The McBurney Corporation is an engineering and Construction Company located in
metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, USA. We have been in business since 1911. Our firm
specializes in Biomass fuelled steam and power systems for the Cogeneration, Utility,
Cane Sugar, Forest Products, and other manufacturing Industries. While McBurney is
a full service organization with engineering, project management, construction, maintenance and repair services; McBurney works with its clients and provides those
services which best complement the steam and power needs of that client for a
particular project. In addition to being an Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) firm, we
also perform Engineering Studies, Feasibility Studies and Efficiency Studies. Many of
these studies later result in full scope Engineer, Procure, and Construct contracts for
our clients.
Biomass Fuels Qualifications
Our Qualifications are based on successful experience designing, supplying and installing
unique systems for the combustion of difficult Biomass and Fossil fuels. Many of these fuels

PREVENTION OF BOILER FOULING IS BETTER THAN CORRECTION
Agglomeration coats convective tubes and boiler surfaces causing:
• Increased heat rate (lower efficiency)
• Lowered steam temperature
• Choking off air supplies
• Higher forced outage rate from:
• Cyclone and/or Loop Seal pluggages
• Inability to remove bed material
Fouling occur due to the low boiling point of many components and impurities in the fuels being used many of which contain low boiling point phases
causing "sticky ash".
Up to now many of the solutions have been to clean fouling as it starts accumulating - this cleaning affects the performance of the boiler and it may not
fix the problem.
Aurora is a product that is added to the fuel, once at the boiler this product
preferentially captures harmful alkalis forming compounds with much
higher melting temperatures, which do not condense. These compounds do
not form agglomerates and are easily removed with the ash. Aurora is
typically added at a rate of between 0.5% to 2% of the fuel blend.

The dynamic seal provides for zero leakage of
the pumped product without the need for
costly mechanical seals, packing, and lip
seals or in most cases seal water and the
associated supporting seal water systems.
Product dilution due to seal water is further
eliminated.
With no rubbing seal components to fail over time, the
dynamic seal can operate reliably over the life of the hydraulic
wet end of the pump.
Dynamic seals can offer reliable service in difficult applications that may include; varying amounts of solids, liquids that
are close to saturation prone to crystallizing, scaling liquids
and where operational upsets such as cavitation, dead heading of the pump and even dry running can occur.

ELIMINATE PUMP OUTAGES FOREVER
- Most pump forced outages are related to failure of their seals be that mechanical or rope seals.
- Our pumps do not have any seals - they have a special impeller that creates an air bubble that acts as a seal - this type of seal is
called a hydro-dynamic seal. Our hydro-dynamic seal is backed up by another seal that only operates when the pump is not in
operation - this seal opens up by centrifugal force and therefore it will last the life the pump. Please note that we are the only pump
manufacturer that operates a hydro-dynamic seal with a centrifugal type of secondary seal - this double sealing technique
guarantees the elimination of outages due to sealing failures.
- Our pumps are also 20% to 50% sturdier than any leading pump in the market.
- Our pumps are able to handle solids up to 65% by volume.
- When dealing with slurries or highly abrasive liquids we have ability to remove the impeller from directly contacting the flow, this is
done via a vortex action - this dramatically reduces impeller wear and eliminates the chance of impeller damage thus we avoid
impeller related forced outages.
- Our pumps can handle water as well as harsh chemicals.
- Conventional pump seals need to be cooled, the simplest method of cooling a seal is by either injecting water into the system or by
letting the product leak out. Since our technology does not use any seals we eliminate the injection of liquids into the system or the
leaking out of valuable product. Please note that in certain processes any water that is injected into the system has to be
subsequently evaporated - this is the single most expensive expense of running a pump with conventional seals.

TRACERCO™ Smart Density Gauge
The TRACERCO™ Smart Density Gauge is a non-intrusive, non-wetted field instrument which utilizes advanced
nucleonic measurement technology. The instrument, which is a fully bespoke design, can easily be fitted to new
production vessels or retrofitted onto exiting units.
Principle of Operation
A narrow beam from the radioactive source is directed though the vessel or pipe to a detector mounted opposite. The beam will be attenuated by the vessel walls and the process
medium. As attenuation by the walls is constant any variation in intensity at the detector will
be caused by the process medium. During calibration a density to intensity relationship is
established which allows the signal processor to compute any density from the measured
intensity at the detector.tion vessels or retrofitted onto exiting units.
The detector (PRI 116c-ATX) comprises a scintillator (crystal) and a high voltage photomultiplier tube. Gamma radiation entering the crystal produces minute pulses of light at a
frequency proportional to the intensity of radiation. The light pulses are detected by the
photocathode of the photomultisplier tube and converted to small voltage pulses. These are
amplified within the tube to a size sensible for further amplification by the detectors
electronic circuit.
Pulses of a standard height are then passed via the interconnecting cable to the PRI 160
HART interface. Because of the statistically random nature of this pulse stream, an integrating factor (time constant) is applied. This steadier signal is computed into a figure for
density. Temperature correction may be made before a final density figure is displayed and
transmitted to the plant’s instrumentation.
