Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) (Electrical Engineering-Communication)
from University Technology Malaysia as the best student.
My PhD thesis focused on the design a Unified Spectrum Handoff (USH) scheme for
CR-MANETs. This handoff scheme considers the spectrum heterogeneity and its
variation over time and space. Firstly, spectrum mobility and channel availability in CRMANETs are formulated and characterized analytically. The effects of various events on
the channel availability in CR-MANETs are explored. Markov chains are then used to
model the evolution of the network which takes into account PU activity, node position,
node speed, and channel transmission range. To improve further USH, Pre-emptive
Unified Spectrum Handoff (PUSH) algorithm is proposed in which two different preemptive handoff threshold regions were introduced and defined. The pre-emptive
channel handoff is performed when the PU activity is sensed or when the transmission
range of the current channel cannot support the communication link. A pre-emptive local
flow handoff is performed when spectrum handoff cannot be carried out due to the SUs
mobility. The PUSH algorithm also predicts the cognitive link availability and estimates
the maximum link availability time considering the PU interference boundary.

My M. Eng. thesis focused on a novel approach for the design of microwave circuits
using Adaptive Network Fuzzy Inference Optimizer (ANFIO). The method takes
advantage of direct synthesis of subsections of the amplifier using very fast and
accurate ANFIO models based on exact simulations using ADS. A mapping from course
space to fine space known as space mapping is also used. The proposed synthesis
approach takes into account the noise and scattering parameters due to parasitic
elements to achieve optimal results.
