General description:
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE) is established in 1951 and is one of the basic faculties at the
Technical University of Sofia. There are 35 professors and associate professors, 24 assistant professors,
10 engineers and 7 technical staff. In the FEE 1009 full-time students, 353 part-time students and 54 PhD
students are being trained. The academic staff of the faculty takes part also in student training of six basic
faculties, as well as of three foreign language departments. 85 doctoral dissertations have been defended
at the faculty.
Structure – five departments:
•
Electrical Machines – Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Sotirov
•
Electrical Apparatus – Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasil-Mario Piperov
•
Electrical Power Engineering – Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peter Nakov
•
Electrical Supply, Electrical Equipment and Electrical Transport – head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sider
Siderov
•
General Electrical Engineering – Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyuben Pavlov
Degree programmes:
FEE trains students for obtaining Bachelor and Master Degrees on the specialties “ELECTRICAL
ENGINEERING” and “ELECTRICAL POWER ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT”.
Education forms: full-time, part-time
General characteristics of the education:
Š•lectrical engineer from Faculty of ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING executes, organizes and controls
project, design, technological, production, testing, assembly, diagnostic and repair work in the field of the
electrical systems and facilities (including development and use of technical, economic, standardizing,
patent and other kinds of documentation), economic, commercial and training work in the same field, as
well as executes, organizes and controls work in the field of generation, distribution, consumption and
conversion of electrical energy in other kinds of energy and vice versa.
International cooperation:
FEE keeps international contacts mainly within the framework of the contacts, connections and contracts
of the Technical University of Sofia. International contacts have been established with universities from
Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia
and Montenegro, Turkey, Ukraine and others.
FEE takes part in TEMPUS programme and SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme for exchanging
students and lecturers as well as in thematic networks.
Some current research projects:
The academic staff in FEE carries out research in wide range in the area of Electrical Machines and
Apparatus, Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Supply, Electrical Equipment and Electrical
Transport. Some of the research fields are: Numerical methods for field problems, Inverse problems
and optimal design, Electrical machines with electronic control, Renewable energy sources,
Synchronous hydrogenerators and their excitation, Estimation of basic resource of cables, Nondestructive testing. Some of the current projects: Network for study of severe failures, Study for safety
of VVR reactors (Assoc Prof. Dr. Ivan Ivanov), Static exciting system of small power hydrogenerator
(Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiril Zaharinov, kzach@tu-sofia.bg)
