Special Announcement
NEW DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS FOR ACTIVE AND
CORRESPONDING MEMBERSHIP IN THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATON FOR
CANCER RESEARCH
Beginning in 1990, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will establish three
new deadlines for the submission of applications for Active and Corresponding Membership: March
1, July 1, and October 1 of each year. The purpose of this change is to provide an additional
opportunity each year for the submission of applications and to decrease the amount of time between
deadline dates. Except for the change in deadline dates, the qualifications and procedures for
submission of applications remain the same as do the benefits and responsibilities of membership.
Application forms that show the previous deadlines (August and December) may still be used, but the
new deadline dates (March 1, July 1, and October 1) should be observed. If the deadline falls on a
weekend, applications will be accepted on the following Monday. Applications received by each
deadline will be submitted to the appropriate membership committee for review and then to the Board
of Directors for election. Candidates will be notified according to the following schedule:

will be eligible to sponsor an abstract for the next annual meeting. Every effort will be made to afford
the same opportunity to applicants elected in December.

PERSPECTIVES
IN CANCER RESEARCH
Oncogenes, natural killer cells, breast cancer treatment modalities,
colon cancer, and retroviruses, including their relationship to AIDS,
are among the topics of current interest featured in Collected Perspec
tives in Cancer Research: 1986-1987. Containing the twenty-two arti
cles published as "Perspectives in Cancer Research" in Volumes 46 and
47 of the journal Cancer Research, the compilation presents the insights
and interpretations of recognized authorities in the study of cancer.
Each article explores contemporary and sometimes controversial areas
of investigation, analyzing recent progress in cancer research and offer
ing ideas on where such research should be heading. This collection of
incisive and stimulating viewpoints will serve as a valuable resource and
teaching tool for the cancer research community. Copies of this publi
cation may be ordered from the Subscription Fulfillment Department,
Waverly Press, Inc., P.O. Box 64473, Baltimore, Maryland 212640473, at a price of $9.00 per copy. Orders outside the U.S. add S2.00/
