MA11 - Portable Alarm Installation and Operating Instructions These instructions should be retained in a safe place for future reference. Kit Contents: 1 x Alarm Unit with belt clip 1 x Siren Plug 1 x Fixing Pack, (inc Wall Mounting Clip, Webbing Strap, Belt Clasp) 1 x Instruction Leaflet Tools and Equipment Required: No.0 and No.1 Philips Screwdrivers 3 x 1.5V AAA ( LR03) Alkaline Batteries SAFETY Always follow the manufacturers advice when using power tools; steps, ladders etc. and wear suitable protective equipment (e.g. safety goggles) when drilling holes etc. Before drilling holes in walls, check for hidden cables and pipes, the use of a cable/pipe locater may be advisable if in doubt. The use of ear protection is advisable when working in close proximity to the Siren due to the high sound level produced by this device. All components are suitable for mounting in dry interior locations only. INTRODUCTION The Portable Alarm is a battery powered multi-functional alarm. The system has 2 operating modes: ALARM and CHIME. The Chime Mode is a low security facility used to notify you when the device is activated by producing a door-chime sound. In alarm mode the device will produce a constant high volume alarm sound. A dual Personal Attack function enables the alarm to be activated at any time in the event of a personal threat or danger, (except in CHIME mode when only the keypad will trigger the Personal Attack Alarm). Siren Indicator LED Removing the Belt Clip: The belt clip can be removed by turning the screw slot to a vertical position to release it from the alarm body. Refitting is by the reverse procedure. The mounting bracket can be mounted in position using the screws or adhesive pads supplied. The alarm then fixes to the mounting bracket using the belt clip. Note: In CHIME mode the cord operated PA Attack feature will only produce a chime sound and not a full siren alarm. Strap Mounting: It is recommended that the User Access code is always changed form the default setting of 1 2 3 4 . The webbing strap can be used to attach the alarm to portable objects, (e.g. bags cases etc) by threading the strap behind and through the slots in the belt clip. This is easier if the belt clip is removed from the alarm. Changing User Access Code: To change the code: 1) Press , to ensure the alarm is disarmed. 2) Press . 3) Enter the current access code, the LED will flash once. 4) Enter a new 4 digit User Access Code. The LED will flash once to indicate that the new code has been accepted. Operating in the CHIME Mode: To activate CHIME mode: press , The alarm will produce a doorchime type sound each time the vibration sensor is triggered or if the Panic cord is removed from the device. Pressing the and buttons together will trigger the Personal Attack/Panic alarm and activate the siren. If activated, the alarm siren will automatically stop after 60s and the alarm will continue to operate in CHIME mode. Alternatively the siren can be stopped early and the alarm returned to standby mode by entering the 4 digit User Access Code. The LED indicator will start flashing, the flashing will continue until the 10s exit-delay expires, at which point the Alarm will be armed. If the vibration sensor is triggered the LED indicator will start flashing. This continues until the entry-delay expires when the siren will activate. The entry-delay allows time for you to DISARM the alarm before the siren activates. If activated, the alarm siren will automatically stop after 60s and the alarm will continue to operate in ALARM mode. Alternatively the siren can be stopped early and the alarm returned to standby mode by entering the 4 digit User Access Code. Adjusting the sensitivity of the Vibration Sensor: The sensitivity of the vibration sensor may be adjusted using the slide switch on the side of the alarm. Slider Position UP HIGH - smaller amount of vibration /movement required to trigger sensor DOWN LOW - larger amount of vibration /movement required to trigger sensor Press , to exit CHIME mode and retur n to standby. Operating in the ALARM Mode: To activate ALARM mode: press , Sensitivity Changing the Entry Delay Period: TESTING The ALARM mode entry-delay period can be changed to 3, 6 or 12s. The entry-delay can only be changed when the alarm is in STANDBY. With the alarm in STANDBY mode: a) Press , set the entry delay period to 3s. b) Press , set the entry delay period to 6s. c) Press , set the entry delay period to 12s. Personal Attack/Panic Alarm: In the event of threat or danger the alarm can immediately be activated at any time (except in CHIME mode) by either: a) Pressing the and buttons together, or b) Removing the pin from the alarm by pulling the trigger cord. Note: In CHIME mode the Cord operated PA Attack feature will only produce a chime sound and not a full siren alarm. It is recommended that the alarm is tested at regular intervals. 1) Remove the Panic Attack cord to trigger the siren. 2) Enter the User Access Code to stop the siren. 3) Press , CHIME mode. to activate 4) Tap the alarm to trigger the vibration sensor. The alarm will produce the chime alert tone. 5) Press , to activate ALARM mode and wait for the exit-delay period to expire and the LED to stop flashing. 6) Tap the alarm to trigger the vibration sensor. the LED will start flashing, after the entrydelay has expired the siren will activate. 7) Enter the User Access Code to stop the siren and return to standby. Note: A cloth can be used to cover the siren and reduce the sound output of the alarm during testing. MAINTENANCE The product may be cleaned with a soft damp cloth and then wiped dry. Do not use abrasive, solvent based or aerosol cleaners as this may damage and/or discolour the product. Do not allow water to enter or attempt to clean inside the unit. Fitting and Replacing Batteries: Batteries: 2) The belt clip can be removed by turning the screw slot to a vertical position to release it for the alarm. Remove batteries before storing the Alarm for extended periods. Do not allow batteries to corrode and leak as this may cause permanent damage to the product. Low Battery Warning: Indicator LED stays ON after a key is pressed Replacement Batteries: 3 x AAA (LR03) Alkaline Batteries Typical Life: up to 1 year Do not mix new and old batteries or different types of batteries. Do not fit rechargeable batteries. At the end of their useful life the batteries should be disposed of via a suitable Recycling Centre. Do not dispose of with your normal household waste. DO NOT BURN. 1) To prevent the alarm activating while changing or fitting the batteries, press , to switch the alarm into STANDBY mode. 3) Remove battery cover fixing screw and slide off battery cover. 4) Fit 3 x 1.5V AAA (LR03) Alkaline batteries observing the correct polarity and fit into the battery compartment. 5) Refit the battery cover and replace the fixing screw and belt clip (if required). Note: When new batteries are fitted the User Access Code will reset to the default of 1 2 3 4 and will need changing to your own code. GUARANTEE Novar ED&S undertakes to replace or repair at its discretion goods (excluding non rechargeable batteries) should they become defective within 2 years solely as a result of faulty materials and workmanship. Understandably if the product has not been installed, operated or maintained in accordance with the instructions, has not been used appropriately or if any attempt has been made to rectify, dismantle or alter the product in any way the guarantee will be invalidated. The guarantee states Novar ED&S entire liability. It does not extend to cover consequential loss or damage or installation costs arising from the defective product. This guarantee does not in any way affect the statutory or other rights of a consumer and applies to products installed within the UK and Eire only. If an item develops a fault within the first year, it should be returned to the point of sale with: 1) Proof of purchase. 2) A full description of the fault. 3) All relevant batteries (disconnected).
