FIRE PROTECTION CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES
2. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR MUST CONTACT THE OWNER'S CONSTRUCTION
COORDINATOR AND REQUEST THE SPRINKLER MAIN TO BE ISOLATED AND/OR DRAINED. THIS
PROCEDURE MUST BE ADHERED TO WHEN PRESSURE TESTING AND/OR PLACING SYSTEM IN OR
OUT OF SERVICE.
3. ALL WORK SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA STANDARDS. INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
SHALL COMPLY WITH THE SAFETY RULES OF OSHA AND THE STATE OF FLORIDA FIRE SAFETY
CODE.
6. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A MATERIAL TEST AND CERTIFICATION FORM
TO THE OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL AND THE OWNER'S INSURANCE CARRIER SO AS TO
CERTIFY THAT THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS, SPECIFICATIONS, FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL CODES AND PROCEDURES.
7. UPON COMPLETION OF SYSTEM INSTALLATION, THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL
PERFORM A HYDROSTATIC SYSTEM TEST ON ALL PIPING AND ATTACHED APPURTENANCES IN THE
PRESENCE OF A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE. THE SYSTEM SHALL BE
HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED AT A PRESSURE OF 200 PSI AND SHALL MAINTAIN THAT PRESSURE
WITHOUT LOSS FOR 2 HOURS. LOSS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY A DROP IN GAUGE PRESSURE OR
VISUAL LEAKAGE. THE TEST PRESSURE SHALL BE READ FROM A GAUGE LOCATED AT THE LOW
ELEVATION POINT OF THE SYSTEM OR PORTION BEING TESTED. ALL TESTING THE SYSTEM SHALL
BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13 AND NFPA 25.
8. AS PER THE CONSTRUCTION PHASING OF THE PROJECT, THE EXISTING AREAS OF FIRE PROTECTION
MUST BE MAINTAINED. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR IS TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO THESE
AREAS FROM THE NEW FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE AS REQUIRED.
THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE HVAC DIVISION DRAWINGS AND COORDINATE THE FIRE PROTECTION
WORK WITH LOCATIONS OF CEILING MOUNTED DEVICES SUCH AS DIFFUSERS, GRILLS, REGISTORS, AND ALSO THE LOCATIONS OF
HEAT PRODUCING EQUIPMENT AND DUCTWORK REQUIRING SPRINKLER PROTECTION
BEFORE SUBMITTING A BID, THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND BECOME THOROUGHLY FAMILIAR
WITH ALL EXISTING FIRE PROTECTION CONDITIONS AND THAT OF THE OTHER TRADES (STRUCTURAL, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL,
PLUMBING, SITE, ETC.) THIS CONTRACT INCLUDES ALL MODIFICATIONS OF EXISTING SYSTEMS REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION
OF THE NEW SYSTEM. THIS CONTRACT INCLUDES ALL NECESSARY OFFSETS, TRANSITIONS, AND MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO
INSTALL ALL NEW EQUIPMENT. ALL NEW EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SHALL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL UNDER THIS CONTRACT
BEFORE THE JOB IS CONSIDERED COMPLETE. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY
ASSUMPTIONS, OMISSIONS, OR ERRORS MADE AS A RESULT OF THE CONTRACTOR'S FAILURE TO BECOME FULLY FAMILIAR WITH
THE EXISTING CONDITIONS AND THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS OF ALL TRADES.
THE INSTALLATION OF THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM SHALL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING: LIGHT HAZARD: .10 GPM/SQ. FT. OVER 1,500
SQ. FT. MAXIMUM COVERAGE: 225 SQ. FT. PER SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY REQUIREMENTS WITH OWNER'S
INSURANCE UNDERWRITER.
THE INSTALLATION OF THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM FOR MECHANICAL ROOMS, STORAGE ROOMS, AND OTHER ROOMS AS NOTED ON
THE DRAWINGS SHALL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING: ORDINARY HAZARD, : .20 GPM/SQ. FT. OVER 2,000 SQ. FT.MAXIMUM
COVERAGE: 225 SQ. FT. PER SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY REQUIREMENTS WITH OWNER'S INSURANCE
UNDERWRITER.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SPRINKLER LAYOUT SHOP DRAWINGS, HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS, SIGNED AND STAMPED BY
A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER REGISTERED IN THE STATE OF THE PROJECT. THESE DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS SHALL BE
SUBMITTED AS DESCRIBED IN THE SPECIFICATION. THESE SHOP DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO AND
APPROVED BY THE OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL AND OWNER'S INSURANCE CARRIER PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE COPIES OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL'S AND OWNER'S INSURANCE CARRIER'S APPROVALS WITH
THEIR SHOP
DRAWING SUBMITTAL.

THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE ALL SPRINKLER WORK WITH NEW LIGHTING FIXTURES,
DIFFUSERS, DUCTWORK. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE PROPER SPRINKLER COVERAGE PER NFPA 13.

SPRINKLERS SHALL BE INSTALLED UNDER FIXED OBSTRUCTIONS OVER 4 FT. (1.2M) WIDE PER NFPA 13, SECTION 5-5.5.3.1. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DUCTWORK DIMENSIONS IN THE FIELD AND INSTALL SPRINKLERS AS REQUIRED.

4. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR MUST PROVIDE A FIRE WATCH WHENEVER ANY WELDING IS
DONE WITHIN THE AREA BEING WORKED, DURING THE WELDING OPERATION, AND FOR ONE HOUR
AFTER WELDING IS COMPLETED.
5. NO STOCK OF FURNISHINGS SHALL BE ALLOWED IN THE AREAS BEING WORKED UNTIL THE ENTIRE
SYSTEM IS COMPLETED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVE NOTES AND APPROVED BY THE OFFICE
OF THE FIRE MARSHAL.
THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE ELECTRICAL DIVISION DRAWINGS AND COORDINATE THE FIRE

A. SCOPE FURNISH AND INSTALL AN AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC FIRE PUMP WITH ACCESSORIES AS MANUFACTURED BY PEERLESS . THE FIRE PUMP AND
CONTROLLER SHALL MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA)
PAMPHLET NO. 20 AND SHALL BE UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES (UL) LISTED, FACTORY MUTUAL (FM) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH ALL INTERCONNECTING
PIPING AND FITTINGS AS REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE INSTALLATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL CODE REQUIREMENTS.
THE SYSTEM SHALL BE DESIGNED FOR A FLOW OF 750 GPM AT A SYSTEM PRESSURE OF 160 PSIG. THE SUCTION PRESSURE AT THE PUMP FLANGE
SHALL BE VERIFIED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF FIRE PUMP WITH NEW WATER FLOW TEST TO BE DONE BY THE LOCAL WATER COMPANY.
