Evaluation
Chief application field
Traction aid for forwarders working on slopes with an average gradient of
up to 55% (upwards)*
Construction
Hydrostatic 9-fold capstan winch with an adjustment motor, continuous
speed control and separate rope storage, forced spooling at the storage
drum and rope puling force control; mounted either to forwarder rear
bogie or may be attached to harvester (rear/front); double cable feed
pulley with two equal sized sheaves; open construction for forwarders
(rope storage capacity 418 m), compact unit for harvesters (rope storage
capacity 300 m)
Operation
Control
Radio remote control for controlling the functions pulling, stop,
spooling out, fast gear, throttle as well as motor start and motor off for
setting up the winch; control unit in the machine with a operation
mode selector for automatic mode, road mode and radio control
mode; Adjustable potentiometer for continuous regulation of line pull;
displays showing selected line pull, spooled out cable length, drum
pressure, gradient; optical and acoustic alarms signalling excessive
gradient, cable beginning and cable end
+
Control elements
Gentle manual operation of the winch using radio control; two
spooling speeds in radio control mode; useful menu; labelling of radio
control unit could be improved; continuous control of line pull in
automatic mode; front or rear mounting on harvesters must be
preselected manually
++
Spooling quality
Very good due to forced spooling device and separate rope storage;
Amount of cable on the drum and remaining cable length are
monitored
++
Cable guidance
Complicated mechanically guided forced spooling device; cable
tensioner and cable delivery system; lateral cable pull and negative
pre-tensioning of cable on the drum are negligible despite compact
size of unit; complex cable guidance over several pulleys
++
Line pull generation
Smooth driving and braking in drive mode; continuous control of line
pull; slippage negligible; very constant line pull in each setting,
independent of driving direction (some deviation at higher driving
speeds)
++
Dimensions
Modular construction for forwarders with drive unit (930 mm/1380
mm/490 mm) and rope storage (950
mm/700 mm/730 mm);removable compact unit for harvesters (930
mm/600 mm/1060 mm)
+
(Length/width/height)
Accessibility
Large maintenance apertures in the forwarder unit provide good
access; access to the very compact package for harvesters is
satisfactory
Work safety
Advised by DPLF on aspects of work safety
Economy
2/5
+/o
Purchase price
Complete winch unit for harvesters: € 65000,- (without front mount)
Complete winch for forwarders: approx. € 65000
Maintenance
Central lubrication system for daily lubrication; monthly additional
maintenance effort approx. ¼ hour (cable control)
Special features
Open drive circuit; forced spooling; road mode for driving on access
roads without line pull; harvester winch can be rear or front mounted:
(rear mounting with angle adjustment, front mounting fixed)

Summary:
Very uniform line pull in accordance with settings on traction winch when driving slowly; regular
oscillations at faster driving speeds. Some disparity between line pull during uphill and downhill
travel. No jolting recorded when changing travel direction. About half the downslope force is
balanced by the cable when driving under load, ¾ when driving unloaded; automatic regulation by
electronic control system
Construction differences between forwarder and harvester models
Test
Remaining requirements: presentation of current operator's manual with spare parts list; some proof that
access to harvester model of the traction winch when mounted to the front complies with the relevant
standards.
Recommendations: operator's manual should include information concerning the driving limits on soils with
very high water contents
