The individual LED clusters are optimized for operation at 700mA. Global Tech LED has developed a sophisticated regulator circuit on the PCB Board that provides accurate current control through full operating temperature and environment. Our regulator circuit provides current regulation for each individual string of LED’s using buck mode PWM control with high side current sense. Current accuracy over the LED operating temperature range is +/- 3%. Each string of LED’s has an independent high side current sense circuit, mosfet switch, inductor, freewheeling diode and ripple capacitors. The circuit topology prevents high current switching noises from feeding back to the microcontroller. This feedback is what causes poor current regulation and inconsistent performance in integrated LED Driver IC solutions. Fluctuations in the input supply voltage or the LED forward voltage do not change the LED current as the circuit rapidly senses the change and adjusts the PWM control to meet the specified current. Mechanical Attachment The Solstice LED module is incorporated into existing or new fixtures by using 2 distinct strategies. The first strategy utilizes the patented yoke and the second strategy utilizes a customizable plate. Both the yoke and the customizable plate are attached to the aluminum heat sink mechanically using 4 screws on the back of the heat sink. Active Cooling and Passive Cooling When an LED is inserted into an enclosed fixture the air inside acts as an insulator: By organizing the flow of air inside the fixture the heat from the heat sink can be more efficiently transferred to the outer surface. By keeping the interior temperature of the fixture constant throughout, heat is transferred evenly across the entire surface area. Global Tech LED’s retrofits are designed to transfer the heat from our module to the outer surface of the fixture: HID fixtures are already engineered to disperse the heat of an HID lamp, which can exceed 1000 degrees F. This is why the higher the HID lamp wattage the larger the fixture. Our unique thermal design ensures the prolonged life of our solstice product. www.globaltechled.com 11 Global Tech LED Active Cooling Global Tech LED uses active fan cooling as an integral part of its thermal management system - The Quietest Advanced Technology. Our air bearing fan does not have direct contact during operation so there is no friction no matter how the fan is oriented. This means that the characteristic abrasion noises of worn-out components are not produced. Our fans provide: • Low Noise – No friction and good balance • High Temperature Endurance – No friction and temperature increased between shaft and bearing. • Multi-Orientation – Fan runs along the entire 360 degrees surface; suitable for multiple-orientation with no noise • Good Balance – The fan has a lower center of gravity; runs along the entire 360 degrees surface • Low Power Consumption – One coil winding results in low current • Long Life – No friction, stable operation, prevents dust penetration, increases lubrication circulation 12 Solstice LED Module 5-6-1 Energy Savings Program Dipswitch-Left Above: Our Solstice Board houses two Dip Switches. Left Dip switch: Program Selection - You can currently select 1 of 2 programs, as indicated by the dot allocation on the left side of the Dip Switch. Functionality: The standard position is reached when both switches are pushed to the center of the board. In this position, the unit will operate at full designated output. When both switches are pulled towards the edge of the board the (561) Energy Saving Program is activated. This program selection enables the Solstice unit to operate for the first 5 hours at 100% output, after which time between the sixth and eleventh hours of operation, output automatically dims to 50% and during the last hour prior to sunrise the unit will intensify to perform once again at 100%. www.globaltechled.com 13 Dip-Switch Wattage Setting Dipswitch-Right Right Dip switch: Program Selection - You can currently select 1 of 4 wattage setting, as indicated by the dot allocation on the right side of the Dip Switch. Our guarantee is that each Solstice Module is shipped from the factory with a built in capability for selection of wattage. The GTSOL2754THRO 3 wattage selections (High, Medium, and Low) and GTSOL5498THRO 4 wattage selections (High, Medium High, Medium Low, and Low). When both switches are positioned at the center of the board this indicates that you will be performing at the highest level of output. 14 Solstice LED Module Wireless Sensor Module Global Tech LED has developed a Wireless Module to facilitate Dimming and Instant On/Off Control using either Photocell or Motion Sensor or both. It is engineered with simple mapping software, and utilizes radio protocol for Zigbee, Synapse or others typically found in the industry. When a motion sensor is engaged the Solstice is turned ON to 100% Output for 15 minutes. When no motion is detected after 15 minutes the Solstice can be set to either 20% or 50% Dimming or OFF. The Photocell or Motion Sensor must be installed within 500 feet of the Solstice Product using (20AWG) wiring for 0-10vdc sensor controls. The system is setup at installation by the same electrician that installs our LED product and is automatically optimized to provide high performance for the Solstice LED product. The Module works simply with most of the major manufacturers of 0-10 VDC sensors such as: Lutron, SensorSwitch, WattStopper. Programming the Wireless Module: Our unique selectable dip-switch identifies the task. The 5-dip switch input selector tells the Wireless Module what the control task is going to be. We provide a detailed list of devices with corresponding switch selections. The control selection is a 10-dip switch selector where you code who is following who. Switch 1-5 controls 1 device, and 6-10 controls a second device. In some situations, you may require 2 control devices controlling the same fixture. For example, let’s say you have a motion sensor and you want it to control 2 fixtures. You would first set the input switch to designate a motion sensor and 2 light sources. On the control side you would configure all three devises with the same code (1-5). At this point, the 2 light sources will be controlled by the motion sensor: simple! The controller does not need to be connected to the Internet in order for the system to work. In most cases, once the system is configured, the need to reconfigure the settings is minimal. For those clients that wish to have more control on a daily basis, the system can be set up using the Internet. Additional equipment will be required to operate the system along with yearly maintenance fees. This option will provide the remote monitoring of lights, collection of fixture data, such as temperature, service hours, energy usage, etc. and makes it easy to view or control lighting over the Internet. www.globaltechled.com 15 Wireless Sensor Control Diagram LED Module LED Module 16 Solstice LED Module www.globaltechled.com 17 Motion Sensor Program The Solstice has a motion sensor indicator that when selected can be hard wired to operate as a 0-10v VDC motion sensor. The unit operates at 50% output and when the motion sensor is activated it will ramp up to 100%. Its duration is programmed by the motion sensor. It has 100% Digital PIR Detection and excellent RF Immunity. The systems relay is self contained and does not require a power pack nor does it have minimum load requirements. The true ease of this system is in its adjustable time delays, push button programming and compatibility with electronic and magnetic ballasts, CFLs, LEDs and incandescents. Keep in mind that this unit is impossible to wire in reverse. Diverse in its operation and full of attributes, though adjustments are required, the unit is interchangeable as hot and load wires. It has no field calibration or sensitivity and is non-volatile in its memory settings. Q: I have hooked up the wires from my module and turned on power, but the module does not light. A: Remove power and check all connections on your power supply making sure they are secure. A: If all your connections are correct, then you most likely have the polarity of the wires reversed, the unit has gone into polarity protection mode. Correct the wire polarity and the unit will operate properly. Q: My newly installed module has been working, but it stops working after a little while. I removed power and turned it on again, but had the same result. A: If your module operates correctly for a period of time and then shuts off, this is an indication that the unit is getting too hot and going into thermal protection mode. Check your thermal system and the ambient temperatures to ensure operation within limits.
