Introduction
Joule was formed in 2008 to offer the heating,
plumbing and hardware merchant network a service that was based on product expertise and
knowledge, large stock holding, short delivery
times and a nationwide distribution network. The
strength of this offering can be seen in the quality
and innovation of our product range in renewables, hot water production & storage. From humble
beginnings Joule rapidly grew to become Ireland’s
premier supplier of solar thermal and hot water
storage solutions.
In 2010 Joule opened its fast manufacturing facility in Dublin. This facility had an output capacity
of 24,000 units per annum working on a single
shift per day. Along with the manufacturing, Joule
also opened Irelands most advanced solar thermal
training centre. Joule believe that we must work
with all stakeholders in providing the customer
an outstanding service and investing in training
for installers is just another small example of this
philosophy.
In 2011 Joule opened its first distribution centre in
Cheshire, UK. The UK arm of the Joule Group is
rapidly expanding. With Joule’s innovative product
range and drive for excellence in customer service,
demand is quickly growing through our Cheshire
distribution centre. Joule UK is continuing to offer
customers excellence in product & service and
the result of this will help Joule UK to become one
of the UK’s favourite Solar Thermal & Hot Water
Storage suppliers.
Joule Poland is the Joule Group’s latest development. Demand for high quality stainless steel hot
water storage cylinders is rising across Europe
and particularly in Poland. Joule’s product range
is proving very popular and to meet this demand
the Joule Group has recently opened a distribution
centre in Poland. This demand is a testament to
Joule’s quality in both product and service.

Responding rapidly to changing market expectations we have evolved the Joule Cyclone vented
and unvented stainless steel cylinders. All our
Cylinders are formed from stainless steel, continuing our phylosophy of only using the finest
materials. We are so confident in our construction
that we offer a 25 year limited guarantee* on most

All Cyclone cylinders are butt seam welded, this
gives greater rigidity and removes the threat of
crevice corrosion associated with some cylinders.
Flexible Connections
Joule recognise that sometimes the need for 1” hot
& cold connections with adaptable 3/4” fitting is a
key way forward for the installer.
Key to ensuring the cylinder works and performs
to its optimal ability is the sensor pockets, these
determine how the unit calls for heat from the
external source. The Cyclone has 10mm solar sensor pockets ensuring the probets from the solar
fit correctly and effectively, we also ensured the
aquastat pocket is produce to flair out holding the
stat firmly in place
Coils
With the continued introduction of heat sources
Joule has looked closely at the best possible
option for coils within the Cyclone Range, we use
both conventional rigid plain tube and CSST high
effiency coil to ensure all our units perform to the
highest possible standards, this flexibility ensures
Joule can produce any heat surface area required.

Selecting the correct size of cylinder requires consideration of a nuber of variables, including the
volume of water needed, the energy source and the
space available. Calculating the colume needed
can be achieved by adding together the individual
volumes of each appliance that uses hot water and
how frequently it is used. The energy source is the
next variable to consider, as it will have a direct
impact on the cylinder size.

Triple Coil
Joule Cyclone triple coil cylinders have been
designed specifically with multi fuel applications
in mind. Featuring a purpose designed solar coil,
which allows maximum heat transfer of solar energy
into the stored water and a 28mm (1”) gravity coil
which facilitates the use of gravity fed solid fuel
systems. The cylinders are suitable for use with a
wide range of solar systems now available and are
1” Adaptable Cold Water Inlet
an efficient and environmentally friendly way of
providing domestic hot water. Combine this with
the use of excess heat from your solid fuel system
during winter, this cylinder allows you to optimise
the use of heat during both summer and winter.
Cyclone triple coil cylinders also offer the benefit of
mains pressure hot water - powerful showers and
fast filling baths.

The Joule Copper and Stainless Steel Thermal Stores
are the next generation of heating and hot water production. The Joule thermal store has been designed
with multi fuel heating systems in mind. The cylinder allows an easy installation of solid fuel, solar and
boiler easily and effectively. The thermal store allows
pressurised hot water heated from solid fuel safely
and fully compliant with current plumbing practices

and standards. The tank operates like a hot water cylinder in reverse. The tank is completely full of heating
system water, the domestic hot water flows through a
network of coils up through the centre of the tank supplying you with high flow rate pressurised hot water at
piping hot temperatures. The thermal store is ideally
suited to providing solar heat support and domestic hot
water production simultaneously and easily.

Joule Cyclone Heatpump cylinders have been
designed to work with air source, ground source
and other types of low temperature heat source
appliances. The cylinder is manufactured with coil
in coil technology. Coil in coil technology allows
for greater surface area coils to be installed in
standard sized cylinder units. The inner coil dissipates more heat at lower temperatures improving
the efficiency of the overall system. the cylinders
can be manufactured with any size coil required.

Stainless Steel Buffer Storage
Joule manufactures a large range of stainless buffer
tanks with different coil configurations. The largest capacity stainless steel buffer tank is 3,000L.
Buffer tanks can come complete with numerous
coil configurations from direct to quad coil and all
in-between. The coil types available are pumped
high temperature, heat pump, gravity and solar.

Large Mild Steel Buffer Storage
These hot water tanks must be installed in a frostprotected room by a locally authorised specialist
company.
The vacuum enamelled tanks are suitable for
normal drinking water. An appropriate electrical
separation in accordance with the standards of
engineering must be provided for mixed installations. Any unused coupling sleeves must be
suitably sealed.
Please observe the regulations of the local works
and the relevant standards when connecting. The
connections must be installed pressure-proof.
The component-tested safety devices must be
installed in the cold water supply line according to
local regulations, as can be seen in the illustration.
The component-tested safety valve must have a
connecting diameter of DN 15 (up to 200 l, max.
heating capacity 75kW) or DN 20 (over 200 l, max.
heating capacity 150 kW) and must not be closable
from the hot water tank. An indicating label with the
following inscription must be affixed to the safety
valve or its blow-off line:
For safety reasons, water may exit from the
blow-off line during heating! Do not close!
The operating overpressure specified on the rating plate must not be exceeded; install pressure
reducer, if necessary. A discharging device must
be provided in the cold water when installing the
connection.

Large Mild Steel Buffer Storage
Joule mild steel buffer tanks are suitable for all
hot water central heating systems, regardless of
whether they are powered by solid-fuel or oil-fired
boilers, heat pumps, solar energy systems or continuous flow heaters (gas or electric). Several buffer
tanks can also be combined in a row (see technical
data and accessories), meaning the tank volume
can be adjusted individually depending on the
requirements. Furthermore, the buffer tanks can
also be used for cold water storage in cooling processes (up to 3 bar operating / system pressure) or
heat recovery in industrial facilities.
• Nominal capacity of PSF/PSM/PSR/PSRR =
500 to 5000 litres
• Made from quality St 37-2 steel
• 100 mm ECO SKIN fleece insulation (up to 5,000 l)
• Large-surface pipe array on PSR/PSRR models
• 240 mm flange on PSF models for installing a
finned tube heta exchanger or built-in heater
• Operating pressure = 3 bar, test pressure 4.5 bar
in buffer tank
• Operating pressure max. 10 bar, test pressure 15
bar in pipe array on PSR/PSRR models
• 4 regulating sleeve threads. „Female thread on
PSF/PSM and PSR/PSRR models
• 2 x sensor channels for variable positioning of
sensor models
• Operating temperature = 95°C (110°C in pipe array)
