Product Overview
29-5100
The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System is designed to treat surfaces
contaminated with pathogens. Typical applications include hospital rooms, operating
suites, emergency rooms, patient waiting rooms, isolation wards, public restrooms,
nurse’s stations, staff break rooms, locker rooms, clean rooms, laboratory rooms, and
food preparation areas.
Please note that the Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System should be used as a
supplement – not as a replacement – to standard terminal cleaning protocols. Please
follow your facility’s manual room cleaning and disinfection protocols before using a UV
device, and consult CDC, SHEA and APIC guidelines for additional steps to take as a
part of a bundled approach.
ATTENTION
PROPER USE OF THIS DEVICE IS CRITICAL IN YIELDING DESIRED
TREATMENT RESULTS. THE UV-C TREATMENT RESULTS ACHIEVED
ARE SUBJECT TO VARIATION IN APPLICATION CONDITIONS.
CLOROX HEALTHCARE RECOMMENDS CULTURE TESTS TO
CONFIRM DESIRED OUTCOMES.
The device emits UV-C energy in a full circle, or 360 degrees, to deliver a programmed
dose of UV light for treating a room’s target surfaces. Using the Clorox Healthcare™
Optimum-UV™ System does not require special room preparation – simply expose
target surfaces to the device prior to starting the room treatment cycle.
It should be noted that because the Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System utilizes
“line-of-sight” UV technology, target surface(s) must be directly exposed to the device’s
UV energy. UV energy will not penetrate materials such as paper, soil, cloth, plastic,
ordinary glass or spills. After completion of the treatment cycle, the room may be
immediately occupied. The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System does not
generate any harmful byproducts, nor does it leave any residual substances.
Ultraviolet light kills microorganisms via short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (UV-C).
The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System produces UV-C at a wavelength of
approximately 254 nm, inactivating the microorganisms’ DNA.

Step 1: Install Maximum Output UV-C Lamps
Lamp Information
The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System is equipped with four (4) maximum
output UV-C lamps. Each lamp is completely encapsulated in a protective polymer
sleeve. The protective polymer sleeve provides safety in the event of lamp breakage by
fully containing the content inside. The protective polymer sleeve is highly transmissible
to UV-C light and does not affect performance of the device.
UV lamps supplied with the Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System are factory
tested to ensure proper UV-C intensity. Each lamp has a serialized label on the lamp
end cap with pins, which verifies the testing process has been completed.
Lamp Orientation
Each lamp has a brown label on the black end caps. When installing the lamp, please
ensure that the brown label faces in towards the mast. Correct orientation is shown in
picture below.

Room Treatment Protocols
29-5100
The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System should be used as a supplement – not
as a replacement – to standard cleaning and disinfection protocols. Please follow your
facility’s manual room cleaning and disinfection protocols before using a UV device, and
consult CDC, SHEA and APIC guidelines for additional steps to take as a part of a
bundled approach.
Once you have completed your standard cleaning and disinfection protocols,
please deploy the Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System.
Step 1: Post Warning Sign and Position Clorox Healthcare™ OptimumUV™ System
IMPORTANT
IF OPERATOR DOES NOT EXIT ROOM WITHIN 30 SECONDS, UNIT
WILL FAIL TO BEGIN TREATMENT CYCLE DUE TO MOTION
DETECTOR SHUTDOWN. PUSH START BUTTON AGAIN TO REINITIATE THE CYCLE.
Affix the warning sign on the door to indicate “DO NOT ENTER” during the room
treatment cycle. Position the Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System in an
appropriate location to ensure line-of-sight exposure to the room’s target surfaces.
Ensure that all surfaces requiring treatment are exposed to the unit. Remove papers
and/or other objects that may be shadowing target surfaces. Note that if the room is
equipped with furniture, equipment and/or fixtures, it may be necessary to re-locate the
Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System and run additional cycles to ensure proper
treatment of all target surfaces in the room.
Step 2: Secure Doors
Secure doors leading into the room so that no one can enter and interrupt the treatment
cycle.
CAUTION
HIGH TEMPERATURE! DO NOT TOUCH LAMP OR MAST
Step 3: Start Cycle and Exit Room
Plug the electrical cord into the nearest electrical outlet and power up the Clorox
Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System by pressing the power switch located on the left
end of the device handle. The touch-screen display will activate and may be used to

Navigate to the ENTER UV CYCLE TIME screen to enter the UV treatment cycle time
and continue to the START/STOP/RESET screen to indicate a Room number, if
desired. Press the touch-screen START button (or initiate using the remote control) to
begin UV treatment. When START is executed, a slow, pulsing, warning beep will be
heard for 25 seconds, followed by a rapid, pulsing beep for the final 5 seconds before
the UV treatment cycle commences. The warning beep’s volume may be adjusted via
the touch-screen display. After the 30-second delay, the Clorox Healthcare™ OptimumUV™ System unit will begin its cycle and a visible blue light will be observed within 2025 seconds.
IMPORTANT
OPERATOR MUST LEAVE THE ROOM DURING ENTIRE CYCLE TIME
TO AVOID UV EXPOSURE
Step 4: Enter Room after Treatment Cycle Completes
After the treatment cycle completes, the operator may immediately enter the room.
When a cycle completes successfully, then the CYCLE COMPLETED screen will be
displayed. The Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System is now ready for the next
treatment cycle and can be moved to a new location. If the cycle is interrupted due to
device sensors detecting movement in the room, then the CYCLE INTERRUPTED screen
will be displayed. The interrupted cycle may be continued to completion or re-started by
following the touch-screen prompts.
After completion of the treatment cycle, the room may be immediately occupied. The
Clorox Healthcare™ Optimum-UV™ System does not generate any harmful byproducts,
nor does it leave any residual substances. Note that a faint, “clean” smell may be
detected in the room after the cycle. UV-C breaks down the molecules associated with
odors and unpleasant smells in the air. This results in the “clean air,” smell after the
programmed cycle. The odor’s chemical composition has been documented and
analyzed, and has been found to pose no risk.

The protective polymer sleeve is highly transmissible
to UV-C and does not affect performance of the device.
Lamp Replacement
Clorox Healthcare strongly recommends that the lamps be replaced after 4,000 hours of
use. Please contact your local Clorox Healthcare representative to order replacement
lamps. If you do not have your representative’s information, please call 1-800-234-7700.
The use of non-Clorox Healthcare lamps will void the warranty.
Note: Refer to the LAMP STATUS screen to check accumulated lamp hours for each
lamp.
UV-C lamp intensity degrades as a function of time. After 4,000 hours of use, lamp
intensity is 80% of beginning-of-life (BOL) intensity, which is the design basis for
application of proper dose to achieve desired rates. At 4,000 hours of lamp use, a
warning will appear on the START/STOP/RESET screen, advising the operator to replace
the lamp(s).
When a lamp is replaced, the lamp hours of the particular lamp should be RESET using
the screen prompts on the screen display. The LAMP STATUS screen can be accessed
via the MAIN MENU  SYSTEM INFORMATION button (as shown in Appendix B –
screen reference 5-iv). Ensure that you select RESET for the correct lamp within the
touch-screen diagram.
