DEPARTMENTAL TITLE:
Tutor instructor 1
A Tutor Instructor 1 is responsible to and supervised by the Teacher-in-Charge, Head Teacher
or Educational Leader as appropriate.
The role of the Tutor/Instructor 1 involves a range of activities which directly and indirectly
support learning and enhance the educative process. These include the following functions
performed under the supervision or guidance of a head teacher or teacher:
1. Provide support to students to carry out tasks
2. Work in conjunction with Teachers and other roles as part of a delivery team
3. Provide tutoring support, mentoring, coaching or advice to students and clients in a
range of locations and modes to build skill and competence
4. Implement the tutoring strategy that has been developed in conjunction with the
Teacher and follow up students to encourage ongoing engagement and motivate and
encourage the students to complete their tasks and activities
5. Advise students on their subject matter and/or presentation of material
6. Provide contemporaneous feedback to students (i.e. feedback arising from relevant
class/student consultation)
7. Support Teachers and Head Teachers in meeting ASQA compliance functions
including documentation
8. Supplement the teaching activities by providing follow-up instruction and opportunities
to practice skills
9. Provide support and feedback by face-to-face contact, email, online or by other mode
using a range of media options.
10. Provide support to the department and attend meetings as required
11. Carry out administrative functions required to support the Tutor Instructor work
NOTE: This role does not prepare lessons or resources and does not deliver training nor
undertake summative assessment

2. Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct assessments, validations and
moderations in the VET environment
3. Demonstrated understanding of VET regulatory compliance requirements
4. Understanding of the content of learning materials and the processes used in the
discipline and a commitment to maintain professional currency
5. High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to be proactive
and show initiative and good organisational skills
6. Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment and a
demonstrated ability to motivate and encourage students
7. Ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a diverse range
of backgrounds and to provide quality customer service as part of a broader team

competencies; and
b. be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and
c. be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills
as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
Team approach to assessment is allowed where team has combined expertise in (a (b) and
(c)

DEPARTMENTAL TITLE:
Assessor
An Assessor is responsible to and supervised by the Teacher-in-Charge, Head Teacher or
Educational Leader as appropriate.
The role of the Assessor involves a range of activities which directly and indirectly support
learning and enhance the educative process. An Assessor may:
1. As part of a team including a teacher or head teacher, design, validate and carry
out assessments and moderations. This may be in any environment, including
workplace, community or TAFE campus and may be face to face or via distance
2. Implement an assessment strategy that has been developed in conjunction with the
Teacher
3. Develop and carry out independent assessments
4. Identify gaps that may require further training by teachers
5. Support Teachers and Head Teachers in meeting ASQA compliance functions
including documentation
6. Work in conjunction with Teachers and other roles as part of a delivery team
7. Identify and handle with sensitivity the differing needs and requirements of the
candidates, the local enterprise/s and / or industry
8. Carry out necessary administrative and compliance work associated with
assessment, validations and moderations
9. Motivate and encourage the candidates to complete their tasks and activities
10. Provide support to the department and attend meetings as required

a. hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training
and Assessment Training Package as a minimum qualification or be able to demonstrate
equivalence of competencies; and
b. be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and
assessed; and

c. be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and
skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and trainer/ assessor competence.

DEPARTMENTAL TITLE:
Tutor Instructor 2
A Tutor Instructor 2 is responsible to and supervised by the Teacher-in-Charge Head Teacher
or Educational Leader as appropriate.
The role of the Tutor/Instructor 2 involves a range of activities which directly and indirectly
support learning and enhance the educative process in the delivery of enterprise based
contracts. These include:
1. Deliver pre-designed training programs and facilitate skill development, enabling
students to achieve their desired outcomes in enterprise-based settings and modes.
2. Support Teachers and Head Teachers in meeting all facets of ASQA compliance
3. Provide support and guidance to students to carry out tasks and understand their
learning materials and concepts
4. Work closely with Teachers, and other roles as part of a delivery team
5. Directly and indirectly support quality skills development using program resources and
learning materials developed by teachers. These activities may include providing
training in any environment or setting for enterprise based contracts
6. Using established tools as part of the learning program, provide student feedback on
skills development, undertake formative and summative assessment of learning
outcomes, and engage in assessment validation and moderation activities as required
7. Provide feedback to teachers about learner experiences
8. Contribute to section completions rates by providing support and feedback to students
through face-to-face contact, phone follow up, email, online or by other mode using a
range of media options.
9. Undertake a range of duties as part of an enterprise-based contract and under the
supervision and direction of a Teacher in Charge, Head Teacher or Educational Leader
to assist the team including, but not limited to:




updating and documenting compliance requirements
student selection, enrolment and administration;
support and advice to clients;
industry and community liaison and promotion;

undertaking training and professional development for themselves;
attendance at staff meetings;
recognition of prior learning;
workplace consultancy and advisory services;
skills analysis and audit;
10. Provide support to the section and attend meetings as required
NOTE: The role does not design learning programs; it uses existing resources and does not
develop course, curriculum or program resources and learning materials. Nor does it
undertake research.

SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Appropriate technical or professional qualifications, and vocational and/or industrial
experience, to be able to teach in one of the principal areas managed by the
Educational Leader. See Note 1.
2. Educational qualification at Diploma in TAE or above and post graduate qualification
relating to an Educational Specialisation such as assessment & evaluation; higher
education; technology; flexible learning; VET Pedagogy, or, a vocational qualification
at diploma or above in the relevant industry discipline (eg Diploma Building &
Construction). See Note 2.
3. Demonstrated high level educational leadership capabilities in VET teaching, learning
and assessment practice
4. Demonstrated current knowledge and skills in a relevant industry, discipline.
professional practices and technologies
5. Established and effective current links to industry and the community including
demonstrated record of building and developing strategic networks, partnerships and
alliances and a demonstrated ability to identify, plan and implement relevant courses
and services
6. High level understanding of current issues relating to the VET and/or higher
education sector including policies and legislation and a demonstrated capacity to
lead and develop a team of professional staff members and to undertake initiatives
and incorporate successful outcomes into the teaching and learning environment
7. Demonstrated experience in an educational environment at both a strategic and
operational level with sound administrative skills, and ability to plan, manage and
monitor financial, human and physical resources and experience in setting work
priorities, problem solving and meeting deadlines in a high workload environment.
8. Demonstrated sound interpersonal, negotiation and teamwork skills and a proven
commitment to quality customer service and high level written and oral
communication skills in English.

Note 1:
Current entry requirements for discipline
1.
To be considered for appointment to an Educational Leader the person must
possess:
i)
Appropriate technical or professional qualifications and vocational/industrial
experience as determined necessary by the Institute and as a minimum
complying with the relevant regulatory requirements. The person must also
possess an educational qualification at Diploma in TAE or above, and
demonstrate continued professional and leadership development; and,
ii)
Post graduate qualification relating to an Educational Specialisation such
as assessment & evaluation; higher education; technology; flexible
learning; VET Pedagogy, or,
iii)
Vocational qualification at diploma or above in the relevant industry
discipline (e.g. Diploma Building & Construction)
Note 2:
Teacher Education Qualification Requirements
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or demonstrated equivalent competencies is the
minimum teaching requirement. Other educational qualifications may be recognised upon
application.
Degrees and Graduate Diplomas in Vocational Education, post 1998 may include the
Certificate IV competencies, depending on the educational institution. However,
qualifications prior to this date in most cases will not include these competencies.

1. Provides active, innovative leadership across the educational process at a college,
faculty or institute level by guiding and enhancing the professional competence,
educational standards, and program delivery to enable students to better achieve their
outcomes
2. Is responsible for driving change, improvements and innovation in educational practice,
application of technology, and professional development and support
3. May be required to teach from time to time, but has not allocated teaching load
4. Performs a senior educational leadership role for a faculty, several faculties, college,
campus or Institute. This may include some or all of the following, dependant on
business needs:
4.1 Working closely in conjunction with Head Teachers to lead the formation of best
practice in delivery teams
4.2 Leads the repositioning of course offerings and developing teacher capabilities to
meet challenges of significant new markets particularly across faculty lines
4.3 Leads a number of sections across different campuses or leading a large section
where there may be or have been a number of head teachers
4.4 Acts as Discipline Expert to liaise with specified industry, plan a suite of new
courses and develop capabilities to deliver
