The division into so-called safety classes, also termed SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is performed in accordance with IEC standard 61508. In total there are four levels. The higher the SIL level, the greater the risk for the people and the higher the safetyrelated requirements on the technology to be used in the building. In the normal case, buildings are given the classification SIL 1 or SIL 2. Correspondingly, the technical systems used to protect people must be demonstrated to comply with the requirements of Safety Integrity Level 1 or 2. The requirements to be met are described in IEC 61508 and corresponding checks can be performed by authorised test institutes. Here it is to be noted that the technology used must comply with the corresponding safety class (see section 1); this means that so-called safety relays or safety PLCs must be used. Considerable attention must also be paid to the power supply for the drives, as a failure will prevent correct function. Due to the related high costs and wiring effort, there exists demand for a so-called bus solution. Smoke extraction controller with TroxNetCom AS-Interface Trox smoke extraction dampers in the EK-01 series with 24 Vdc actuators can be controlled via bus cables with the aid of TroxNetCom AS-interface and AS-i safety components, and connected to superordinate DDC/BMS systems without problems. Communication and control of all users takes place over bus cables. TroxNetCom AS-interface has been tested by TÜV and approved up to Safety Integrity Level 2. Smoke extraction systems are used to protect people in a building. They must ensure that rooms and corridors are kept free of smoke so that, in case of fire, people can leave the building safely and the fire brigade has a clear view for fire fighting. Smoke extraction systems have separate fire-protected ducts, motorised smoke extraction dampers, and smoke extraction fans. In the normal case, the smoke extraction dampers are closed and the smoke extraction fan is switched off. In case of fire, the smoke extraction fan is in operation and the smoke extraction damper in the area where smoke is to be extracted is opened. All other smoke extraction dampers are not affected and remain in the closed position. The motorised actuators for the smoke extraction dampers are so-called 3-point drives without a safety position, i. e. unlike fire dampers, these dampers do not move to a defined safety position in the case of a power failure or other fault. The reason for this situation is that it must be ensured in case of fire that not all smoke extraction dampers move simultaneously to the open position, as otherwise the performance of the smoke extraction fan will be insufficient to free the area affected by the fire of smoke. In the approvals for the smoke extraction dampers, it has been defined that the control function for opening and closing the dampers must be assured for 25 minutes during a fire. Due to this fact, the actuator is fitted in an L 90 enclosure and the cabling must be suitable for retaining the function. Up to now control systems for smoke extraction dampers were frequently of conventional design, i.e. starting from a central control cabinet each smoke extraction damper is wired in a star topology and controlled via corresponding relays or contactor circuits. System layout: The layout comprises: AS-i controller AS-i power supply 24 Vdc power supply AS-i safety monitor (1-channel) TNC-A001S AS-i safety input module TNC-A005S AS-i standard module AS-EM/B The actuators do not need an external 24 Vac power supply, but are supplied via the AS-i module AS-EM/B with 24 Vdc from AS-i. The actuators are connected using the 1-wire control, i. e. one phase is always live (corresponds to damper safety setting open or closed, depending on the system), the second phase is switched and moves the damper to the opposite position. The actuators are switched via digital outputs in the AS-i standard modules AS-EM/B. The end positions of the smoke extraction dampers are monitored by the AS-i safety monitor TNC-A001S. If a data collision or a fault occurs, then, via a safe output, the AS-i safety monitor TNC-A001S applies a signal to a digital input in the standard module AS-EM/B and in this way moves the smoke extraction dampers to the previously defined safe state. 1 Design changes reserved · All rights reserved © Gebrüder Trox GmbH (3/2002) The end positions “Open” and “Closed” for a smoke extraction damper are switched at the AS-i safety input module TNC-A005S. Here the normally closed contacts on the actuator are used to provide wire break monitoring. The relationships and processes necessary for smoke extraction can be programmed in the AS-i controller, which is in a central location. The facility for interfacing to superordinate DDC/BMS systems enables all messages to be displayed and the controller to be accessed from a superordinate level. Advantages: – TÜV tested, approved up to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 in accordance with IEC 61508 – No additional power supply required – Only a 2-core bus cable – Smoke extraction control on-site in decentral controller units – Interfacing to superordinate DDC/BMS systems possible – Maximum data safety up to data integrity class I3 – Global standard AS-interface IEC 62026-2 General Layout AS-i Power supply z.
