Schedule Change: Formation of classes depends on sufficient enrollment.
Community Education reserves the right to revise class schedules if needed. The
information in this publication is based on conditions at printing and is subject

CEUs: The Continuing Education Unit is credit offered for vocationally related
courses. One credit is given for every 10 hours of instruction. Courses earning
CEU credits are computer, child care, health care and technical classes.
Books and Supplies: Costs are included in the registration fees unless otherwise
specified. Books are available in the Community Education Office at the first
class.
Facilities: Classes are held at Northwest Technical School unless specified
otherwise in the course description.
Enrollment: Anyone may enroll in classes. Classes arranged for younger people
will indicate an acceptable age range in the course description.
Cancellations Due to Weather: Whenever classes in the public schools are
cancelled due to weather, Community Education classes are also cancelled. All
cancellations are announced on KNIM AM 1580 or FM 97.1 radio. Or dial 660-5828311 and wait for the message on the answering machine.
Refunds: A full refund or credit will be made if (1) Community Education cancels
a class, (2) a class is full at the time your registration is received, or (3) a refund is
requested 24 hours before the first class is held. No refunds will be given after a
class meets. Refunds may require four to six weeks to process.

four hour insulin administration component certifies a medication technician to

be licensed to work in hospital emergency rooms. Accredited by the Bureau of EMS State

The objective of this class is to prepare students to be qualified as feeding assistants in
certified facilities in MO. The topics covered are based on certain lesson plans in the
“Becoming a Nurse Assistant in a Long Term Care Facility” manual, 2001 Revision. The
student does not have to be a certified nurse assistant, must be at least 18 years old, have
completed a criminal background check, and documented 2 step TB skin test shall be
provided by the student before enrollment. Confidentiality statement and a letter of
recommendation from the DON or Administrator of a long term care facility or hospital

The RNA is an expanded role for the CNA requiring special knowledge, skills and
techniques in therapeutic rehabilitation as prescribed and supervised by licensed
personnel. Students must be 18 years of age, have proof of high school diploma or GED,
Proof of six (6) months of employment as a Certified Nurse Assistant), have a mantoux 2
step Tuberculosis (TB) skin test result taken within the last twelve (12) months, and a
complete background check from your facility.

This comprehensive curriculum is designed to train participants in basic life support
and first on scene emergency care. The program meets requirements for:

*American Heart Assoc. Basic Cardiac Life Support and AED
The basic 60 hour course is in didactic and skills training. Additional classes in Auto

Registry of First Responders examinations.

Here’s an opportunity to update your driving knowledge and skills including defensive
driving techniques, handling hazardous and normal driving situations and the new traffic
laws and rules of the road. Students participating in the 4 hour class, done in one session
will learn to compensate for the physical and mental changes. Graduates will remain safer
drivers for a longer period of time. Some insurance companies provide a discount on auto
insurance with completion of this course.

According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, older adults (aged 65
years and older) should do muscle strengthening activities that involve all major muscle
groups at least two days a week. For most of us busy schedules and modern conveniences
are preventing us from meeting this recommendation. We can help! We have something
fun planned to get you up and moving. The “Stay Strong, Stay Healthy” program is coming
to Northwest Technical School. This program can help you get started on the road to
better health. The “Stay Strong, Stay Healthy” program is built on simple, strength building
exercises that will improve balance, health, and state of mind. No, it’s not strenuous
weight-lifting; you’ll start at a level that’s right for you. No one is too inactive to
participate. Building strength promotes quality of life and independence. All exercises
are done either standing or sitting; there are no floor exercises involved. All equipment
for the class will be provided.
