Thechargingportislocatednexttothepower
switch.ThemalemicroBendoftheprovided
whitechargingcordisconnectedtothisport.
Theotherendofthechargingcordcanbe
connectedtoafemaleUSBportthatprovidespower,suchasacomputerorthroughthe
providedACadapter.
WhenthedeviceischarginganaddiLonalyellowlightwillilluminatenexttothegreenpower
lightindicaLngthatitischarging.Theyellowlightwillturnoffleavingonlythegreenpowerlight
whenitisfullycharged.
AblackneoprenecaseisprovidedtoassistinaOachingandsecuringtheCamRanger.Thecase
hasacarabineertofacilitatehangingfromatripod,beltloop,etc.Donotjusthangthe
CamRangerbythecableasitwillputstrainontheUSBconnectorsaswellaspossibly
disconnect.
TheCamRangerbaOeryisaccessiblebyremovingtheboOomcover.
TheboOomcoveristhesidewiththeCamRangerserialnumber.Simplygraspthesideedge/
cornerofthecoverneartheUSBconnectorandpullbacktoremove.Toreplacethecover,first
placethetwolowertabsintotheslotsandthensnapinthetop.

Pressthe“Register”buOontoregister.AmessageboxwillappearindicaLngregistraLonwas
successfulandtheiOSdevicecanbeusedwiththeCamRanger.Exittheappandthenproceed
withthesetupprocessasdetailedbelowintheCamRangerSetupsecLon.
IfregistraLonfails,confirmInternetconnecLvityandtheCamRangerserialnumberbefore

CamRangerSetup
PowerontheCamRangerandconfirmthatallfourlightsbrieflyappear.TheCamRangerwill
takeapproximately30secondsunLlitisfullyiniLalized.
ThefirstLmetheuserconnectstoCamRangerfromaniOSdevice(iPad,iPhone,oriPodTouch),
theiOSdeviceneedstoberegistered.SeetheCamRangerRegistraLonsecLonabove.
OntheiOSdeviceconnecttoyourCamRangernetwork.TheSSIDwillbeCamRanger-###,with
thelastthreecharactersmatchingthelast3charactersoftheCamRanger’sserialnumber.The
passwordisthefull8charactersoftheCamRanger’sserialnumber.ThepasswordMUSTBE
ENTEREDINALLCAPS.ThekeyboardonneweriOSversionscanbeputintocapslockbydouble
tappingtheshifkey.
ConnecttheCamRangertothecamerawiththeprovidedblackUSBcable.ThemaleAendis
insertedintotheUSBportattheendoftheCamRanger,andtheotherendisconnectedtothe
USBportofthecamera.Thenensurethecameraisturnedon.Whenthecameraisconnected
andturnedonthegreenlightclosesttotheedgeoftheCamRangerdevicewilllight.
LaunchtheCamRangeriOSapp.TheapplicaLonwillconnecttotheCamRangerandtheuser
willbeabletocontrolthecamera.
ForcommonproblemswithsetupandconnecLonrefertotheTroubleshooLngsecLonatthe
endofthemanual.
FirmwareUpdate
ItisrecommendedtochecktheiOSappandfirmwareversionbeforeusingtheCamRangerto
ensuretheyarethelatestversion.Theappmustbeatleast2.0andthefirmwareversion6to
supportnetworkbridging,sharingfeatures,ortheCamRangerPTHubandMP-360(orMP101,
Bescor,orHague).ToupdatetheCamRangerfirmware,visitcamranger.com/downloadsfor
furtherinstrucLonsonupdate.

Asimagesarecaptured,thethumbnailsareautomaLcallydownloadedanddisplayed
alongthetopofthescreen.Thethumbnailsmaybescrolledlefandrightwhenmore
aredownloadedthancanfit.
Athumbnailmaybeselectedtoviewthecorrespondingimageforviewing.Theimageis
downloadedanddisplayedinthemainimageview.Thecurrentlyselectedthumbnailis
indicatedwithayellowoutline.
WhenbothaJPGandRAWfileformatiscaptured,onlytheJPGthumbnailisdisplayed.
JPGandRAWfilescanbeviewed.NikonTIFFfileswilldisplaythethumbnailbutthe
associatedimagecannotbeviewed.ItshouldbenotedthattheNikonRAWfilessimply
showsacompressedJPGversion.However,iftheimageissaveditwillsavethefullNEF
file.
Asmallred“R”icononthelowerrightofthethumbnailindicatesthatitisaRAWimage.
Asmallgreen“T”indicatesTIFF,whilenoiconisusedtoindicateJPGformaOedimages.
Note:onlythumbnailsforimagescapturedwithinthecurrentCamRangersessionwillbe
displayed.
iPhoneThumbnails
ThethumbnailsontheiPhonesoriPodToucheswiththeoriginalsizedisplay(nottheiPhone5
sizedisplay)aredisplayedinadifferentmanner.Aferapictureistaken,themainimageview
willslidedowntorevealalistofthumbnails.SelecLngathumbnailwillslidethemainimage
viewbackinplacewiththedownloadedimage.
ThethumbnailandmainimageviewscanbeswappedatanyLmebyswipingthescreenupor
down.
MainImageView
Liveviewandcapturedimagesaredisplayedwithinthemainimageview.
CapturedImages
Imageswillbedisplayedinthemainimageviewinoneoftwoways,byselecLngathumbnailin
thethumbnailssecLonorthroughtheAuto-Viewfeature.TheAuto-Viewfeatureisdescribedin
moredepthintheAdvancedSejngssecLon.
Itisimportanttonotethatthatimagesdisplayedinthemainviewarenotsavedbydefaultand
aresimplybeingdisplayed.TosavetheimagetotheiOSdevice,refertotheCurrentImage
ControlsorCardContentssecLon.
Theimagemaybezoomedinto100%resoluLonbydoubletapping.Theimagecanthenbe
pannedbydraggingafinger.Doubletappingagainwillreturntheviewtoitsoriginalstate.

DependingontheamountofmemoryinyouriPad,iPhone,oriPodtouch,certainlargerimage
filescannotbeviewed.Deviceswith1GBofmemory,suchasthe3rdor4thgeneraLoniPadand
theiPhone5,willhavenolimitaLons.Deviceswith512MBofmemory,suchasthe2nd
generaLoniPad,iPadMini,oriPhone4,canviewnearlyallimagesexceptfortheverylargest,
suchasalargeJPGontheD800.Deviceswith128MB,suchasthe1stgeneraLoniPadandolder
iPhonesandiPodTouches,willnotbeabletoviewlargeJPGsonmostcamerasormediumJPGs
onsomecameras.
Whenviewinganimage,afingerswipeontheimagetotheleforrightwilldisplaytheprevious
ornextimagerespecLvely.BypressingtwofingersonanimageandrotaLng90degreeseither
direcLon,theimagecanberotated.
SLllimagesviewedwithinthemainviewcanbecorrectedaccordingtoanX-Ritecolor
calibraLon.SeetheColorCalibra2onsecLonformoreinformaLon.
LiveViewImages
Inliveview,theimageisautomaLcallyupdatedasliveviewimagesstreamin.Theexactrateis
verymuchdependentonWiFisignalstrengthandthecameraandiOSdevicespecs.However,
assumingagoodconnecLon,liveviewframeratewillbeabout7–18fpsdependingonthe
cameramodel.
Duringliveviewtheimagemaybesingletappedtofocusatthatpoint,alsoknownas
performinga“touchfocus.”NotethatforCanoncameras,theouteredgesoftheimagecannot
befocusedon.Doubletappingwillzoominanddoubletappingagainreturnstoregularsize.
AliveviewhistogrammaybetoggledonorofffromtheDatatabasdescribedintheAdvanced
DatasecLon.Togglingthehistogramonwillgenerateahistogramforeachliveviewframe;
however,atthecostofadecreasedframerate.Togglethehistogramofftomaximizetheframe
rate.
Canoncamerascandisplaytheliveviewimageonthecameraaswellasallowphysically
triggeringimagesbypressingthecamera’sliveviewbuOona3erstarLngitontheCamRanger
app.NikoncamerasdonotallowanycontrolofthephysicalcamerawhileliveviewisacLve.
AdvancedTabs
TherearefourtabsprovidingadvancedinformaLonorcontrols:Data,Focus,Timer,andHDR.

ThedatatabshowsanRGBhistogramandmeta-dataassociatedwiththeimageinthemain

Thefocustabisonlyenabledduringliveviewandprovidesadvancedfocusingcontrols.

FocusStacking
o FocusstackingisaprocessoftakingmulLplecaptureswithslightchangesin
focusandthenpostprocessingthemtoenhancethedepthoffield.Thiscontrol
allowstheusertosettheincrementalfocusstepsizebetweenineachshotand
thenumberofshotstotake.Eachfocusstepwillmovethefocalplanefurther
fromthecamera.Sotheuserwillwanttosetthefocustothenearestplane
desiredtobeinfocusandstartthestackingprocessfromthere.Iftoofew
capturesweretaken,theprocesscanberestartedfromwheretheiniLalstacking
ended.Asgeneralrule,largestepsizesaregoodforlandscapes,mediumfor
mostmacrowork,andsmallforhighlymagnifiedmacroscenesand/orlowf-stop
values.Note:thepostprocessingisnotdonewithintheCamRangerapp.
TimerTab
TheLmertaballowstheuseoftheCamRangerasanintervalometeraswellasspecifying
exposureLmeswhenthecameraisinbulbmode.

o TheentryfieldsareusedtospecifytheiniLaldelaybeforethefirstshot,the
numberofshotstotake,andthedelayinbetweeneachshot.

The“HDR”,orAdvancedBrackeLng,tabcanbeusedtogenerateaseriesofphotoswithvarying
exposures.
• AdvancedBrackeLngisonlyenabledwhenthecameraisinManualmode.
• ThePropertyfieldspecifiesthecamerapropertytobevaried.TherearethreeopLons,
ShuOerSpeed,Aperture,andISO.
• TheIniLalDelayfieldspecifiestheamountofdelay,ifany,totakebeforebeginningthe
brackeLngsequence.
• TheiniLalvaluefortheselectedpropertyissetwiththeStartValuefield.
• ThetotalnumberofimagestocaptureisspecifiedbytheNumberofShotsfield.
• ThepossibleStepSizevaluesareupto3stopandspecifythehowmanystopstovary
theexposurebetweeneachcapture.
o Typicallythestepsizevaluesareinincrementsof1/3stops.However,thiscan
varybasedonthecamerasejngs.Forexampleifthecameraisconfiguredto
onlyallowISOvaluescorrespondingtofullstops,thenthestepsizeincrement
willbe1stop.

ThevalidvaluesfortheNumberofShotsareautomaLcallydeterminedbasedonthe
valuesspecifiedforStartValueandStepSize.Forexampleastepsizeof1/3stopswill

(lowestexposure),mid-point,orhighlights(highestexposure).IfthestarLngpointisset

AfertheHDRprocessiscomplete,thepropertybeingadjustedwillbesettotheStart
Value.
Ifthecameraissettobulbmodeandbulbshotsaresupported,abulbHDRsequence
canbeperformed.
o TheStartValuefieldwillbeusedtoenterinanumberofmillisecondsforthe
startvalue,correspondingtothelengthofLmetheshuOerwillbeopen.
o TheminimumpermiOedshuOerduraLonis100milliseconds.Thenumberof
shotswillautomaLcallyupdatetopreventthis100millisecondminimumfrom
beingexceeded.

PressingthebrackeLngbuOonwilldisplaythefollowingcontrol:
PressingthearrowsatthetoprightandlefmovestheexposurecompensaLon.Holdingdown
thearrowwillmovetheexposurecompensaLontoitsrespecLvelimit.ThetwobuOonsatthe
boOommiddlecontrolthebracketamount.PressingthearrowspoinLnginwillreducethe
brackeLngamount,whilepressingthearrowspointoutwardwillincreasethebrackeLng
amount.
ThebrackeLngisnotsetunLlthe“Set”buOonispressed.The“Close”buOonwilldismissthe

imagecaptureasexpected.Itshouldbenotedthatforsomecameras,advanced
modessuchasremoteorLmerwillbehaveassinglecapturemode.
