Morley Piper,
World War II
army veteran,
was among the
first-wave of
troops storming
the beaches
of Normandy
on D-Day,
June 6, 1944.
Then 19, Morley led a squad of young American soldiers
throughout the historic battle. Now 92, the long-revered
executive director of New England Newspaper Publishers
Association has for the past 20 years actively “clerked”
Newspaper Association Managers, Inc. (NAM) of North
America.
An authentic example of our “Greatest Generation,” Morley
attended D-Day’s 70th Anniversary commemoration in
France 2014 with President Obama and fellow veterans of
the historic battle. Soon after returning and sharing his
story with his fellow “NAMers,” he has reluctantly been
accepting invitations nationwide to share his powerful
reflections at various press association gatherings.

Association of America (NAA),
representing the interests of
over 2,000 news organizations.
This involves not only lobbying
at the federal level, but also
telling the story - around the
world - about the power and
importance of newspapers to our economy and our
democracy.
He is former executive vice president and chief operating
officer at the United States Chamber of Commerce. He
was president of the Center for Advanced Technology
& Innovation, which was focused on the public policy
challenges faced by the tech sector. He was also founder
and president of the Chamber’s Center for Women in
Business, which was established to increase opportunities
for women at all business levels.
