SWITCHES AND RECEPTACLES
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01
DESCRIPTION
A. This Section covers the requirements for switches, plates and receptacles.

C. Wires and cables as included in Section 16120.
D. Boxes as included in Section 16111.
E. Disconnect switches as included in Section 16440.
1.03
QUALITY ASSURANCE
All wiring devices and plates shall conform to the requirements of NEC and shall be specification
grade and UL listed.
1.04
SUBMITTALS
A. The Contractor shall submit shop drawings, in accordance with Section 01300.
Drawing submittals shall clearly show the following:

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01
SWITCHES
A. General.
1. Flush switches shall be heavy duty toggle type “AC” rated unless otherwise shown on the
drawings or specified. Switch mechanisms shall be completely enclosed. Terminal
screws or connectors shall be designed to accommodate and firmly terminate up to No.
10 solid conductors.

2. Switches shall be quiet type, non-mercuric, single pole, double pole, 3-way or as
indicated on the drawings.
3. Where two or more switches or other similar wiring devices are indicated at a single
location and at the same elevation, they shall be installed in ganged boxes with one cover
plate, in an order appropriate to the location of the devices being controlled. Unless
otherwise noted, switches shall be rated for 120 volts.
B. Lighting (Indoor – Dry Areas)
Specification grade industrial type rated 20 amp; Arrow-Hart, Leviton, Hubbel, or equal.
C. Weatherproof Lighting (Outdoor and Moist Areas)
Same as paragraph B above, except mount in FS type box with weatherproof cover and
gasket as manufactured by Crouse-Hinds, Killark, or equal.
D. Lighting with Neon Pilot Light (Indoor – Dry Areas)
Leviton, Hubbel, Arrow-Hart, or equal.
E. Three-way Lighting (Indoor – Dry Areas)
Arrow-Hart 1543, Leviton, Hubbel, or equal.
F. Three-way Lighting (Outdoor and Moist Areas)
Same as paragraph D above, except mount in FS type box with weatherproof cover and
gaskets as manufactured by Crouse Hinds, or Killark, or equal.
G. Special (Hazardous Areas). Killark XS series tumbler switches, or equivalent by CrouseHinds, or other.
2.02
RECEPTACLES
A. General
Receptacles, unless indicated as special purpose or otherwise noted, shall be flush side wired
and designed to accommodate and firmly terminate up to No. 10 solid conductors.
B. Duplex (Indoor-Wet Areas)
Receptacles, installed under this section, shall be installed in bathroom, laboratory, and
process area only. In these areas GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) receptacles shall be
provided. Ground fault interrupter duplex 20A-125V receptacle, Leviton, Arrow-Hart,
Hubbel or equal.

C. Weatherproof Duplex (Outdoor and Moist Areas)
Ground Fault Interrupter duplex receptacles complete with weatherproof cover plates, ArrowHart, Leviton, Hubbel, or equal.
D. Duplex (Indoor – Dry Areas)
20 amp, 125 volt, straight blades, concealed work, Arrow Hart, Leviton, Hubbel, or equal.
E. Single – 240 Volt
Three-pole 4-wire grounding, 20 amp, 250 volt, NEMA 14-20R by Arrow-Hart, Leviton,
Hubbel or equal.
F. Clock Receptacle (Indoor – Dry Areas)
Arrow-Hart, Leviton, Hubbel, or equal.
G. Special (Hazardous Areas)
Killark KR series plugs and receptacle assemblies, an equivalent by Crouse-Hinds, or equal.
H. Plugmold shall be wiremold No. 2000 Plugmold Cat. #20GB3 or equal.
2.03
PLATES
A. General
Provide plates on all boxes. Boxes recessed in walls shall have plates with the required
number of hangs and designed for the material involved.
B. Indoor – Dry Areas
1. Boxes located in, or on, concrete, masonry and tiled walls shall have satin finish stainless
steel plates.
2. Boxes located on, or in, wooden walls covered with gypsum board, paneling or other dry
wall materials shall have aluminum plates, painted with a semi-gloss paint of a color
selected by the engineer.
C. Outdoor and Moist Areas
Cast aluminum, weatherproof, with spring loaded, hinged cover plate.
D. Hazardous Areas
Cast aluminum.

E. Corrosive Atmosphere
Weatherproof, fiberglass with spring loaded, hinged cover coat exposed surfaces with a
material which is chemically resistant to the corrosive agent.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01
INSTALLATION
All switches and receptacles installed shall be installed such that work complies with the National
Electric Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratory requirements.
3.02
MOUNTING HEIGHTS
