JUNIOR LOFT BED
Size:
36” x 80” (Mattress Size)
38” x 86” (Outside)
Unit Description
Each bed consists of 2 wood ends constructed of solid
hardwood and 1 steel spring sleep surface. The sleep
surface is adjustable to 11 different settings without
tools or hardware.
Wood Ends
Each solid hardwood wood end consists of two 2-1/2” square posts and three 4-3/4” spreaders. The
square posts and spreaders are constructed of solid hardwood. The cross spreaders are full
mortise/tenon jointed into the square posts. Dowel joints are not acceptable. Each bed end is 36” high
and allows for 11 height settings. Only northern or southern hardwood is acceptable. All wood must be
grown in the United States and manufacturing to take place in the United States.
Height settings are accomplished by embedding steel rods into a steel channel. The steel channel is then
set inside a rout in the post and through-bolted in place at the top and bottom.
Spring Construction
Side rails are 2” x 1-1/2” x 0.109” rail steel angle with 2” flange vertical and to the outside. End angles are
1.25” x 1.25” x 0.109” rail steel. Lock plates made from 11-ga. steel are securely riveted to side rails. Each
lock plate has two hook slots that snugly fit pins in bed post. All four (4) corners are braced by 1” x 11 ga.
steel braces riveted to side and end angles. Two (2) cross members made from 1” round 16 ga. tubing are
riveted to side rails. Each sleeping surface consists of a minimum of 16 strands of 9 ga. “Z” hook type
action arc springs connected to each other by four (4) rows of 13ga. high carbon wire links and connected
to each end angle with five (5) PCs. 12 ga. tight wound helicals.
Paint Finish
All parts are thoroughly cleaned, phosphatized and painted with high quality baking powder paint.
Finish Process
All exterior wood surfaces and end grains must be sanded and finished in the following manner:
1. Raw product is inspected for defects
2. Wood is sprayed with a coating of stain
3. Stain is allowed to air dry for 10 minutes
4. A layer of low HAPS vinyl sealer (3-4 mils) is applied and allowed to air dry
5. Product is sealer sanded with 220-280 grit sandpaper
6. A wet coat (4 mils) of Sherwin Williams waterbase UV 35% solids is applied to each side
7. Product enters an Ultra Violet curing chamber where it is cured with 900-1000 milijules of
radiant energy
8. Finish contains no VOC or formaldehyde
Stain Color
Wood stains are available in a variety of colors. An upcharge may apply depending on the stain selected.

being water proof, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and have a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than
350 but greater than 150 grams per meter squared over a 24 hour period. PVC coatings are
unacceptable. The mattress ticking meets the flammability requirements of NFPA 701 (small scale) and
Cal. 117. The mattress will be manufactured with the nylon side of the ticking facing outwards for student
comfort.
Flanging & Border: The cover and padding materials are secured by sewing the high tensile flanging
material to the perimeter of the cover and by hog-rings through the flange to the perimeter coils. The
borders are a one piece prebuilt style providing a uniformity and consistency.
Flammability: This finished mattress passed the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the
