Introduction
This documents the general steps for:
• Preparing for a time change on a network with a Unity device listed above
• Steps to initiate a time change on the CARESCAPE Network (CARESCAPE Network and Unity Network
may be used interchangeably throughout this document)
• Steps for the monitoring the success of time changes
• Additional notes
1. Preparing for a time change on the Unity Network
The following steps and actions that help ensure that the configuration and settings for the Central Stations
are correct should be performed prior to any attempts to change the time on the Unity Network.
1a.Identification of the Unity Network Time Master
The Unity network should be examined to ensure that the Unity devices on the network recognize only
one (1) device as the Time Master. The following steps can be done at any Central Station (CARESCAPE)
a) Select the button: Setup CIC
b) Select the tab: Service Password
c) Type in the following password: mms_com
d) In the displayed command window, type the following command:
lw -s TIME
e) Verify that only one device (e.g., Central) reports as having the Service(s) of being a “Time” master
If more than one device is listed as Time Master as the result of the previous command, then these
systems should be noted and the situation resolved before a time change is sent out on the Unity
Network. Contact GE Healthcare technical support before continuing.
1b. Confirm software version of CARESCAPE CIC Pro serving as the
Time Master
Using the CARESCAPE device identified as the Time Master for the Unity Network, ensure that that
system is the latest release of software relative to all Central Stations that are installed at the
customer site.
If this is not the case, then the MC IP address for the various systems should be changed/modified
such that the Central Station that is the Time Master is the latest version of Central Station software.
Address this issue per the Pre-Configuration Instructions in the Service Manual (2026419-002F).
1c. Central station assessment of time zone and daylight settings
The Central Stations should be assessed to ensure that all CARESCAPE CIC Pro central stations on the
Unity Network are:
• Configured to be in the same time zone
• NOT enabled for Automatic Daylight Savings Time
NOTE
For all versions of the Central Stations refer to the Pre-Configuration Instructions in the Service Manual
(2026419-002F). Any CARESCAPE CIC Pro identified not to have the same time zone or have the
Automatic Daylight Savings time selected must be rectified before a time change is sent out on the
Unity Network. This must include a full reboot of all Central Stations whose configuration has changed.
If there are no 5.0.x Central Stations at the customer site, then refer to the specific Service Manual
provided for determining the status of time zone and selection status of Automatic Daylight Savings
Time.
NOTE-Loss of Historical Data
When advancing the time on the Unity Network, there will be a “gap” in the available historical patient
data (e.g., Full Disclosure). When the time is moved backwards, one hour of historical patient data
previously collected will be lost. Refer to the Service Manual for the product for more information.
2. Initiation of network time change
2A. Confirm the proper configuration settings for the Central Stations
See section 1c above
2B. Confirm the identity of the Time Master for the Unity Network
See section 1a above
2C. Perform the CARESCAPE Network time change from a hardwired monitor (Dash,
Solar, etc.)
Refer to the specific bedside monitor Service Manual for instructions. If no hardwired monitor is present,
then proceed to make the network time change at the CARESCAPE CIC Pro serving as the Time Masteridentified at step 2a above. (Refer to the attached service manual.)
NOTE: No more than one (1) time change on the Unity Network should occur within a five (5) minute time
frame.
NOTE: During this process, all manual time changes on the Unity Network should be performed on the
same Unity device.
3. Monitor for successful time change
3A. Confirmation of successful time change
It is important that the time change that was made successfully updated the time on devices on the Unity
Network.
1.
Did a time change occur correctly on a Unity device other than the Time Master and the device the
time change was initiated from?
2. Is the time on the Time Master correct?
3. Do the observed times from the two devices match and are the updated time?
4. Is the time observed at the Unity device updating correctly over a 5 minute time period?
If the answer to all the above questions is “yes” then no further actions are required. If you answered “no”
to any of the questions please proceed to 3B.
3B. Assessment indicates that time was not successfully updated
Time did not get updated on the Unity Network appropriately. The following steps should be taken:
• Wait 5 minutes
• Go to the same Unity device that was used previously to imitate the time change
• Repeat the steps found in Section 2 & 3 of this document
• If time change is unsuccessful after 3 attempts, please contact GE Customer Support or aGE Field
Service Representative for assistance (details below).
