About Vishay Intertechnology
Vishay was founded in 1962 to manufacture and market foil resistors, an invention of physicist Dr. Felix Zandman,
Chairman of the Board and founder. The Company began operations with foil resistors and strain gages as its initial
product offerings. In 1985, having grown from a start-up into the world’s leading manufacturer of these original
products, Vishay began an ongoing series of strategic acquisitions to broaden its product portfolio.

Vishay Products for the Medical Implantables Market
Vishay is a leader in meeting the critical demands of the medical implantable device market. Vishay components
can be found in many cardiac treatment devices including pacemakers used to treat bradycardia (abnormally low
heart rate) and defibrillators used to treat tachyarrhythmia (abnormally fast heart rate), and in devices used to treat
congestive heart failure.
Vishay components, in addition to being used in cardiac treatment devices, are also used in neurostimulators for the
treatment of neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, bone growth stimulators used to speed the body’s
healing process, drug delivery systems used for the treatment of chronic pain and diabetes, devices used to treat
incontinence, and devices used to enhance hearing.
The products outlined in this brochure include magnetics and inductors, multilayer ferrite beads, capacitors, and
resistors. Small case sizes, tight tolerances, and high reliability are just some of the industry-leading benefits they
provide for the medical implantable device market. Vishay is also a leading supplier of custom transformers, which
are used to step up voltages in implantable defibrillators, while the company’s innovative high-reliability custom

Magnetics and Inductors
Vishay offers a wide variety of standard inductors and transformers and is the world leader in custom magnetics,
including telemetry coils and charging transformers for implantable medical devices. Custom surface-mount
telemetry coils enable communication between an implanted device and an external monitor, helpful in many
applications including bone growth stimulators and pain management devices. Custom power and filter inductors
in RF designs, and custom flyback transformers for charging capacitors in defibrillators, are small and reliable.
Cost-effective IFC film magnetics from Vishay have high frequency and Q values for RF applications and feature
small size and weight. In the category of wirewound magnetics, the Vishay portfolio includes many products with
industry-standard sizes, wide value ranges, high energy storage capabilities, and low resistance.
Capacitors
Vishay’s medical-grade MLCC and tantalum capacitors, available in the industry’s smallest sizes, feature
a high density that makes them perfect for implanted defibrillators, pacemakers, and devices for Cardiac
Resynchronization Therapy (CRT), drug infusion, and bladder control. The VJ series of medical-grade MLCCs
feature high-reliability designs offered in several dielectric materials. The medical-grade tantalum 292D and 591D
series offer very low DC leakage in compact packages ideal for battery-supported implantable devices. Medicalgrade tantalum capacitors are available with a variety of CV ratings and package types.
Resistors
Vishay’s resistors play a significant role in implantable medical devices. For high reliability with a verified failure
rate through 100% screen testing, Vishay offers the MIL-PRF-55342 (RCWPM) military-qualified thick film and thin
film chip or variations designed to meet customer size or test requirements. The Power Metal Strip® resistor family
offers the industry’s lowest resistance values (down to 0.0003 ohms) in footprints ranging from 0603 to 5931, for
use in pacemaker energy-sensing applications and devices that manage pain and Parkinson’s symptoms. The
CZA thick film attenuator, used to improve the accuracy and speed of RF input signal circuits like those in drug
infusion devices, replaces three 0402s with a single chip. In thin film resistors, Vishay produces a huge selection
that includes the MC, P, PTN and TNPW series, which have very tight tolerances and low TCs and noise, good for
cochlear implants and seizure control devices, among others. The MM series of thin film MELF and M series of thick
film resistors, with an outstanding capability to withstand pulses combined with excellent long-term stability, are
perfectly suited for defibrillators. The CRCW series of thick film resistors, available in sizes down to the tiny 0201
and including the 0402 Flip Chip, provide excellent stability and reliability. Vishay’s Thin Film Custom High Density
integration products and standard SFM and CTR series are used in pacemaker and cardiac rhythmic
management devices.
