goals of Zentangle® are to increase focus, relaxation,
meditation and encourage deliberate mark making
and invention. We will work in a small format and will
discuss how Zentangle® can be applied to different

A total body workout on a mat that develops core
strength, muscle flexibility and muscle balance.
Pilates is appropriate for most people with varying
levels of fitness. Strength, stabilization, flexibility,
range of motion, body alignment & balance are goals
of this class. Various exercise tools (bands, balls, etc.)
will be introduced as the class progresses. Class takes
place in a “lowered light” studio room with soft music
playing to assist with your concentration. Modifications will be taught and the workout intensity can be
easily adjusted to accommodate all levels of fitness.

This 60-hour course is designed for students who
want to achieve their high school credential and need
a review of the GED test subjects (writing, social
studies, science, literature, math and essay writing),
as well as assistance in test–taking strategies. All
students will be assessed in reading comprehension,
math and writing at the first class meeting, which is
required. Course enrollment is limited to provide immediate and individualized attention to students. This
is an accelerated one-semester program. Individuals
who are missing more than two years of formal high
school and need longer-term remediation are advised
to contact the dean of Community Services at 5522324. Individuals 17 years of age or younger must
provide official high school documentation indicating
at registration that they are no longer enrolled in

licensed salesperson, actively associated with a real
estate broker for at least three years, must complete
40 hours of classroom training and pass the state
examination. All individuals taking the broker’s
course must file a $5,000 bond with the MA Board of
Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons
prior to issuance of license. A five-year bond costs
$50.00. Course follows Massachusetts curriculum.

An engaging combination of discussion, demonstration and actual fencing to teach the modern game
of Olympic style fencing and its history and to dispel
some of the persistent myths about the sport.
The course will cover fencing safety, fundamental
techniques and tactics and competition. Students
will be grouped within the class with others of similar
age, skill and size as appropriate. Instructor Taro
Yamashita is the head coach at the Riverside Fencing
Club in Hadley. A former nationally and internationally ranked fencer, Taro’s students range in age from
10 to 70+, from beginners to national champions.
Taro is a U.S. Fencing certified coach.

The outdoor experience of a lifetime! Youth will
experience many of the natural wonders of our
environment found right here in the lower Pioneer
Valley area. We will visit, explore and learn about:
babbling brooks abundant in mysterious forms of
aquatic life, investigate the ephemeral world of the
vernal pools, observe the wonders of continental
drift and glaciation responsible for our Connecticut
Valley landscape. We’ll also visit museums such as:
the Great Falls Discovery Center in Turners Fall, MA.,
and he Museum of Natural History on the campus
of Amherst College. Students will have the opportunity to touch dinosaur footprints created millions of
years ago here in Holyoke. Join us for this five–day

An incredible opportunity to explore a wide variety of
art media, including water color paint, acrylic, handmade paper, print making, tie-dyeing, sculpting and

surroundings by learning observational drawing in

from different countries, such as Australian Aboriginal dot painting, Egyptian hieroglyphs or Polish paper
cutting, Indian miniature painting, African masks,

about the varying motifs, colors and techniques used
by these cultures and discover some striking similarities too! This will be a hands-on class with demonstrations to get you started but emphasis will be on
finding a personal voice using the methods taught.

A very active, hands-on program that will challenge
your son/daughter to learn more about their environment, the outdoors and themselves – while being safe
and having fun. The skills they’ll learn will promote:
leadership, personal growth, confidence, self-esteem,
teamwork and much more. we’ll cover: basic first
aid, proper gear, ten essentials, introduction to rock
climbing, map and compass-route finding, how to
build a fire, leave no trace-LNT, primitive shelter
building, tree & plant identification and more.
Participants must bring: appropriate dress for weather, daypack to carry small tarp/plastic sheet (8’x 8’
or a little larger), large plastic trash bag and 100’ thin
polypropelene rope, (clothes line), two liters of water,
non-perishable lunch and snack. Tim and Eric Vogel
of Tekoa Mountain Outdoors are certified and insured
outdoor adventure education leaders with 40 years
of combined experience.

We’ll emphasize creativity and present techniques for capturing exciting images through the use of lighting, angles and composition that bring the world
into focus. Students will work on fun projects, from turning snapshots into
puzzles, crafting unique compact disc covers and photo magnets along with
digital scrapbooks. You’ll also learn how to apply basic Adobe®Photoshop®

At an early age, most children show interest in art. This is a terrific opportunity to encourage youth to pursue their interests in a fashion that can provide career opportunities in the future through the power of Photoshop CS6!
They’ll learn tools and basic image manipulation techniques, including image

painting tools. Participants will be designing a logo or a cartoon character

Enter the exciting world of horses this summer on a working horse farm
while learning how to ride and care for these intriguing animals! A fun,
engaging experience geared toward the beginner learner with emphasis on
anatomy and care of the horse along with structured daily riding sessions to
promote communication, teamwork skills, empathy and trust. Wear jeans and
closed toe shoes/boots. Limited number of ASTM helmets available. Youth
should bring a bag lunch, snacks and a water bottle daily. Course meets at
Full of Grace Farm, 105 Stockbridge Road in Hadley. (Early dropoff or late
pickup by prior arrangement only and is subject to a fee) Joanne Huff, ASN,
ES, is a lifelong horsewoman and MA licensed riding instructor.

NON-CREDIT COURSE REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Many courses fill fast. We suggest you register at least two weeks before
class start date, or by registration deadline if noted. If space is still available in a class, HCC can accept registration for most classes up to the
business day before a class starts.
To register for non-credit courses complete the non-credit enrollment form on
back page. Then, use the Walk-in, Mail-in, Fax-in, or Phone-in options listed below.
Non-credit courses must be paid in full upon registration.

Course Cancellation
Low enrollments can necessitate course cancellations. HCC will attempt to notify
students whose class has been cancelled and help them choose another course
or obtain a refund. Completing your course registrations as early as possible
helps the college avoid cancelling classes.
If the college cancels a course, 100% of all course costs are refunded.

children up to age 25 are eligible for tuition remission of 50% of tuition only for

Refund Policy for Non-credit Courses
Non-credit courses (with six or more meetings)
Withdrawl at least 5 days before the first class meeting, 100% of all fees, less
$30. Less than 5 days before the first class meeting but before the third class
meeting 50% of the course cost. No refund will be granted after the start of
the third class meeting.
Non-credit courses (with five or fewer meetings)
Refunds are available only if the student withdraws by the Friday before the
first class meeting, less 25% of course cost, but not to exceed $25.
