This is a Dynamic Challenge in which teams have to Design, Build and Compete their custom built GoKarts through various Obstacles to be the Split Second Karting-E Champion of the season. As Motorsports is the pioneer of Automobile Sector, a lot of newly developed technologies are emerging to provide vehicles of higher performance and stability in day to day operation. Thus, we take this opportunity to promote Motorsports in India, because Go- Karting is commonly perceived as the stepping stones to the higher ranks of Motorsports. As we believe in the fundamentals of Motorsports, our primary focus will be on the holy trio of Speed, Stability and Safety. History of Go-Kart: Go-Kart was born in United States in 1950’s. Go-Kart is a driving and racing miniature, skeleton frame, and rear engine Automobile. Go-Kart was a non popular sport previously, but today it has become one of the most popular sports in various age groups. Now-a-days, racing Go-Karts are considered as one of the most economic activities where a large number of people can participate and have a taste of motor racing. Go-Kart Racing: Motorsport activities such as Formula 1, Nascar, Moto Gp and many more are out of reach of the general population because of stringent rules and regulations as well as the atmospheric budget of race teams. But apparently Go-Kart is a form of Motorsport which gives an opportunity to public for getting involved in legal racing with the advantage of affordability and no restricted age. LEO MOTORSPORTS – SPLIT SECOND KARTING – E 2016 4 Seven times FORMULA 1 World Champion, Michael Schumacher started his involvement in Motorsports with Go-Karting. He joined Go-Kart Motorsport and won his first Go-Kart Championship when he was 19 years old. Go-Karting in India: JK Tyre introduced Go-Karting in the country way back in 1997 and patronized tracks in seven cities all across India. In 2000, the company for the first time introduced the JK Tyre National 4-Stroke Karting Championship in 6 cities with one Grand Finale. This became the landmark of Indian Go-Karting and became the talking point of all Motorsport enthusiasts in the country. Objectives of the Championship: This experience helps in enhancing students practical skills in various activities like: Designing, Fabricating, Testing, Raising funds and Market survey. Students have an Opportunity to Experiment and Enhance their Engineering Skills on the prototype using it as a test bed. Students will be given an opportunity of having a real time Business Proposal for their small scale Automobile Manufacturing Industry. Students can learn team management as the project involves a lot of team work. This gives students an opportunity to think out of the box and be more creative, as they are supposed to compete their prototype with other teams following the rules and regulations set by Split Second Karting-E. This is an excellent platform to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering and practical ingenuity. LEO MOTORSPORTS – SPLIT SECOND KARTING – E 2016 5 Objectives of Split Second Karting –E: Teams will have to use Electric Motor to run their Go-Kart. This will help them face real-time engineering challenges. Our focus is to develop interest among the students towards alternative power sources, as they are the future of Automobiles. This step leads to a Green Planet with the following advantages: Energy Security: As Petroleum is a limited resource, an electric car takes this worry away because it doesn’t depend on gasoline at all. Less Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Carbon and sulfur emissions are eliminated altogether in electric cars. Reducing toxic emissions means cleaner air and a healthier environment. Power Efficiency: Materials used in eco-friendly cars weight less than traditional ones, meaning they maneuver and handle easier. Because they run on electricity, they can operate and function well at any speed. Electric cars are quite in comparison to petroleum powered engines and have lower maintenance. All these advantages lead towards a better alternative for a energy efficient future worth exploring by the young minds of today.
