SPRING FELLOWSHIP
BY KEN FOX
The lodge executed another
successful Spring Fellowship at Beaumont the weekend of April 11th—13th.
Over 40 Arrowman participated in the Fellowship. The
Lodge witnessed a class of
42 Scouts and Scouters
finish the Ordeal and become members of our beloved Order. An additional
six members obtained their
Brotherhood during the
weekend. In traditional
fashion, the Lodge assisted
the camp in preparing for
Spring and the return of
Summer Camp to the
shores of Lake Klein. The
many service projects included cleaning of the new
Lodge #17 building, mulching at the main gate, and
cleaning of debris around
Broadbent to name a few.
The Ordeal and Brotherhood
ceremonies were performed
inside the Augustus Center
due to typical Ohio weather
in early April.
The evening meal was a
hot dog and hamburger
extravaganza prepared by
the Lodge Culinary Crew.
After dinner, the new Ordeal members and the existing members enjoyed a
fun-filled evening of music
jeopardy , scavenger hunt,
musical chairs, and singing.
The crackle barrel consisting of root beer floats topping off a long, successful
day.

Fellowship in the picture on the left.
PAVILION NEARS COMPLETION
The Lodge #17 pavilion at
Beaumont is nearing completion. During the Spring
Fellowship, Lodge #17
members continued work
on this awesome project.
This new project was a
result of a $4,000 Grant
for National
Order of the Arrow. The
pavilion will be used to
host lodge events as well
as giving space for nonarrowmen to relax and
enjoy the natural beauty
of Lake Klein.

FAMILY PICNIC
By William Makowski
A warm sunny day and great food
greeted those who attended the OA
Family Picnic on June 8th. Members and family were treated to
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Cold
Drinks and a wide assortment of
side dishes prepared especially for
the picnic. Many shared stories
about what their units will be doing
over the summer months along
with comparing notes on past
events. Others joined in on a lively
game of bocce ball or Frisbee. The
picnic was a nice way to kick off
the summer and provided an excellent opportunity for fun and fellowship with lodge members and their
families.

IN THE SPIRIT
OF
SERVICE
BY
WILLIAM MAKOWSKI
The theme for the 2008 Section C-4A Conclave was “In The Spirit of Service”. Five members of Cuyahoga Lodge made
the five hour trip to Camp Arrowhead in Ona, WV to join up with a total of 260 plus Arrowmen from ten lodges. It
turned out to be an excellent weekend with a great program and fantastic camping weather. Friday evening started off
with an opening show at the camp amphitheater. The show included lively music, an exhibition of Native American
dance and drum, several comedy sketches, and an enthusiastic crowd.
Saturday morning we were greeted with the hum and buzz of thousands of Cicadas emerging from their winter sleep.
After a top notch breakfast participants attended training sessions in lodge administration and American Indian Activities.
It was also a great opportunity to meet arrowmen from other lodges. The afternoon was filled with competition and fun.
Competitions included ceremonies, dance, singing, and numerous field games between lodges. For fun you could visit
the pool, climbing tower, shooting sports, trade patches or try your hand at Geocaching and the Iron Arrowman events.
Supper was excellent and followed by a Pow Wow at the dance arbor and a Brotherhood Ceremony. A small group gathered to raise an eighteen foot section totem pole just before dark. The closing show featured more music, an awards presentation, and some very funny skits before a spirited audience. A hearty well done goes out to the section officers and
host lodge, Thal-Coo-Zyo, for putting together such an awesome event.

The key to building a long list of
youth participants and thus building
bench strength for future leadership
is a strong Brotherhood program.
The Lodge had a strong showing at
the Spring Fellowship whereby 11
members took the next step in their
Journey of Cheerful Service. We
must continue to build upon the
strong Spring Fellowship class of
Brotherhood Candidates to ensure a
vibrant and lasting involvement by
younger members. I would like to
encourage all members to bring a
fellow scout or scouter to the next
event to undertake their Brotherhood.
Ordeal members that undertake the
Brotherhood have a greater desire to
continue service in their troops as
well as in the Lodge.
I also ask
our Council Scoutmasters to look
around their troops and identify
those Ordeal members that are
ready to take the next step. Please
encourage them to take their Brotherhood. One suggestion is to take all
your troop members to the next
Lodge Event and utilize the time as
troop and Lodge event.
