General Operation
General Operation
The Finia fixture comes pre-programmed from the factory with a standard
5 point dimming schedule. The fixture has no internal clock so it uses
a calculation to determine the absolute time. The “midnight point” is
calculated using the normal switch on and switch off cycle followed by the
fixture. So the normal method of switching on/off the fixtures (timer, photo
control, or other) should remain in place even when the dimming schedule
option is installed. After installation, the fixture will “observe” the normal
on/off cycle for the first two nights after it is initially powered up. The
pre-programmed dimming schedule will start to operate on the third night
after initial power up.
The “M” occupancy sensor option turns the fixture ON and OFF based on
occupancy and ambient light levels. The light level feature can be used to
keep lights from turning ON and turn them OFF if the ambient light level
is sufficient. The sensors use passive infrared (PIR) sensing technology that
reacts to changes in infrared energy (moving body heat) within the coverage
area. Once the space is vacant and the time delay elapses (adjustable from
30 seconds to 30 minutes), lights will turn OFF. Sensors must directly “see”
motion of an occupant to detect them, so careful consideration must be
given to fixture placement. Avoid installing fixtures where obstructions may
block the sensor’s line of sight.
If the standard factory programming is not adequate for the user’s
specific needs, a customized dimming schedule is easily created with a
downloadable software. This easy-to-use software enables the user to obtain
not only a quick dimming shape configuration, but also a forecast of energy
savings. The standard dimming schedule may be fine-tuned and, by means
of the accessory with a computer USB PC cable, programmed into each
individual unit.
Important: there is an initial warm-up period: It may take up to a minute
before the lights turn ON due to a sensor warm-up period required during
initial power-up. This occurs during installation or after a lengthy power
failure only.
Coverage Pattern
Density and range of the coverage pattern is determined by the
mounting height:

Test and Adjust Light Level Sensor and Time Delay
❶ R emove the lens assembly and adjust the light level and the time delay
to minimum. Put the lens assembly back onto the sensor. Leave the
controlled area and let the sensor time out so lights are OFF.
Light Level Feature
The Light Level feature holds OFF and turns OFF lights when the space is
occupied and adequate ambient light exists. When the light level drops
below the set level it will turn the lights ON when the space is occupied. The
factory setting is for maximum, meaning that even bright ambient light will
not cause the sensor to hold the lights OFF if it detects occupancy in the
controlled area. *
WARNING
DO NOT OVERTURN TRIMPOT WHEN ADJUSTING THE SENSOR.
DO NOT TOUCH THE SQUARE INFRARED DETECTOR UNDER THE LENS
ASSEMBLY.
❷ Enter the controlled area and lights should remain OFF.
❸ Make sure your body does not cast a shadow on the sensor.
Turn the light level trimpot clockwise in small increments. After each
adjustment, put the lens back on the sensor then move about the
controlled area. Wait 5-10 seconds to see if the lights turn ON.
❹ C ontinue this procedure until the lights turn ON. At this setting the
lights will not turn ON with occupancy if the light level is above the
current level.
❺
Sensor Adjustment
The Light Level and Time Delay
adjustment trimpots are located
under the lens assembly. The
trimpots are accessed easily after
the lens is removed from the
fixture. Gently unscrew the lens
assembly. Do not remove the
thumbscrew collar; it holds the
sensor in place on the fixture.
Identify each trimpot. Set the light
level when the controlled light
would normally be turned OFF
due to the presence of sufficient
daylight or other electric light. [If
this feature is not needed, leave
the light level at maximum (fully
clockwise)].
Factory Settings
et the time delay to the desired setting. The time delay can
S
be set from 30 seconds (fully counterclockwise) to 30 minutes
(fully clockwise).
Troubleshooting
Lights will not turn ON:
• LED does not flash:
- Check all wire connections and verify the ground wire is
tightly secured.
Light Level
Maximum
(light level
should not
affect load
operation)
• LED does flash:
- Check all wire connections and verify the load wire is
tightly secured.
Time Delay
15 minutes * At the maximum setting, the light level entering the photo sensor must
exceed 120fc, which only happens in rare applications or when the lens is
removed.
Test Occupancy Sensor
❶ S et Light Level to maximum (fully clockwise, factory setting) and Time
Delay to minimum (fully counterclockwise). Put the lens assembly back
onto the sensor.
❷ Move out of the sensor’s view. Lights turn OFF after 30 seconds.
❸ Move into the controlled area. The red LED in the sensor lens should
- Check light level setting. Cover the sensor lens to simulate darkness in
the room. If the lights come ON, the light level needs to be adjusted.
If set for minimum, more than 10fc of ambient light will cause the lights
to be held OFF. See Sensor Adjustment section for instructions.
Lights will not turn OFF:
The time delay can be set from a minimum of 30 seconds (fully
counter-clockwise) to a maximum of 30 minutes (fully clockwise). Ensure that
the time delay is set to the desired delay and that there is no movement
within the sensor’s view for that time period.
• To quickly test the unit for proper operation, turn the time delay to
minimum and move out of the sensor’s view. Lights should turn OFF after
30 seconds.
• If lights still do not turn OFF, call 888.387.2212 for technical support
illuminate and the fixture should turn ON.
Operation During Power-Up
During the sensor warm-up period, which can last up to a minute after initial
power-up (or after a lengthy power outage), the load can be either ON or
OFF, depending on the status of the relay before the sensor was powered
down. After warm-up, the sensor will open or close the relay to correspond
to the occupancy status of the room.

Wall Mounted Installation Instructions
For Fixtures Supplied with Optional Hi/Lo Motion
Sensor (“H” option)
Description and Operation
The “H” motion sensor option switches the fixture from full light (Hi level) to
dimmed light (Lo level). The fixture HI to LO switching is based on occupancy
and ambient light levels. The light level feature can be used to keep lights
from switching to the HI mode if the ambient light level is sufficient. The
sensors use passive infrared (PIR) sensing technology that reacts to changes
in infrared energy (moving body heat) within the coverage area. Once the
space is vacant and the time delay elapses (adjustable from 30 seconds to 30
minutes), lights will switch to LO setting. Sensors must directly “see” motion
of an occupant to detect them, so careful consideration must be given to
fixture placement. Avoid installing fixtures where obstructions may block the
sensor’s line of sight.
Important: there is an initial warm-up period: It may take up to a minute
before the lights turn ON due to a sensor warm-up period required during
initial power-up. This occurs during installation or after a lengthy power
failure only.
Hi/Lo Level Adjustment
Follow the steps described on the “M” option instructions (page 3) to set up
the “Light Level” and “Time Delay” features of the sensor. When using the
Hi/Lo option, the “Light Level” feature in the motion sensor will only switch
the fixture from Hi to Lo (it will not turn the fixture completely OFF).
Low Light Level Setting (Dimmed Light Level)
Located in the wiring compartment is a potentiometer for adjusting the light
output when no motion is detected. So the wiring compartment needs to
be accessed by opening the
front housing as explained in the
fixture installation instructions.
The potentiometer is pre-set at
the factory for 50% light output.
If a different setting is required,
the light output is adjustable
50%
75%
from 10% light output to 100%
light output. Rotation of the
center shaft clockwise increases
20%
the light output and counter
clockwise decreases the light
10%
output. An internal label (shown
100%
to the right) will assist in setting
the light levels.
REDUCED LIGHT
OUTPUT LEVEL
Note: When the ambient light sensor in the motion sensor is activated,
the fixture does not turn completely off. The ambient light sensor, when
activated, will instead set the fixture to the LO light level setting of the
potentiometer. So an external ON/OFF control (timer, manual switch, etc.)
must be used to turn the fixtures ON and OFF. If dusk to dawn operation is
required in combination with the “H” (Hi/Lo) option, then the fixture must be
ordered with both the “H” and the “PC” option.
After sensor is operating at the desired ambient light and time delay
required proceed to adjust the LO light level setting.
WARNING
DO NOT OVERTURN TRIMPOT WHEN ADJUSTING THE SENSOR.
