The Uralla Council was informed in September 1921 by the Good Roads Association that it was proposed to ‘blaze the main road from Adelaide to Brisbane’. From Albury to the border, the road was to become ‘The Blue Trail’. A blue mark was to be affixed to telegraph poles and other prominent landmarks along the route. Council decided to investigate costs involved. Norman Low was proprietor of the Blue Trail Garage in June 1922. Early in February 1929 Norman Low advertised that he had sold his business to Mr. K.F. Fearby. He thanked the public for their support over the past seven years. At the same time, K.F. Fearby advertised that he would retain the Blue Trail garage staff. Gradually it expanded and absorbed a number of other banking institutions in Australia; Colonial Bank of Australasia taken over in 1918; Bank of Queensland in 1922; the Queensland National Bank in 1948 and the Ballarat Company in 1955. In 1981 the Bank emerged with the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney to form the National Australia Bank. The Bank of NSW used this buildling. It opened an agency attached to the Armidale Branch in leased premises on 4 December 1871 although the exact location is unknown. In 1872 it leased premises from John McCrossin in Armidale Street and in 1874 the agency was converted to a full branch. In September 1909 a new banking chamber, designed by architect A. It retains ooiginal cedar windows and doors, and a re-shingled roof. The building continues to be a major contribution in the Uralla commercial precinct. Historical Notes Built 1859-60 as an inn by John Kennedy, but never licensed. John Stoker, a tinsmith, or Provenance: operated his business there from 1905, and then his son, Reg (Reginald Aubrey Stoker 19061978), ran a clothing shop. In 1980, the then new owner sought to demolish part of the structure, but the NSW Heritage Council issued a Preservation Order to prevent this. Within the Uralla community a fierce debate erupted, and went on for years. Given all the "bullets" that were fired and all the hold-ups, the new Bushranger Motel is aptly named! In 1983 a boarded up fireplace in the then derelict building yielded up a "treasure chest" of memorabilia about the Stoker family. "Corporal Cecil Stoker", an exhibition at McCrossin's Mill Museum, tells the moving story. Converted to restaurant in 1990s including removal of internal walls and roof being re-shingled. Completed in March 1905 by Uralla builder J.P. Henry, the timber building measured 46 feet by 24 feet. It included a billiard room 30ft. by 24ft as well as a hairdressing saloon and a fruit shop, each measuring 7 feet by 11 feet.
