RF121/GRF121 - High Frequency Electro-Mechanical Relays (DC-12GHz & DC-16GHz) TELEDYNE RELAYS – April, 2016. Cumbernauld, Scotland. Introduction Teledyne Relays are delighted to show our brand new, Ultraminiature, Hermetically Sealed, High Frequency, Electro-Mechanical Relay, the RF121 (DC-12GHZ) & GRF121 (DC-16GHz). Specification Both of these models come in 1 Form C (SPDT Form). They also come with two control voltage options; 5Vdc and 12Vdc. The Coil Operating Power drawn from these voltages are as follows: RF121-5/GRF121-5: 410mW RF121-12/GRF121-12: 290mW They both also have a fantastic switching time of 7ms; 2ms operation time and 5ms bounce time) resulting in a fantastically fast EMR switching function. Both have an operating temperature of -55oC to +85oC but can be stored as high as +125oC. These relays have been designed to provide a practical standard and surface mount switching solution with RF Performance and repeatability up to 12GHz & 16GHz, respectfully. The RF121/GRF121 improves on Teledyne Relays’ heritage of miniature RF relays by incorporating a precision transmission line structure in the internal construction of the contact system. RF121 Both of these relays feature: High Repeatability Wide Bandwidth Performance Higher Isolation Between Each control and Signal Paths High Resistance to Electrostatic Discharge The GRF121 relays feature a unique ground shield to facilitate surface mounting and to extend the frequency range when compared to through-hole solutions. www.teledynerelays.com Schematic Diagrams, Outline Drawings and Solder Stencil As can be seen on our datasheets, the electrical schematic diagrams can be used to analyse how the relay operates and the diagram gives detailed information in regards to how this happens and how to connect the relay. It can be seen from the above diagram that the pin options are very clear, the coil connections and the earthing points of the relay. Cumbernauld, Scotland. Below are two of the outline drawings of the GRF121 with the inclusion of measurements in both inches and millimetres. Relay Performance Below is the Insertion Loss curve for the GRF121 where it can be seen that these values are still very good in the higher frequency range, especially at the 16GHz region. Eye Diagrams Eye Diagrams are vital for the Digital Design Engineer as they allow the designer to evaluate the system; frequency, Bit-Rate, Signal to Noise Ratio, Jitter, etc. On the GRF121 datasheet, we include the Eye Diagrams at three different Bit Rates, 16Gbps, 28Gbps and 40Gbps, against a reference eye diagram. Below is a detailed Recommended Solder Stencil for the Surface Mountable GRF121, also supplied on the datasheet. Below is the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) graph and, again, it can be seen that this relay still performs excellently in the higher frequency band. www.teledynerelays.com Specifications are subject to change without notice © 2016 Teledyne Relays RF121/GRF121 - High Frequency Electro-Mechanical Relays (DC-12GHz & DC-16GHz) TELEDYNE RELAYS – April, 2016. Cumbernauld, Scotland. Other Information Due to the excellent high frequency handling capabilities of this switch, design engineers looking to design systems which previously used coaxial switches can now look to minimise these designs with the use of the RF121 and the GRF121. This mean smaller systems with the same, if not better, performance. The RF121 series will be offered with gold plated leads (/G option), solder dipped leads (/Q option, Sn60/Pb40) and RoHS compliant (/R option, Sn99.3/Cu0.7). Applications Information These relays are designed for use in the following technologies RF Attenuators RF Switch Matrices High Frequency Spread Spectrum Radios ATE Any system where dependable high frequency signal fidelity and performance up to 16GHz, 40Gbps is desired. Datasheets The datasheets for both of these relays, as well as the datasheets for all of our Electro-Mechanical Relays, can be found here at http://www.teledynerelays.com/electrorelays.asp Need More Information?
