AP English (grades 11-12)
AP English Language & Composition (Online)
In AP English Language and Composition, students learn to understand
and analyze complex styles of writing by reading works from a variety
of authors. They explore the richness of language, including syntax,
imitation, word choice and tone. They also learn about their own
composition style and process, starting with exploration, planning and
writing, and continuing through editing, peer review, rewriting, polishing
and applying what they learn to a breadth of academic, personal and
professional contexts. The equivalent of an introductory college-level
survey class, this course prepares students for the AP exam and for
further study in communications, creative writing, journalism, literature
and composition.
Prerequisite:”A” or “B” in English
• College Prep • UC Honors Approved • NCAA Approved
AP English Literature & Composition (Online)
AP English Literature and Composition immerses students in novels,
plays, poems and short stories from various periods. Students read
and write daily, using a variety of multimedia and interactive activities,
interpretive writing assignments and class discussions to assess and
improve their skills and knowledge. The course places special emphasis
on reading comprehension, structural and critical analysis of written
works, literary vocabulary and recognizing and understanding literary
devices. The equivalent of an introductory college-level survey class,
this course prepares students for the AP exam and for further study in
creative writing, communications, journalism, literature and composition.

AP Social Studies (grades 11-12)
AP U.S. History (Online)
AP U.S. History analyzes and explores the economic, political, and
social changes in America since Columbus. Students master historical
knowledge and critical analysis; build reading, writing, and communication
skills; and discover how historical events have contributed to American
culture. In the process, they learn how decisions and events of the past
continue to have profound effects on the world today and how knowledge
of the causes behind past events can influence future decisions. By the
end of the course, students are ready to put their factual knowledge
to work by weighing evidence and interpreting problems presented by
historians. The equivalent of an introductory college-level course, AP
U.S. History prepares students for the AP exam and for further study in
history, political science, economics, sociology, and law.
Prerequisite: “A” or “B’ in Social Studies

AP World History (Online)
AP World History includes study of the world from 600 CE to the present
and includes an introduction unit on the period from 8,000 BCE to 600
CE. The course emphasizes patterns of change and the connections
between the various world cultures throughout the time period studied in
the course. Students gain insight into the global experiences of humanity
and will apply that knowledge to their growth and development as world
citizens. This two-semester course prepares students to take the AP
World History exam. It also provides them with an understanding of why
the world developed the way it did. This course uses a textbook.

economic, cultural, intellectual, political, and diplomatic history of
modern Europe from the fall of Constantinople to the fall of the Berlin
Wall and collapse of the Soviet Union. Students will be able to identify
the characteristics of and analyze the major periods, ideas, movements,
trends, and themes that characterize European history from approximately
1450 to the present. During the course students will hone their ability to
analyze historical evidence and demonstrate their understanding and
analysis in writing. This course prepares students for the Advanced
Placement European History exam.

the U.S. government and the behavior of the electorate and politicians.
Students gain the analytic perspective necessary to critically evaluate
political data, hypotheses, concepts, opinions, and processes. Along the
way, they learn how to gather data about political behavior and develop
their own theoretical analysis of American politics. They also build the
skills they need to examine general propositions about government and
politics and to analyze the specific relationships between political, social,
and economic institutions. The equivalent of an introductory college-level
course, AP U.S. Government and Politics prepares students for the AP
exam and for further study in political science, law, education, business,

AP Microeconomics (Online)–Semester
AP Microeconomics studies the behavior of individuals and businesses
as they exchange goods and services in the marketplace. Students
learn why the same product costs different amounts at different stores,
in different cities, at different times. They also learn to spot patterns
in economic behavior and how to use those patterns to explain buyer
and seller behavior under various conditions. Microeconomics studies
the economic way of thinking, understanding the nature and function
of markets, the role of scarcity and competition, the influence of factors
such as interest rates on business decisions, and the role of government
in promoting a healthy economy. The equivalent of a 100-level college
course, AP Microeconomics prepares students for the AP exam and for
further study in business, history, and political science. (TI-84 Plus, TI-83,

AP Psychology (Online)–Semester
AP Psychology provides an overview of current psychological research
methods and theories. Students will explore the therapies used by
professional counselors and clinical psychologists and examine the
reasons for normal human reactions: how people learn and think, the
process of human development and human aggression, altruism,
intimacy, and self-reflection. They’ll study core psychological concepts
such as the brain and sense functions and learn to gauge human
reactions, gather information, and form meaningful syntheses. Along
the way, students will also investigate relevant concepts like study skills
and information retention. The equivalent of a 100-level college survey

AP Statistics (Online)
AP Statistics data analysis is dependent on the use of technology. It is
strongly recommended that students have access to computers that
include software capable of doing data analysis. Students will be required
to interpret output generated by statistical software programs and/or

AP Chemisty w/Lab (Text)
In this course, you’ll be taking a tour through the fundamentals of
chemistry: reactivity, atoms, molecules and their composition, chemical
properties and much, much more. AP Chemistry is designed to be the
equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the first
college year. For some students, this course enables them to undertake,
in their first year, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their
institution or to register for courses in other fields where general chemistry
is a prerequisite. For other students, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the
laboratory science requirement and frees time for other courses. This
course differs from a regular high school chemistry course in that it uses
a higher level textbook, covers topics in more depth and emphasizes
chemical calculations and the mathematical formulation of principles
requiring more time. Students will be most successful in this course and
on the AP exam if they have taken at least one year of chemistry prior to
this class. Students will have a chance to apply the concepts they learn in
mathematical problems, essay questions and in the laboratory.
Students must purchase Lab Kit separately, at an additional cost, from
LabPaq.com. Order: AP Chemistry—LabPaq: CK-S
This LabPaq includes 20 experiments and is used with full-year college
chemistry courses and honors-level high school courses such as
those offered by Laurel Springs. It includes a lab manual and required
chemicals, equipment and supplies.
