the Bio-Bus powered by you! The Bio-Bus runs on gas that is generated from treating human and food waste. To fuel the bus biomethane is produced from GENeco's stateof-the-art plant at Bristol sewage treatment works in Avonmouth. It has the same composition as natural gas and is injected into the national gas grid network and can be used to supply domestic properties or used as vehicle fuel. The Bio-Bus is running as a trial to showcase the possibilities of gaspowered transport and its benefits to the environment. So sit back and enjoy your 'poo-powered' journey. how does it work? • Every year GENeco treats 75 million m3 of sewage waste and 35,000 tonnes of inedible food waste in Bristol. • This waste gets digested for 1218 days by special bacteria, producing methane-rich biogas. • The gas is then cleaned to remove CO2 and impurities, upgraded and checked for quality. • The dome-like tanks on the roof of the vehicle, are then filled with the gas that powers this bus. • The bus can travel around 300km on a tank of gas. The engine itself is similar to that found in a normal diesel bus. some interesting facts about the Bio-Bus... the annual waste from people living near Service 2 could power this bus for 2.5 million miles!+ it produces it emits up to virtually odour free emissions!* 30% less CO2 than a standard diesel bus!* during an average week 46,500 passenger journeys are made on our Service 2! the average number of people on a bus is 32 your annual food & sewage waste could power a whole compared to 1.58 in a car!† return trip on Service 2!+ * Source: Geneco, a Wessex Water company † + Source: www.greenerjourneys.com Based on: Average annual waste per person being able to fuel the bus for 55km (Source: Geneco, a Wessex Water company), average household consisting of 2.3 people (gov.uk figures), 32,674 households within 400m of the route (Source: Royal Mail), route distance of 15.49 miles in, 15.16 miles out. the Bio-Bus is currently available on these journeys... 2 Cribbs Causeway - Stockwood 2 Stockwood - Cribbs Causeway Wednesday to Saturday Wednesday to Saturday via Southmead, Henleaze, Centre, Broadmead, Temple Meads and Knowle Cribbs Causeway, Bus Station 1227 Southmead, Arnside Road 1242 ----- Henleaze, Lake Road 1249 Blackboy Hill via Knowle, Temple Meads, Broadmead, Centre, Henleaze and Southmead Stockwood, The Coots 1444 1750 West Town Lane, Sturminster Rd 1455 1801 1632 Temple Meads, Temple Gate 1509 1815 ----- 1639 Centre, Rupert Street 1520 1826 1258 ----- 1648 Blackboy Hill 1536 ----- Broadmead, The Horsefair 1315 1405 1708 Henleaze, Lake Road 1544 ----- Temple Meads, Temple Gate ----- 1416 1722 Southmead, Arnside Road 1551 ----- West Town Lane, Sturminster Rd ----- 1428 1737 Cribbs Causeway, Bus Station 1606 ----- Stockwood, The Coots ----- brought to you by ----- 1437 1615 1745 Please note the bus may not run on certain days if it is attending a special event.
