This specification covers the calibration of tools, gauges, instruments and other
examination, measuring and testing equipment used in activities affecting quality.
General
2.1
A calibrationreportshall be filled out for each calibration. It is not necessaryto fill out a
reportfor the instrumentsthat mustbe calibratedor checkedpriorto each use.
2.2
A calibration sticker shall be attached to the instrument or its container.
2.~
If the accuracyof the instrumentis outside the limits specified.the instrumentshall be
repairedand/oradjustedor discarded.
Procedures
9.1
Pressure Gauges
3.t.1
Pressure gauges shall be tested by the use of a master gauge or deadweight
tester traceable to national standards.

All gauges shall be calibrated against a standard deadweight tester or a
calibratedmastergauge. Gaugesshall be recalibratedat any time that there is
reasonto believethat they are in error.
Accuracyshall be 3% of full scale.
CalibrationFrequency:Anytime there is reasonto believethat they are in error.
32
E~miOVen T~ures
The temperature of the electrode ovens shall be checked for accuracy by use of
a master thermometer.
The master thennometershall be placed in the oven for a minimum of 15
minutes.
After 15 minutes,removemasterthermometer
and comparereadingto oven
thermometer.
Accuracy required: :t. 25°F.
CalibrationFrequency: 6 months.

Micrometers
3;~1
,
Micrometers shall be calibrated by use of blocks traceable to national standards.
The m~rornetershall be adjustedto zero beforecalibration.
3.3.3 Three readings shall be taken on each calibration block.
For 18 micrometer, use 1148, 1/28 and 3/48 gauge blocks.
For 28 micrometer, use 1.250, 1.50 and 1.75 gaugeblocks.
CalibrationFrequency:priorto use.
Prior to each use, the micrometer shall be checked against one set of gauge
blocks.
3;4
Tong Tester
Tong testers shall be calibrated with a master ammeter traceable to national
standards - accuracy 5%.
Tong testersare usuallysent out for calibration. If there is a reason to dolt>t the
accuracyof one of the meters, checkit againstanothermeter.
Calibration Frequency: 12 months.

SurveyMetem
Survey meters shall be sent to an otJtside testing firm for calibration.
Calibration Frequency: 3 months.
3.6
Densitometers
Oensitometersshall be calibrated by zero adjustment to light source and
checkingreadingagainsta densitystrip traceableto nationalstandards.
Accuracy*,.05.
CalibrationFrequency:priorto eachuse,

D[X Film Thickness tndications
Dry film thickness indicators shall be calibrated by checking the instrument
againsta standardcoupon(s)traceableto nationalstandards.
CalibrationFrequency:priorto eachuse.
3.8
Volt and Ammeter
Volt and ammetershall be calibratedwith a mastervolt and ammetertraceable
to nationalstandards- accuracy5%.
Volt and ammeterare usuallysentout for calibration. If thereis a reasonto
doubt the accuracy of the meters, check it against another meter.
CalibrationFrequency: 12 months.
~9
Thermometer
Master thermometers shall be used to check wekj rod ovens.
3.9.2 It is not necessaryto calibratea mercuryfilledthennometer.
3~9.3
~.10
Calibration Frequency: Replace when brokenor if there is reasonto question
their accuracy.
Magnetic Particte(YOke)
3.10.1 The magnetizing force of yokes shall be calibrated by determining their lifting
power.
3.10.2 Each alternatingcurrent electromagneticyoke shall have a lifting power of at
least 10 poundsat the maximumpolespacingthat will be used.
BROWN.MINNEAPOllS TANK
3.10.3 Each direct current or permanent magnetic yoke shall have a lifting power of at
least 40 pounds at the maximum pole spacing that will be used.
