LIMELITE BACKING PLASTER Product Data Sheet LIMELITE BACKING PLASTER LIMELITE PLASTER PRODUCTS LIMELITE BACKING PLASTER Typical Performance Identification Technical Data for Limelite Backing Plaster Pre-blended and dry-bagged, Limelite Backing Plaster is designed to provide a lightweight plastering system having similar working properties to a traditional 1:1:6 cement:lime:sand plaster, but with a reduced bulk density. For high suction backgrounds Limelite Backing Plaster with X ADDs’ should be used. Dry powder density 600 kg/m3 Density air dried 800 kg/m3 Density oven dried 725 kg/m3 Compressive strength at 28 days 3.0 N/mm2 Flexural Strength at 28 days 1.4 N/mm2 Modulus of Elasticity 2,100 N/mm2 Appearance as supplied Fine grey powder Appearance after application (dried) Light grey keyed finish Thermal conductivity (k) at 0% moisture by volume 0.13 W/m°C Thermal conductivity (k) at 3% moisture by volume 0.21 W/m°C Thermal resistance (R) at 13mm and 3% moisture by volume 0.058 m2 °C/W Authority Refer to BS 6100–9, Building and civil engineering. Vocabulary. Work with concrete and plaster. Use in accordance with recommendations in BS EN 13914-2 (Design, preparation and application of external rendering and internal plastering. Design considerations and essential principles for internal plastering), BS EN 13914-1:2005 Design, preparation and application of external rendering and internal plastering. External rendering and BS 8481, (Design, preparation and application of internal gypsum, cement, cement and lime plastering systems). Description Composition and manufacture Limelite Backing Plaster is manufactured under strictly controlled conditions to ensure consistency. The plaster is manufactured from ordinary Portland cement, hydrated lime, Perlite lightweight aggregate and workability aids. Man-made fibres are incorporated in to the mix to control shrinkage and improve flexural strength. Fire Resistance Limelite Backing Plaster is non-combustible as defined in BS 476 : Part 4, and can be designated Class O in accordance with the requirements of the National Building Regulations for use as a surface finishing material. Applications For plastering most traditional backgrounds particularly where surface hardness, resistance to efflorescence and early decoration are important. Limelite Backing Plaster with ‘X ADDS’ should be used on high suction backgrounds. Limelite Backing Plaster has a controlled setting time, does not segregate and can be spray applied. As a comparison below are typical results for a 1 : 1 : 6 Mortar Technical Data for 1 : 1 : 6 Mortar Dry powder density 2000 kg/m3 Density air dried 1900 kg/m3 Density oven dried 1850 kg/m3 Compressive strength at 28 days 3.5 N/mm2 Flexural Strength at 28 days 1.0 N/mm2 Modulus of Elasticity 12,400 N/mm2 Thermal conductivity (k) at 0% moisture by volume 0.61 W/m°C Thermal conductivity (k) at 3% moisture by volume 0.97 W/m°C Thermal resistance (R) at 13mm and 3% moisture by volume 0.015 m2 °C/W Thermal data above is obtained from CIBSE A3 Guide : Thermal Properties of Building Structures.
