Please join us for a panel discussion on the Saldanha Bay IDZ to discuss the objectives,
mechanisms, drivers, processes, and likely outcomes associated with this very important
Western Cape initiative.
Panellists
Herman Jonker
works at the Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic
Development and Tourism, where he started in 2001 after a brief stint in and investment bank
in London.
His involvement in the Upstream Oil & Gas industry started in October that year when he
became responsible for the interface between Government and the industry. His early work
centred around Clustering methodology to enhance the competitiveness of the sector, locally.
He was responsible for the formation of what is now the South African Oil and Gas Alliance
(SAOGA) in 2003 and was closely involved in industry strategy, lobbying and policy
formulation for marine related engineering sectors till 2010 (except for an 18 month stint in
Latin America).
For the past two years he has been in an economic infrastructure unit called Cape Catalyst,
where he has been involved in project development work – specifically looking at port related
industrial and logistics developments. He is part of the team working on the establishment of
the Saldanha Bay IDZ.
Kaashifah Beukes
is an Associate at Element Consulting Engineers with 9 years of
experience in civil engineering. She is the Senior Manager responsible for Stakeholder
Relations at the Saldanha Bay IDZ Licencing Company (LiCO), having previously been a
Project Manager on the SBIDZ Feasibility Study team. As a Project Manager, Kaashifah
helped scope, plan and co-ordinate the various tasks required for the Feasibility Study,
ensuring the integrity of the research both internally and externally, and the coherence of the
study with other projects and initiatives undertaken by various public and private entities in
the greater Saldanha Bay region.
Barry Standish



has three professional roles:

As an alumna of the UCT Graduate School of Business, Adri Grobler is passionate about
growth, innovation and leadership; and in particular about the opportunities for innovative
business models and strategic partnerships in driving industrial and socio-economic growth in
South Africa.
Adri now heads up the Public Sector Growth Solutions Group in Frost & Sullivan’s Africa
office in Cape Town. She was involved in the Saldanha Bay IDZ feasibility study in 2011 and
again in 2012, first as the Frost lead analyst and later Frost project manager, working with a
consortium of firms supporting the business case development of the IDZ. Adri believes the
Saldanha Bay IDZ is one of the Top 10 investment opportunities in South Africa for 2013.
