in “Auto Learn Mode”
instantly without having to go thru the 16 or 30 minute security delay found on the older regular Reset. This function is used when the customer has lost all their Master keys.
“REGULAR” RESET Immobilizer: (Old way of resetting with security delay, now replaced
with QUICK RESET) This function allows you to erase all keys and to place the immobilizer
in the “Auto Learn Mode”. This function is used when the customer has lost all their Master
keys and the Quick Reset can’t be used (See Below)
In some cases it maybe necessary to use the old timed access reset because sometimes the
quick reset will only let you program TWO keys and no more than that. (Rare, but possible)
PROGRAM KEY: This function allows you to add a Master key to the car’s immobilizer system as long as you have an existing pre-programmed Master key to start with.
ERASE KEYS: This function allows you to erase all keys except the key in the ignition lock
at the time.

Troubleshooting:
Problem: After a Reset, the car starts and runs but the theft light blinks.
Solution: The car is still in “learn mode” close the learning cycle by turning the ignition ON/OFF quickly at least
6-8 times until the light goes out.
Problem: Program key goes all the way thru to a successful conclusion with no errors but the car cranks and
does not start.
Solution: Barring any other problems (low fuel, failed components etc) the car key memory may be full. Meaning
8 keys are already programmed and no more can be added. Use ERASE KEYS with a MASTER KEY and this
will ERASE all keys except the 1 Master Key used. Now go back and use PROGRAM KEY to add any other keys
you want to program.

These are just a few examples shown for 2007 models. For later
years there are quite a few different part numbers some interchangeable and some not!
Used Toyota/Lexus Proximity key warning!

There is a work around trick that will usually allow you to program in an already used Prox.
1. Perform an Immobilizer reset introducing the used key first.
2. Once you have the used key programmed and working use PROGRAM PROX

Brand new keys from a reputable dealer is what we recommend.

Cross Interference:
It has been our experience that on occasion there can be cross signal interference when 2 or more Prox remotes are in the

Weak Prox Batteries:
Also, when using NEW Prox remotes if they get a failure it can be because the battery in the Prox is slightly weak from
sitting around in the parts dept. and may not program in until the Prox battery is changed.

How to find the
System Type on 2010-11
Some models use the new dealer “G” transponder key and some don’t. It is possible to have 2 identical
cars side by side and one still on the older key and one on the “G” key.
Even looking the vehicle up by the VIN can give you the wrong key.
If the customer already has a working key that has the letter “G” stamped on the blade, than another “G”
key will work fine. If not follow the steps below.
There is only 1 way to tell for sure. This is for 2010 & 2011 models.
Before cutting the transponder key - insert a mechanical key in the ignition and turn to the On position.
Go to “RESET Immobilizer” and see if you can communicate with “TYPE 4” - If you can than is NOT a
“G” key vehicle.
Toyota TYPE 4 systems are not “G” transponder key vehicles. They are second generation 4D systems.
Toyota TYPE 5 systems are “G” transponder key vehicles.
Plug into the car and see which system communicates

General info
NEW “G” Transponder for 2010-2013 Toyota Keys
Toyota has released a new transponder chip for
2010 & up. This new TI chip has new “locked”
encryption to prevent cloning.
G
It has been seen in our experience that only
a Dealer Key will program reliably for these
vehicles!
There may be “after-market” versions
of these “G” keys available however at
this time we recommend using Toyota
only OEM keys.
Especially, if you are using MVP Pro
because “after-market” keys do not
always program in successfully.
From what we have seen, OEM keys
program successfully every time.
Special note for 2010 FJ Cruiser:
Some 2010 FJ Cruiser’s do not support an immobilizer reset.
On these affected vehicles the immo box must be replaced.
Affected vehicles where made BEFORE Vin #’s JTEZU4BF#AK010121 &
JTEBU4BF#AK088229. these vehicles will FAIL on Immo Reset attempt using PRO or
Dealer tools. This only effects FJ Cruiser and no other models.

Toyota Immobilizer
TYPE 5 (G Key System)
ALL Toyota TYPE 5 use what the industry refers to as a “G” transponder chip in the keys.
Factory “G” chips can come in two varieties MASTER and VALET.
TYPE 5 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
RESET Immobilizer: This function erases all keys and programs in 1 Master Key.
This function is used when the customer has lost all their Master keys. (Takes Approx.16
minutes)
PROGRAM KEY: This function allows you to add a Master or a Valet key to the car’s immobilizer system as long as you have an existing pre-programmed Master key to start with.
ERASE KEYS: This function allows you to erase all keys except the key in the ignition lock
at the time.
Program Master Key: This function is on the TYPE 5 menu for only one purpose. It is there
only for when for some reason a RESET Immobilizer procedure has been partially completed
but was for whatever reason (drivers door shut halfway thru or wrong transponder key used)
a Master Key was not programmed in successfully.
In cases like this the Immobilizer has already been Reset, so you need to be able to perform
this function separately because if you try and start off with Reset Immobilizer the procedure
will fail because the Immobilizer has already been Reset.
Program Master Key can only be used for this purpose. Do not use it unless you have the
situation described above.

RESET Immobilizer - TYPE 5
(Use this method if you have no Master Keys.)
The procedure for 2010-2013 “G” Key system is very different from earlier TOYOTA LEXUS.
You cannot “Learn” (program) new keys as you did before by cycling the keys in the ignition.
After performing the “RESET
Immobilizer” procedure - remove the key from the ignition.
Insert the first key to be programmed when asked to do so by machine.
This must be a Master key, not a Valet (grey) key.
After the first Master key is “Learned”, each key must be
programmed separately.
For additional keys use the “PROGRAM KEYS” procedure.

sitting around in the parts dept. and may not program in until the Prox battery is changed.

Necessary Steps to Successful Programming:
1)Must Have Orange Dongle “M”.
2)Must Have MVP Pro or TCODE Pro with ADS-150 software.
3)Read and Follow these Instructions.
4)There is no difference in the programming procedure for cars
with Smart Access Proximity and cars without.
5)Models that do not have Smart Access require the Remote Fob to be in the Learning Slot to start the car, always.
6)It is recommended to only use new Fobs. Fobs from other
cars and used Fobs from “who knows where” are not advised
because of problems programming them into the Wireless ECU.
7)The maximum number of programmed Fobs is 4.

This makes it easy to tell by just looking at the car which FOB
to use.
The different Fobs shown above are NOT interchangeable.
Models with the Smart Access Proximity system have a
“Lock-Out” button on the bottom of the dash, below the steering

Programming Overview
Programming Fob keys on ‘04-’09 Prius is a TWO STEP procedure.
STEP #1- Program the Immobilizer so that the FOB starts the vehicle.
STEP #2- Program the wireless functions so that the RKE buttons on the FOB lock and unlock the vehicle and if it’s a Smart Access model, the Fob will allow the car to start without
inserting the fob in the slot.
TYPE 2 IMMOBILIZER SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
QUICK RESET Immobilizer: (“NEW” Available on Type 2 Immobilizer)
This function allows you to erase all Fobs and to place the immobilizer in “Auto Learn Mode”
instantly without having to go thru the 16 or 30 minute security delay found on the older regular Reset. On Prius this function is used when the customer has lost all their Fobs and you
want to program 1 or 2 Keys.
RESET Immobilizer: (Old way of resetting with security delay, now replaced with QUICK
RESET).
This function allows you to erase all keys and to place the immobilizer in the “Auto Learn
Mode”. This function is used when the customer has lost all their Fobs and you want to program in more than 2 keys (up to 4 Max.)
NOTE: The quick reset can be used if
you only want to program in 1 or 2 Fobs.
However, on Prius the quick reset will only
allow TWO keys to be programmed.
PROGRAM KEY: This function allows you to add a Fob to the car’s immobilizer system as
long as you have an existing pre-programmed Fob to start with.
ERASE KEYS: This function allows you to erase all Fobs except the key in the ignition lock at
the time.
Note: These functions ONLY pertain to the cars immobilizer the RKE and or Prox functions
are completely separate. (Step #2)
The Security Theft
light is located in the
instrument cluster.

If you have no
existing programmed Fobs.
Follow the two step procedure
on the next page.
Used Prius Fob Key Warning!
Fob keys that are not BRAND NEW cannot be simply ADDED.
There is a work around trick that will usually allow you to program in an already used Prox.
1. Perform an Immobilizer reset introducing the used key first.
2. Once you have the used key programmed and working use PROGRAM PROX
to add back in the original working Prox key(s).
3. On 2004-2009 Prius a Proximity Type5 RESET ECU function must also be performed and the used Fob’s RKE added
in 1st, then any pre-exisitng keys added back in 2nd.
MVP users take note: The above method may not always work 100%.
Brand new keys from a reputable dealer is what we recommend.
These program in 100% without issue.

STEP #2 if you have no Working Prox Fobs
(Programs the Remote/Prox functions on the Prox)
IMPORTANT TRICK TO TURN THE CAR ON AND STILL HAVE THE PROX IN YOUR HANDS:
To program the wireless (RKE) we need to trick the car into thinking there is a Prox in slot so we can
turn on the vehicle without the Prox actually being in the slot.
The idea is to have the car turned ON but to have the Prox in your hands so you can easily push the
RKE buttons when necessary.
Here's how it's done; Put the Prox all the way in the slot, then step on the brake, pull the Prox out
just a bit (this is done using very little force) until you hear a click, then press the start button.
Now that the car is on (you should see the dash light up) and you can remove the Prox from the
slot.
Note-because we stepped on the brake and the car is ON the vehicle’s gas engine will come
on if the voltage gets near 12 Volts or less and so you don't have to worry about having low
power in the battery or using jumper cables because the car will charge itself.

Prius ‘04-’09 Trouble Shooting
Common Problems with Programming Fobs into Prius models:
• Used or worn out Fob -
a Check the status of the Fob trying to be programmed. • Is it new? • Was it from
another car? • Has it stopped working and now the customer wants it programmed
again? • There is a battery in it that might need replacing. • Some just wear out and
must be replaced with a new one. Brand new remote’s will always program, unless
of course, there is something actually wrong with the car.
• Either one of the 2 steps did not complete successfully. a Have you checked to see whether the fobs were programmed into the
immobilizer system. The Security Theft is out when there is a Fob in the Learning
Slot? It may be necessary to close the immobilizer cycle manually. Put a already
programmed Fob in the Learning Slot and press the Start button 5 times ON and
Off. This should close the cycle manually. • Remember the car can hold only 4 Fobs
into memory, it may be necessary to erase if you are trying to only Add a Fob into
memory.
NOTE: Quick reset Immobilizer on Prius will only allow TWO keys
to be programmed.
Use a Regular Reset if all keys are lost and you want to program

• The Smart Access Fobs have programmed successfully but the car does unlock when I try from the outside.
a The “Lock Out” switch (under the steering column) has been depressed and is in
Lock Out mode.
• The Smart Access Fobs have programmed successfully but the car
will not Start unless I insert the Fob into the Learning Slot.
a Check the “Lock Out” switch (under the steering column) and see if it has been depressed and is in Lock Out mode. Next, does the car actually have Smart Access?
If there are no Rubber Push Buttons on the front outside door handles - there is no
Smart Access on this car. Therefore there is no Proximity system, just a simple
wireless system to lock and unlock the doors. You must insert the Fob into the
Learning Slot to Start and drive the car.
• The ABS & VSC light stays on or Flashes and the car will not move.
a Follow the procedure on the next page to reset the ABS dash lights. This is
triggered when not using the correct dongle while the Pro is connected to the car.
Programming using the M dongle will NOT cause this problem.

NEW “H” Transponder for 2010-2013 Toyota Keys
Toyota has released a new transponder chip for
2013 Rav-4 & 2014 Corolla. This new chip has
80-Bit encryption to prevent cloning.
The new key can be easily identified by the H
stamped on the blade
“H” KEY SYSTEMS
Program using:
TOYOTA IMMO TYPE 6
Just like on earlier Toyota systems factory keys with grey plastic heads are VALET keys &
cannot be used to perform a RESET or to introduce more keys into the system with the MVP
or T-Code.
How to tell if a programmed key is a MASTER or a VALET?
Valet key- when first inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will stay on for 2 seconds and then stay off.
Master key- when inserted into the ignition lock, the Security Light will not illuminate at all.
TYPE 6 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
RESET Immobilizer: This function erases all keys and programs in 1 Master Key.
This function is used when the customer has lost all their Master keys. (Takes Approx.16
minutes)
PROGRAM KEY: This function allows you to add a Master or a Valet key to the car’s immobilizer system as long as you have an existing pre-programmed Master key to start with.
ERASE KEYS: This function allows you to erase all keys except the key in the ignition lock
at the time.
Program Master Key: This function is on the TYPE 6 menu for only one purpose. It is there
only for when for some reason a RESET Immobilizer procedure has been partially completed
but was for whatever reason (drivers door shut halfway thru or wrong transponder key used)
a Master Key was not programmed in successfully.
