Mirandy Li (Nephrology) and Daniel Kikuchi (Cardiology) Ms. Li, under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Hoover, won the First Place Poster Award at this month’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program Research Symposium. Mr. Kikuchi, under the mentorship of Dr. Kathy Griendling, received honorable mention. Awardees were selected based on their research and presentations to a panel of judges. Michael Hart and Roy Sutliff (Pulmonology) Drs. Hart and Sutliff received competitive renewal funding for their NIH R01 proposal entitled, “PPAR gamma and Nox4 in pulmonary hypertension.” David Stephens (Infectious Diseases) Dr. Stephens has been named a new member of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Greg Martin (Pulmonology) Dr. Martin was recently appointed to an international advisory committee from NIH to provide guidance and input for a new NHLBI critical care clinical trials network known as "PETAL,” or Prevention and Early Treatment of Acute Lung injury. He is the only committee member from the US. Charles Searles Jr., Arshed Quyyumi (Cardiology) Drs. Searles and Quyyumi are project principal investigators on a new American Heart Association (AHA) center at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). The center is part of AHA's Strategically Focused Research Network on Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease; researchers in this center will be exploring differences and needed improvements in treating culturally diverse patients. Visit meeting page Submit an event to be featured here Back to Top Highlighted Researcher Gloria Torres Rivera DVM, PhD (Cardiology) Dr. Torres Rivera is a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Cardiology whose research focuses on vascular biology. She is particularly interested in studying the metabolic changes in vascular smooth muscles cells associated with vascular diseases. She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry and Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine degrees in University of Chile. For her PhD thesis, she studied mitochondrial dynamics and metabolism in vascular smooth muscle cells. In her free time, Dr. Torres Rivera likes to go trekking with her husband and dogs.
