“In the AS8510 from AMS… current is measured through a 100µΩ
Manganin shunt, an extremely precise and stable resistor,” AMS says,
“The AS8510 can offer typical accuracy of 0.2% over the full automotive
temperature range, input range and lifetime.”

Bitrode will be at The Battery Show to give an exclusive insight into how
it has achieved a 300% improvement in the rise time of its family of pack
testers. Bitrode says the move will allow its entire product line of FTF
laboratory pack testing systems “to more accurately model real-life demand”
on customer products under test.
Coupled electrochemical and
thermal models
The development is in response to the “evolving needs of the electric vehicle
and energy storage industry,” says the Missouri-based firm.
Bitrode says, “In the battery industry, a reduced
rise time is important as it provides the battery
chemist, pack designer or testing laboratory
with the ability to aggressively test battery
pack and product designs to performance
levels expected to be seen in actual use.
“The transition time for the
current to ramp from 10% to 90%
of full scale in a Bitrode FTF
has been decreased dramatically
from approximately 15
milliseconds (ms) to less than
4ms. Similarly, the 0-100%
transition time is also reduced
from approximately 15ms
to less than 8ms with no
over-shoot.”
Bitrode’s FTF product engineer
Shawn Dickinson says that the
increased rise time, together
with the firm’s earlier release of its
high-power FTF-HP, “demonstrate
our commitment to provide
innovative industry-leading solutions
for the electric vehicle and energy
storage industries”.

Co-located with the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Conference and
Expo, the event draws stakeholders, thought leaders and professionals from across
the battery supply chain, as well as key verticals such as automotive, grid power and
consumer electronics.
The conference provides a holistic view of the factors driving the demand for
energy storage, and helps the industry map out its path toward aligning R&D,
strategy and investment decisions to meet future requirements.
Key questions to be addressed at this year’s conference include:
• H

applications, or will we see increased M&A activity and market consolidation?
• W

integrating distributed energy into their framework?
Jens Keiser, Senior Product Marketing Manager for
Battery Show exhibitor Maxwell Technologies, has
warned that although batteries play a critical energy
capacity role, the technology will soon be spread
“too thinly”.
Keiser says that with increasing demands for
improved fuel economy, reduced weight, and the
need to meet stricter emissions standards, auto
makers are looking at the ultracapacitor “to enable
innovative electrification solutions”.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, the event is widely acknowledged as an
unrivaled meeting place for the North American energy storage industry –
alongside the largest supply chain exhibition of its kind in North America.

Keiser says a “collaborative effort between batteries
and ultracapacitors is a viable solution for filling the
increasing power gap in automotive technology”.
