Superintendent Transportation
Oversight of all Transportation Department functions for entire statewide regional rail
network including train dispatching and line of road operations, two classification yards,
two marine terminals, export coal operations, unit gravel operations, crew staffing, safety
and rules training and enforcement, customer service, and car inventory management.
 Responsible for $40 million operating budget, more than 3000 annual road train starts
including intermodal, unit train, mixed freight, and passenger operations.
 Supervise staff of 13 managers including director, management, and supervisory
levels, as well as over 200 bargaining unit employees represented by three different
unions.
 Completely restructured operating management team, led effort to implement
written bulletins and standard operating practices for terminal operations, led major
redesign of yard operations to four ten hour day standard yard schedule vs.
traditional five-eight schedule in conjunction with ratification of new UTU Collective
Bargaining Agreement.
 Lead design and implementation of automated operating metrics that led to industry
best system velocity and initial terminal departures from our two key terminals (30
MPH and 37 min ITD respectively).
Director Terminal Operations
Direct planning and strategic operation of the Anchorage Terminal (ARRC’s system
operating hub) Manage yard switching operations and supervise 6-8 yard starts per day
and staff of 6 trainmasters and 40-60 train and enginemen.
 Implemented electronic tracking of yard crew overtime and penalty expenses leading
to direct reduction of annual budgeted terminal expenses by $500K between 2007
and 2011.

Union Pacific Railroad
Manager Terminal Operations Salt Lake City, UT
Supervise daily operation in Salt Lake Terminal, manage yard switching operations and
supervise flow of 40-50 run through trains per day, supervise two managers and
hundreds of train, engine, & yard personnel.
 2005 Graduate of exclusive Union Pacific Leadership Development Program: one of
only 14 employees on entire UP system selected for a yearlong leadership and
personal development seminars culminating with the execution of a major project
that was presented to the president and senior management of the corporation.
Manager Yard Operations Avondale, LA
Supervise daily operation of New Orleans Terminal, manage 5 to 8 yard jobs per shift and
30 road trains per day, processing over 1400 cars per day. Supervise all aspects of the
operation with a particular focus on safety and rules compliance. Special projects
included refining train schedules and work orders, coordinating sale of industrial trackage
to a shortline operator, and implementing computerized work order reporting system for
industry jobs.

Run daily operation at Oliver Yard Terminal. Coordinate inbound and outbound road
trains, monitor employee safety and rule compliance, work with various other Class One
and shortline carriers within Terminal District to coordinate fluid movement of rail traffic
through interchange, teach safety and rules classes, handle customer concerns,
investigate and handle all derailments, crossing accidents, and/or other extraordinary
occurrences.
