Energy Efficiency Program For Business
Energy Efficient Lighting Technologies
The Energy Efficiency Program for Business offers a number of
lighting upgrade options that qualify for cash incentives from DTE
Energy. In each case, these options provide both energy savings, as
well as improved performance.
Here’s a look at only some of the technologies that can save you
energy — and money:
Compact Fluorescent Lamps
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) offer an energy-efficiency replacement for traditional incandescent lamps — and can be
used in a wide range of applications: screw-in, reflector flood and high bays. They use about 75% less energy than typical
incandescent lamps and last up to six times longer.
Interior/Exterior LED Lamps
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) offer a focused, bright light ideal for both interior accent
lighting (grocery, furniture stores, etc.) and exterior applications (such as parking lots),
where they are excellent replacements for HID fixtures. They use 50-70% less energy than
typical halogen lamps.
LED Exit Lights
Another application for LED lamps are exit lights, which often get overlooked, but are on 24 hours a
day, seven days a week and are a contributing factor in electric energy usage. Converting incandescent
exit signs to LEDs will save 70-95% on exit sign energy use each year.
Induction Lamps
Ideal for high bay applications like parking lots or warehouses, induction lamps are
very long-lasting, very bright throughout the life of the lamp and are a great energy
efficient replacement for HID fixtures. Reduced maintenance costs, with less frequent
replacement, offer additional savings.
Linear Fluorescent Lamps
Traditional T12 fluorescent lamps are no longer being manufactured and incentives are
now offered only for their replacment with more energy-efficient options, such as new
High-Performance/Low-Wattage T8 or T5 lamps. Both offer superior energy performance — up to 40% energy savings — while
providing high lumen output.
T8 and T5 Fluorescent Lighting Replacing HID Fixtures
In addition to being an ideal replacement for traditional fluorescent lighting, T5HO
and T8 fixtures are ideal for high bay applications like gymnasiums, gas station
canopies or warehouses, performing better than HID, because they have lower energy
consumption, lower lumen depreciation rates, better dimming options, faster start-up
and restrike, better color rendition and reduced glare.
Other Incentive Measures
Other energy-efficient lighting options include LED Refrigerator Door Case Lighting
and Tubular Skylights — but energy-saving opportunities don’t end there: Incentives also are available for occupancy sensors,
daylight sensors and central lighting controls.
Above savings figures are based on industry average. Actual results and incentives may vary and are subject to change. Always check the application for up to date incentives.
Energy Efficiency Program For Business
About the Program
Businesses — small, medium and large — can lower their monthly utility costs by implementing a few simple energy efficiency
measures. DTE Energy’s Energy Efficiency Program for Business offers a comprehensive set of incentives for both electric and
natural gas users designed to help you invest in energy efficient technologies. Since a portion of your energy costs are a controllable
operating expense, every dollar saved can make an impact on your bottom line.
Following is a description of three ways to save:
Prescriptive Incentives
Prescriptive incentives provide predetermined cash rebates to DTE Energy’s business customers for the installation of
energy-efficient equipment, including but not limited to: lighting, controls, HVAC, refrigeration and food service equipment.
Incentives are provided for qualified improvements and equipment commonly installed in a retrofit or equipment replacement
situation.
• Prescriptive incentives are paid based on quantity, size and efficiency of the equipment.
• Incentives typically average 20% to 50% of the incremental cost.
Custom Incentives
When customers cannot find a prescriptive measure that fits their project, they can apply for custom incentives. This
program provides incentives to customers for measures installed in qualified projects that are less common or more complex
than prescriptive measures.
• Custom incentives are determined on a case-by-case basis and are paid per unit energy saved and are based on the first
year of energy savings (kWh and/or Mcf).
• Custom projects must involve a capital investment that increases energy efficiency and are NOT eligible for a Prescriptive
incentive.
New Construction and Major Renovation Incentives
When customers build new facilities, change the usage of space or add new load, new construction and major renovation
incentives are available to assist them with off-setting the cost of energy-efficient upgrades, allowing them to save on
operating costs long term. There are two categories of new construction incentives:
• The Systems Approach offers pre-determined incentives.
• The Whole Building Design Approach offers incentives based on modeling results showing that energy efficiency exceeds ASHRAE 90.1-2007 standards by at least 10%.
• Additional incentives are available for Whole Building Design modeling assistance.
